You know, I listen to just about every kind of music, and I have to say, I like Jack because he's just relaxing. I can't say that about everything I listen to, and I think I would really value that at Roo.
Maybe ill change boring to relaxing. Its almost kind of nostalgic to me. He just doesnt excite me, but i can definatly listen to him and chill with glass in one hand, lighter in the other and sing every word.
I'm with mikede. I can totally just relax and listen to Jack but as far as a live shows go I just don't find him all that exciting. I caught his show for a little in '03 and really liked the Jimmy Buffet cover he did but a guy with an acoustic guitar can only keep me entertained for so long in a live setting. Excluding Keller because he just does so much more. I just see Jack as more of an album guy.

We need someone to cover some Sublime tunes right?? Ehh...Jack Johnson doesn't seem like he'd be all that exciting live. I'd check him out probably on the strength of his studio stuff, but nothing I'd get too excited about.

He's playing that Kokua festival in Hawaii where all the proceeds are going to some charity him and hsi wife started. Its's not very big though, only Eddiver Vedder, Matt Costa and two local hawaii bands are playing with him, but who knows....Would he headline if he came here? I'm guessing no.

Jack on-stage, just comes across as some frat-boy trying to mimic Jimmy Buffett to me! Yeah it's rather pleasant but, it's all been done before...and much better! It's just so basic and safe, that I can't see why anyone would care one way or the other!
it would be so sweet if he ended up playing with ben harper. and matt costa blew me away at vegoose... i had not listened to his music enough apparently, cause i was not expecting how good he was live.
hehe damn i was caught! i never smite people, but the repetitive (not just you) frat-boy comments about anyone people don't like just piss me off! it was momentary and fleeting and i was feeling bad about it immediately after, but i see you got me back already
i'm sure i will exalt you shortly, i'm quite fickle

No problem at all. I know that people love him and I understand but, after seeing him live....I was REALLY disappointed. It just seemed so "paint-by-numbers" to me. He may be a good musician but, I just don't see the appeal when it comes to his live preformances. IMHO

I would've posted sooner but, I was making cinnamon pancakes (YUM YUM YUM!). I meant no offense or disrespect to you or your musical tastes, but I had to express how i (personally)felt about Johnson. I'm sorry for smiting you...and I do, indeed, plan to make-it-up to you. For your directness and honesty, I will "exalt" you once a day for the next week as a peace offering. I hope that you will accept this karmic olive branch and accept me as your friend. Peace?
I just want to say that both times I've seen Jack Johnson (once at Roo and once at ACL) I ended up sleeping in the grass during his set. I like his music well enough, but man what a boring concert (in my opinion)

with all the working i do, i couldn't think of anything better than passing out in the middle of a field listening to jack johnson. that sounds like a nice vacation.

yea jack was a great show for me in 05, although i only caught the last 4 songs maybe. but we were right by the big tree at which stage munchin on some fun guys. very enjoyable time
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Personally, my feeling is that Jack shouldn't have released so many albums rapid fire like he did after Brushfire Fairytales. BF is just so much better craftwise than the following albums because he had a lot of time to come up with the songs and get the right production. I remember when the album first came out in San Diego (I was living there during the summer), and I came back home telling everybody about this Hawaian surfer. Then the follow up album came and it was just sort of good. And the third album came it sounded even more like the second album, a few solid songs with a bunch of songs that sounded like they could use more time and work on the road.
All this is to say, I think Jack's doing the right thing by taking time off. He's obviously got a life outside of music, and I would rather him not release an album and tour every couple years if it means him finally making a proper follow up to Brushfire Fairytales.

Yeah, I guess it was kinda nice at Bonnaroo. But at ACL, where there are no latenights and I slept in my own bed at night, I would have liked to be awake and seeing other shows rather than sleeping in the HOT Texas sun. My ex wanted to see him though, and he put me to sleep. Although, I do like Brushfire Fairytales alot and his music is good laid back music to listen to on cd, but in concert he just bores me. Just my personal opinion.
