That there could be a possibility of 4 headliners this year? Given the fact that they have been promoting the festival as a 4 day event it makes sense to me. Also, in the initial release from one of the articles it states that there will be over 100 bands this year. Personally, I don't see this being logisticaly possible with only 3 days.
Anyone have any take on this? Also, out of the intial lineup is there an artist that stands out as a possiblity for a Thursday night headliner? If not maybe an addition? Suggestions?

After last year's schedule, it seems pretty obvious that they are beginning to lengthen the festival, making thursday an "official" full day of music. As far as a thurs headliner, i'm still hoping for The Mars Volta. I know that they coudn't headline on the other nights but, after the enormous crowd they drew in '04 (way too big for the tent they were in), I think it would work nicely. Regardless, it is clear that the Roo beast is growing.
I was thinking White Stripes could do a Thursday Night headline. That would be sweet. But if there's a headliner, does that mean a full fledged late-night The idea intrigues me.
With a full day of Thursday acts, they're asking for a four day weekend from most and a five to six day weekend from many. So no, I really don't see them turning this into a full four day festival, as the name would imply.

I was really wondering about this. I've already made the decision to stay away from the strange eyed folks on shakedown until Friday night.
I also have 1 big question if someone would be so kind. Ive never gotten there before they start letting people in, and I plan on doing so this year. Do they start letting people in early if traffic gets really bad or do they have a strict time? I heard some folks saying last year that they got in much earlier than the time the site stated.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!

Yes more important than three headliners, would be three late nights.
Personally I don't think they will have a headliner of any kind on Thursday. Maybe a bigger band would play, but not a headliner. That being said, I would be ok with something along the lines of Spearhead or Wolfmother size playing on Thursday night.
well i appreciate the optimism. but i think it will be the same thursday night format as last year. its a work night for the locals. so id bet the music stops around midnight as usual. and i think it will be similar to last year with a few smaller bands to choose from but no headliner or mini headliner. hopefully im wrong though.

what if WSP is playing thurs, and they hit you with some crazy sunday headliner in the official announcement or somewhere down the line in an addition
This would make me very happy but I strongly doubt.
They will expand the Thursday music this year as they have kept adding little by little in the past, But I am almost positive they won't do a Thursday headliner.
the thought has crossed my mind, however, that would make the headliner The White Stripes, and has anyone seen them announced as a Headliner? I have not in any press release I have read.
Thursday night music evolved b/c after 2002 they quickly realized they needed to give the kids INSIDE the festival on thursday night something to do. But they also didn't want to make it so big that people outside would be pissed off they were on the outside. You have to remember, traffic lasts from Wednesday night to Friday Morning.
Up until 2006, the artists on Thursday were unannounced acts. 2006 was the first year the acts playing Thursday were actually on the artist list. In 2006, and every year prior, pretty much every band on thursday night have been relatively unknown, obscure, or an otherwise small act. Thursday has really been used as a launching pad for smaller artists who need recognition.
I think we will continue to see this pattern with Bonnaroo. Having a headliner on thursday DEFEATS the purpose of the Thursday music. IT forces everyone outside to want to be INSIDE on thursday night, as well as takes away from the lesser known bands who in recent years have gained some status in the scene from their performances (see PGroove and Toubab Krewe).
One last thing, I think they added the Thursday date to the dates because it truly is part of the festival, and needs recognition as such. It also shows people who are not familiar with Roo that, like 10k and Wakarusa and such, the festival is actually 4 days, not 3.
just curious - has anyone decided to come on wednesday instead of thursday due to the official change in dates?
I came on Wednesday last year and got to manchester around 10 or 11 and partied in the wal mart parking lot and went in when the site opened. I recommend it.
well, i really hope that they don't do a full day on thursday being that it is the last day of finals for my college and i really hope that it if thursday is a full day that the white stripes don't headline it being that i won't be able to make it till later in the day
thanks for the insight. i was on the fence as to whether or not i would try to get there wednesday. i'll be sticking w/ late thursday - i like to camp pretty far back, and wouldn't want to get there too early for my taste.
