Girl Talk His early stuff is noise rock, but his newer stuff is all Top 40 Dance Hits. I just saw him in Cleveland, OH and it's pretty much a giant, sweaty, drunken, two hour dance party. So, rather than list songs, I'll say check out YouTube footage of his live shows and listen to the entire album Night Ripper from front to back. Here's some links to the YouTube stuff:

You'd be better off downloading a show of theirs, and probably a new one with jimmy herring. A few studio songs dont really give you an idea of widespread. I listen to them from time to time, and still dont know any song names.

Rubber Factory is my favorite album, but the new Magic Potion is good too.
She's only got one album out and I'm not aware of any live-show only songs (I'm sure there are some, but yeah). So....pretty much anything off her album (it's called Alright, Still). Her lyrics are absolutely hilarious.
Personally I'll recommend: - Alfie - Knock 'em Out - LDN - Everything's Wonderful - Not Big
Forget anything you've heard about him. That would include his age, his too-Britishness, his divorce, his gloominess, his old-folkie status. Either it's not true or it's irrelevant.
None of his studio albums do him justice, though all have their merits and the last three are superb. Live albums are available via www.richardthompson-music.com. (Do check out the mp3 of "Dad's Gonna Kill Me.")
He'll be touring with a band--bassist Danny Thompson (Pentangle and lots of other people), drummer Michael Jerome (Pleasure Club, Blind Boys of Alabama), and multi-instrumentalist Pete Zorn (Arizona Smoke Revue)--which means an emphasis on the rockier stuff.

As for Widespread, d/l the 12/31/06 show from Phillips and listen to the second and third sets in detail, also their show from roo Sunday in '05 when Herbie Hancock sat in on "You Should Be Glad" is pretty sick. 4/20/02, Mikey's last year, also a great show.

Can we activate this one again --- I would love to burn some CDs with music from the performers I'm not familiar with. This is a great start. Anymore suggestions based on the new artists added to the roster? I'll have a 16 hour drive from MA to TN, so I have plenty of time to become a fan of all the performers! Thanks Roo Crew.
I'm quite a big fan of the flaming lips, and I have a decent amount of out of print stuff they made. Besides stuff on their album, here's what I think people should take a listen to:
1. The Gold in the Mountain of our Madness 2. Jets (Cupid's Kiss vs. the Psyche of Death) 3. Enthusiasm for Life Defeats Internal, Existential Fear (Progressive Dixieland Mix 2) 4. You've Got to Hold On 5. Blow Job
The last one is a very early demo of theirs, whereas the rest are more from their recent releases. These are probably tough to find, and I know that the Flaming Lips' official forum allows this kind of stuff up, so I'll put these on here for your enjoyment.
If any moderator or admin does not feel comfortable with me putting this stuff up here I will remove all traces of it.
