This was my "WTF?" band for the lineup. Honestly they were the biggest surprise for me out of anyone on that list -- just out of the blue I guess. Anyway, they could put on a fun show I guess. Not a priority for me, but I may check them out
Yeah. For me, it's not so much about Franz Ferdinand being a bad band as much as it being a piss poor selection from the genre they sort of inhabit. The Rapture put on a better show. LCD Soundsystem put on a better show. It's nothing against Franz. Just sort of disappointed that Roo got it wrong and Coachella got it so right in that area.
I saw them at ACL in 2005 and they were OK at first, then got pretty boring. They only really picked up on "Take Me Out." I liked their first CD, but the second one got old quick. I'll be using their set to be elsewhere or rest.

While I'd rather have LCD Soundsystem I think Franz is much better than The Rapture and i'll definitely be checking out their set. And don't forget about Hot Chip in that genre. They're gonna rock...

My brother's a huge Franz fan, so he'll be pleased. I like their songs more than The Rapture, but I've never seen their show. Either way, I'll be curious to check that out. I imagine they'll bust out some new songs too.
i loved their first cd, looks like they'll headline Which Stage one night.
Not necessarily. Their popularity's waned a bit, and given their lack of discography and the abundance of solid veteran second tier acts, I see them more inhabiting a midday Which Stage slot a la Ben Folds or Death Cab last year...
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

Death Cab headlined the Which Stage
My bad...mixed them up with Bright Eyes...never the less, I don't see Franz as a headliner in any sense. Especially given their low billing.
yeah, you're right.
plus there will be more probably acts on the official lineup above them.
again, i loved their first cd, but lost so much interest, i didn't even buy the second. Who knows, i might end up seeing them, but if they were competing with the likes of Ralph Stanley. Hell no.
^^^Their second cd isn't bad at all. Sort of different though. Some good tunes, but not quite as catchy. Definitely feels more traditionally british than the first.
I just kind of view them as the mirror opposite in some ways of a band like The Rapture, who can't quite get it right in studio but kick absolute ass live. Whereas, Franz Ferdinand seem to toss of catchy soundy hooks like it's nobody's business, they aren't exactly a great live band. High energy, yes. Stadium rocking, not quite yet.

Franz Ferdinand will perform at this summer's Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee in mid-June. But according to the band's website, that will be their only concert this summer.
Lead singer Alex Kapranos says the band are currently located at a "wee place in Glasgow where we're doing some new songs." There's no timeline as to when the album will come out, but it's likely to be out in late 2007 or early 2008.
"We don't really want to play any British festivals until we've written a bunch of new songs for people to hear," Kapranos says. "I don't really see the point of keeping on going out and playing the same old stuff again and again. You wanna come back with something exciting."
In terms of the songs themselves, Kapranos says the group are heading in a slightly different direction.
"It's a wee bit different from last stuff, but still very danceable, that's the main thing," he says. "It's always pop. Franz Ferdinand has always been pop."
Franz Ferdinand put out their last album You Could Have It So Much Better in 2005 and spent part of 2006 touring behind it, including a North American tour with Death Cab For Cutie.
More recently, Kapranos spent some time in Vancouver producing British band The Cribs' new album. The musician, who attended the Mint Records Christmas party in Vancouver last year, also released a new book entitled, Sound Bites: A World Of Eating With Franz Ferdinand, through Penguin Books in January. The culinary book is a collection of his newspaper columns he penned while touring.
i paid 14 bucks to see them and the Killers at a show a while ago before they were big and thats the most i would ever pay to see them, their show lacked intensity so much it was intense
