I'm a lurker on this board, but I saw something that looked cool, so her comes my first ever thread.
Tool are touring in 2007. They have put up some dates in March, and more are to come. I have heard tons of buzz about Tool at Roo, and now that we can be fairly certain Pearl Jam is not playing, Tool is a very possible headliner.

Not a big Tool fan, but i might check 'em out. I know that they're a good band, but i've had some bad experiences with some of their fans in the past. This may be just the thing that I need to re-associate them with something positive.
I hope they don't headline, but i would love to see them there
Yeah I'm in this boat too - I'd love to see them, but they're different enough from what we're used to seeing at 'roo that I think it's better if people have other options while they play.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

Last year the Cafes had other bands during the headliners I believe...At least I know Troo Music Lounge had Tishamingo during Radiohead because I briefly considered skipping some of RH to catch their set....Friggin thrilled I didn;t though

Great news....
"As Tool's next North American tour begins on March 15 in Las Vegas, the band reportedly intends to record some of the dates for a live CD and DVD. Bassist Justin Chancellor recently told Launch Radio Networks that the stage production will be "more intense" than the band's last trip, with computer animation and props possibly being included. Tool also has added two more stops to the trek on March 29 in Oklahoma City and March 30 in Southaven, MS."

I am really hoping Tool is at Bonnaroo. They are one of the top bands on my list of must see. I am not usually into the whole metal thing but Tool is the exception.
What would you guys think about them playing Sunday night? Usually that spot is a jamband, but since they'd probably divide the Roo fans like no other band, maybe that would be a good chance for people to take off early if they didn't want to see them. I'd definitely stick around.

I'd be happy to see them in any spot, but yeah the Sunday night would probably be a good time for them. Tool at Roo will make my day more than anything else.

Yeah Tool playing sunday night is a great idea. Some people just hate the thought of Tool playing at Bonnaroo but i remember reading on here last year that some people were hating on Radiohead and that turned out to be epic.

Absolutely. So many people have a pre-conceived notion of Tool and have never actually heard their music.
Well, two years ago Tool would have been inconcievable. The idea of going from Dave and double Panic to Tool is crazy, but with Radiohead moving the fest forward I wouldn't say they're out at all. Their music IS heavy, that shouldn't be debated, but there is a lot of good in heavy music. (Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Led Zep, even PF at times) The idea of Tool playing the same festival as reggae/pop the Police still sounds really strange, but it would be a ballsy and respectable move. If they throw in Waters too, I don't think anybody could really complain about the festival not catering to them. Just keep the jam bands (SCI, MMJ, UM) with the Police/Tool/Waters and everyone should be happy.

Tool's music and popularity are a little too much for them to be playing a side stage, I think. Sunday night on the What Stage would be the bees knees. I would look forward to that all weekend.
It would also bring together an even wider range of music fans, which is always a great thing and the entire purpose for 'Roo, imo.
There would be A LOT of people leaving Bonnaroo with a new favorite band that they never bothered to give a chance if Tool ends up playing... I'll tell you that... I was in that same boat until I finally gave them a good listen. Now, I'm a hardcore fan.

I think i wouldnt be able to go to that bonnaroo..... because i wouldnt be able to handle the awesomeness. ;D
I thought the same thing man, the only reasonable change I would've made would have been to replace Pearl Jam with Tool. Tool would still kill it though, and their touring is definitely less frequent than PJ. The great thing is that the headliners haven't really been a huge attraction for me at ACL (1 full set out of 6) so they're just a bonus at Roo. If Waters were to play DSOTM, then it would REALLY be a bonus.

I already have the dates cleared, didnt have money for earlybird though. Even if there werent any headliners at all, im positive bonnaroo would still be worth 200$. I think tool on sunday is a very good idea though.
Yep, I definitely agree it would be a good time to see them.
However, I think if the gods smiled on me and they did that, they'd need to do something to help people chill out a bit. Tool is great music, and I think they'd bring down the fest well, but their music is very heavy and I'd like to chill just that little bit at the end. My vote is to have some guy with a guitar singing sappy Coldplay songs from the main stage after I leave. If nothing else, it would help clear out the grounds better.
Personally I think Tool on sunday is a terrible idea. I personally like them, but alot don't, and Sunday's headliner at Bonnaroo should be a set most people there could get into since it is the last show of the weekend. I would like to see Tool there, but I think Friday or Saturday would be better. Phil and Friends is pretty well liked by most at Roo, Panic is about the same (not my fav), as were the Dead and Trey. The closer should be someone most can agree on since it is the last show everyone sees at Bonnaroo.

The groundwork for heavy music was laid in '04 when Praxis performed. Tool is pretty heavy, but honestly they can't compare to the mayhem caused by Laswell, Buckethead, Bernie, and Brain.
To this day, that is still by far the greatest performance I've ever seen.
Inforoo evidently didn't have a "like" button in 2007. Or people just weren't happy that Tool might be at Roo. I've only been on this board for three or four years but didn't Inforoo briefly have a "dislike" button? Must have killed the vibes.
