Dinosaur jr. has signed with Fat Possum for the May 1 release of their reunion album, Beyond. Recorded in bandleader J. Mascis' home studio in Amherst, Mass, this will be the band's first album with the original lineup of Mascis (guitar/vocals), Lou Barlow (bass) and Patrick Murphy (drums) since 1989. half of Dinosaur Jr.'s reunion tour will be released soon. Barlow recently committed to a spring reunion tour with his post Dinosaur Jr.-band, Sebadoh, but there will be additional Dinosaur Jr. live shows later this year. Could we possiblely could see a Roo preformance this year?

i saw them a motnh or so back, in north hampton MA (right outside of amherst) and it was one of the best shows i've seen in a logn while. would love to see them at roo
Where did you see them in Northampton? I'm going to see Umphreys there in April. Calvin theater is where the show is. Just curious if it's the same venue.
Hate to admit, but while I've heard of these guys, I don't think I've ever knowingly heard a song of theirs. What do they sound like? Anybody having a start place, a song or an album?

Try this link. Pick a song that says listen and a jukebox player with their songs will pop up. They are full lengeth versions that are streamed:
Much of their stuff was recently reissued I believe, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find. Also, they maintain a cult following and saw a bit of fame during their prime, so it's not too off the wall or anything.
That site didn't work for me, so I resorted to Youtube and listened to them playing a song called "Forget the Swan" which I'm thinking is a new song 'cuz it's on IFC and they look old and a little fat. The drummer and guitarist are both pretty darn good, they jammed for a while and the guitarist showed off a nice box of tricks. I don't know about the bass playing, but I liked the way he sang. From what I could tell they seem to put a focus on songwriting (vocally it was tight and like a real song not just an excuse to jam) but also opening songs up to jam and a big focus on guitars. Overall I liked it and for a live performance it was really good. I can see how you say they would be good for Bonnaroo, I think there're elements for hippies and hipsters.
Dinosaur Jr. is the epitomy of slacker grunge. I mean, when I think of grunge, I don't think Nirvana or Soundgarden. I think more along the lines of Dinosaur Jr. or the Lemonheads or Pavement...you know, dirty rock that sounds like it has its shoes untied and is either really bored or really depressed or both or maybe just on heroin...

Speaking of Pavement, there's been alot of talk about them reuniting, maybe not anytime soon but eventually. If they were to reunite I think that they would be the type to play Bonnaroo, especially since last year's Sonic Youth set was the first time Stephen Malkmus and Mark Ibold have played together since the breakup.
I guess what I'm trying to say is PLEASE SUPERFLY, TRY AND GET PAVEMENT BACK TOGETHER!

I'd be so happy if they played Bonnaroo. I can't even believe Im getting another Dinosaur Jr record before I die. One of the coolest parts of Bonnaroo for me last year was catching Sonic Youths set. Brought me way back.
On a side note. Anybody think about The Pixies playing this year? I know they went back and forth and finally decided to write and record some new material this year. Last I heard, they should be doing so currently. They hit alot of festivals on their reunion tour, but didnt hit Bonnaroo. Would be nice to catch them there in an earlier slot on the Main stage.

I just saw D.J. here in Tampa! They rocked it!! Mostly older material plus some off their new album.
My husband & son were at that concert. Did you get sick too? They weren't expecting to be outside. My son got the flu & had to miss 4 days of school last week. They had a great time though! ;D
So, this new album doesn't come out until May, but it leaked on to oink a few days ago, and man, they haven't missed a step. Album slays. Bring them to Roo. Sidenote, it has been removed from oink because the band sent a message to the admins of oink and asked them to remove it.

Like anything else on the net it spread. Great album. They can be my blast from the past moment at Roo this year. Sonic Youth did it for me last year.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no memory of their show. I think I over-did it a little. ???
It would be Bonnaroo with out insane amounts of excess. I think the fact that I was so fried had to do with how oddly reminiscant I got during the set. I dunno, just hearing Thurstons tone brought me way back. Kind of like smelling something that causes you to vaguely remember something from your childhood.
