This is kinda a stupid question, but I've been wandering ....
Anytime I download music from napster it shows Ben Harper seperate from Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals.
So does Ben Harper have solo cds? Or are all of them with the Innocent Criminals?
What do you think he'll play during his set? His Both Sides of The Gun albums come up just under Ben Harper ( not Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals ) - so will he play songs from it ?

That's not confusing. I've followed them quite a bit over the years, and I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's all the same. Whether he made the albums with the Criminals or not you can expect him to play songs from pretty much any album.
That aside, unless you know all his stuff pretty well he'll play a few songs you don't know. The last time I saw them play they mixed it up pretty well - played a lot of old stuff etc. A couple great suprises : )

to answer your question, Ben Harper's studio albums are considered to be strictly his (although I believe members of the Innocent Criminals do play on some of the tracks). The Innocent Criminals are the band he uses in concert. They've been his boys for as long as I've known, they're a great band, on bass in particular. If you find music listed as "Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals" it is probably Harper's "Live From Mars" concert.
So, all Ben Harper songs are fair game. I saw him over the summer, great set:

The first encore was just Ben playing acoustic, it was one of the most beautiful performances I've seen live. A lot of people started to leave after the first encore, but he brought the band back out and rocked the place.
Most every Ben Harper cd is a Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals album, even if he's writing and arranging the tunes. There are exceptions though. Both 'Welcome to the Cruel World' and 'Diamonds on the Inside' were strictly solo affairs credit wise, the former being so because the band hadn't been set or named and the latter being because Harper was using a lot more musicians on that album than he normally does.

I really want to see Ben again this year. He was one of my highlights from the first Bonnaroo I attended (2003). He was also part of one of my fondest Bonnaroo memories. We watched Jack Johnson, Harper, and Neil Young all consecutive on the main stage that year. After Jack Johnson we bolted for water, and then got as close, without being assholes as we could for Harper. After he finished his set, a bunch of people exited to get water/food/etc. before Neil. We headed the opposite direction, directly toward the stage. We ended up second row! Anyway, later in Neil's set while he is playing Rocking in the Free World I look up to the rafters/scafolding left of the stage, and I see a guy, in a rasta hat, rocking HARD. He was just hanging on the side of the scafolding nodding/banging his head away. I had a huge smile on my face and turn to my friends and said, "Hey, that's Ben Harper up there just rocking away!" Awesome to see one musician digging another's set so much.
Problem with this year, I have a feeling that he is going to be against someone that I haven't seen or would rather see. As far as I can tell he will be preheadliner, which would potentially put him against:
The White Stripes Wilco The Flaming Lips Manu Chao SCI Franz Ferdinand Ratdog Damien Rice Gov't Mule Ziggy Marley
And out of that list the only shows I would see him over would be SCI, Franz Ferdinand, Ratdog, Damien Rice, and maybe Gov't Mule. Sucks to have conflicts, but I can't complain too much. Most people would love to have that "conflict".

Burn to Shine had the Innocent Criminals attached to it. I think it's basically just Ben's discretion, they're just along for the ride. I'm kinda hoping that Harper devotes at least a half hour of his set to just some acoustic songs. I've been wanting to see that for a long time now.

You caught me before I edited. My last paragraph should say ...the only things I WOULD see him over...
Not wouldn't.
And there would be a problem with your scenario. Him playing before The Police would most likely put one of the other big names I listed against him. Best case scenario would be for him to be up against Damien Rice, or Franz Ferdinand.

I just checked the confirmed performers list. All I need is for the Flaming Lips and Wilco to not fall on Saturday, unless they are late night. This happens and I would most likely not have conflict with Harper. Would love to see Ziggy Marley as well, but do you really think they would put him against Harper? Not to say they are identical, but wouldn't they attract a similar type of crowd?

No! Damien and Ben can't overlap! I would hate that. Damien and Ben are two of the artists I'm most excited for. If they did overlap, I would pick Damien, but I don't even want to think about that! Besides, I see Ben playing day and Damien playing evening.

Ben played preheadliner, on the main stage, 4 years ago, so I doubt he would play earlier this year. Your better hope is that Damien Rice plays earlier.

Yeah, but Damien will probably play in a tent....I don't think he'd want it to be any bigger than that. He always plays in small auditoriums and whatnot, so I would bet he'll be in a tent.

Actually, I would almost bet he is on the second stage at 3PM one of the days. Same time slot Bright Eyes got last year.
The members of the Innocent Criminals have changed over the years, too. Juan Nelson on bass has been pretty heavily involved with every album since "Cruel World" (the first one), and Leon Mobely on percussion has been with Ben the same length of time. The drummer changed after Burn to Shine, and then the other two dudes were added one at a time. I prefer the more stripped down lineup (with Ben as the only guitar) but its all good.

When I saw him this summer, he opened with "Take My Hand." Checking his website and the "On the Road" section, he was playing a lot of songs from that album while in Europe.
Did anyone buy the Ben Harper & The Blind Boys Of Alabama album. I really dug it but a lot of people I talked to really didnt like it, just wondering other peoples reactions? Sorry to get off topic here
They both played ACL 04 around the time that album was released, and I was hoping for a collaboration to no avail...

That would have been sweet...Great groove and sound to that album
I was never a big Ben Harper fan and then a friend dragged me to his concert last year in Central Park. He put on an AMAZING show... one of the best i've seen. I can not wait to catch him at Bonnaroo this year.

Agreed, I could no listen to it all the time but there are times I put it on and it does its musical job for me. Blind Boys Rule
Also really excited for Bens show this year, saw him at Meadowbrook in Detroit (area) with Damien Marley and he rocked it. Had a whole encore of just acoustic stuff that was real chill, then ended with Better Way and rocked the house, super stoked for this show...
I love Ben Harper he has an amazing voice and his band are incredible musicians! I saw him last year at the Gorge and the show was mind blowing During Burn One Down "one" of his drummers just went off on a solo that must of lastest a good 10 minutes!!! Crazy.....loved every moment!

saw him cover heart of gold at the show i saw him at in Detroit last summer...he played a bomb set at that concert, Ben harper is a huge draw to Bonnaroo form me
