Sorry for starting another Tool thread, I just didn't know where this question fit in the other threads.
I've seen Tool 4 times. All great, all fairly short. Would they be the first Roo Headliner to NOT use their given 3 hours? Tool's show is so staged (in a good way) that I would imagine it would be difficult to change it up for one night. Any thoughts? I have always wanted to see a nice long Tool show.
I have said it before, but my feeling on the subject is that Tool will not play 3 hours. I can see them playing 2, but thats probably it. Typically they play 90 minutes, so I can see them throwing an extra 30 out there for this. What people who arent Tool fans, or have never seen them, dont understand is that a 90 minute Tool set is not like any other 90 minute set you will see. Their songs are so powerful, and so emotional that by the end of the 90 minutes you are completely drained and feel like they played all night. They are a very different band for many reasons and this is certainly one of them. I would love nothing more then to see them play for 3 hours, but I dont see it happening. They put everything they have into their show and its so above and beyond the norm, that its often the case that they dont go 3 hours because they dont wanna kill themselves.
"They won't break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show. It is then that we will see the rising of the moon."
I would agree with that as well.....start late end early.....I can remember DMB doing that the year before as well as petty last year. I think we'll see a longer than normal show, but it's gotta be hard for a headliner to fill that timeslot to its capacity I would think. Im excited to see what Tool does with that length of time
How long was Petty's set last year? Start/finish time?
I'm sure Tool has an idea of what the "vibe" of this fest is. I know Tool is into the psychadelic thing and I thought maybe they would have fun with this.

Neil Young only played for about an hour and a half, and was also the only artist to have a huge police escort rush them out after the end of the show.

what time do you think they will go on. i would think it would have to be after dark, bc of their visuals and lights and such. they started their set at coach last year at apprx. 10:30-45

Prolly about 930 to 10 depnding how long tool is planning on playing. It wont be after 10 because then you'd be sitting around with no music for like 2 hours or so. If i remember right Petty came out at 945 and ended about 1130.

is it possible tool could play two 90 minute sets instead of a straight 3 hour set? also, ive heard conflicting things about tool being psychedelic can anyone shed some light on how psychedelic their live show are?

Trippy videos playing on large screens while they play. Plus a light show.

and the time is decieving. they took 5 minutes between songs. there was really no flow to it. glad i saw him but it was a huge letdown. just a greatest hits album note for note but with a few minute gap between most songs. id say it was barely over an hour of actual music being played. i think the gaps between songs were longer then the songs most of the time.
I think Tool will go over 2 hrs, that is barring they are all healthy, which is still a BIG if. How bout Radiohead last year? They filled the headlining spot with ease, playing something like 28 songs. Exactly a 2 1/2 hr set. I wish it could happen all over again
yeah, maynard was upset that they didn't get to play for longer. you have to keep in mind that tool plays to the crowd...if they get like a 8:30-12:00 timeslot or something like that they will almost definitely fill the whole time. also keep in mind they've played 3+ hour sets in the past...

They have never played a 3+ hour set before. Rarely have they gone beyond 2 hours.
For Roo- 1.5 hours minimum, 2 hours likely, 2.5 not so likely, 3 or more would signal the apocalypse (though, I will take that if it means a 3 hour set beforehand)

they most definitely have played 3+ hour sets...granted, its very rare and its more like 2 separate 90 minute shows. also keep in mind that up until danny tore his bicep tool was playing an average of 15 shows a month since may 06 throughout north america, europe, australia and japan for a total of like 25-30 countries. of course they were playing 1.5-2 hour sets. you cant predict the bonnaroo set based on the other shows...theyre taking some time off to recuperate, and bonnaroo is DEFINITELY NOT your average concert. expect 2.5 hours at least.
tool has never played 3+ hours sets. ever. im guessing at roo they play 2 hours. im happy as long as its more than their typical hour and a half. and if its over two hours that rocks. i deffinitely dont see them playing for over 3 hours. (unless they played their regular setlist then added disp./reflec./triad, wings 1and2, lost keys/rosetta stoned, 3rd eye, and pushit....haha im doubting it)

Maybe it's just me but, I don't see how lenghtening their set is changing it(unless they're formulaic as a motherf*cker). It seems to me that, if you like their music (i'm not a huge fan but will probably be there), them playing longer only makes it better....not different.
well if they play 50 shows at an hour and 15 minutes apiece and they bust out 2.5 -3 hours for roo that would be different. i think radioheads roo show qualified as "different' from the other stops on the tour
what shows has tool played that were 3 hours?? what was the set list?? it sounds too good to be true but id like to know if they have.
i guess it depends. usually if they play longer they bust out some rare songs. from what ive read of tool shows it seems that they stick to the same small setlist but they have a lot of gems that they dont seem to bust out much. im hoping we get all of those at roo. i guess its hard for me to read a tool show. i would expect that they would bust out everything and play 3 hours. but i expected the same from petty. and they seem to be a little neurotic. or atleast maynard does. but im pretty sure that like radiohead they will let it all hang out and it will go down as one of the best shows they have ever put on. superfly isnt going to pay them headliner pay for a typical show. im starting to get a little more excited for them now that ive started listening to them again and checked out some live shows. i think we will be in for something special as far as tool shows are concerned as long as the arm is completely healed and can take a 2.5+ hour beating

I'm predicting a 2.5 hour set, similar to radioheads, assuming the arm is healed. I agree that bonnaroo wouldnt pay them for just another stop on their tour, and i think maynard and co will want to put on a special show for bonnaroo. Theres really no way to know until the shows over though.
keep in mind that the amazzzzing light and screen show is timed to the music. that is why this last tour was the same almost every night. almost. since they are taking some time off, i hope they change the setlist AND the show. (longer). anything over 2 hrs. would be totally primo! you should see the top of the stage too. same crazy stuff that goes on behind maynard!
