they played for 3 hours. they didn't ever play for 3 hours.
guys, i think it might be time to agree to disagree
anyway, im sure this will still be an interesting set. I probably wouldnt go see tool (although I like aenemia)...so this is a good opportunity to check it out. im still worried the vibe might be a bit negative for 'roo, but that's just me.
i think ill just chill in the back and watch from a safe distance.
yeah i'll be doing the same. it kind of bothers me that Manyard does't really seem to have much concern for the fans and that kind of turns me off to them and makes me wonder if they're really that good as a 'roo performer.

I guess you and I will have to agree to disagree. I hope you'll be pleasantly surprised by the positivity they preach now. They aren't the same band that they were back in the opiate days.

I saw them when they played Lollapalooza - I think that was 94.
I remember it was during the day (so no light show) and it was really more that I heard them - since I don't remember "seeing" them play. Plus, I was nowhere near the front.
Then I saw APC like, 4 years ago. Maynard was on some elevated platform and there was almost no lights on the band - so you couldn't see them. Not really the band-audience interaction I typically enjoy.
I was listening to 10000 days last night - it's better than I thought it was. I might have to listen more carefully.

Just listened to my recording of that show, it was 2hrs 20 minutes...He took a 15-20 minute setbreak too, I recall, so he pretty much filled the entire allotted time. And not only was Like a Hurricane about 30 minutes, Love To Burn was a little over 20 minutes. Throw in Cortez the Killer and that's an hour right there.
The lengths of the songs are a little exagerated (I have the Soundboard Boot), but yes they played a decent amount of time. Also, I was second row the whole show, and there was no such set break. He played straight through. It took them a bit to get some things on stage (big psychadelic keyboard bird thingy), but there was not a setbreak.

Private message me your address and I will hook you up sir
from what i've seen of the tool shows i've gone to it seems that there's no spotlight. almost as if there's no center of attention on stage. i don't think they're going for arrogance or trying to distance themselves from the audience but more trying to focus on the bigger picture. it might come off as impersonal but they pull off the most amazing shows i've ever seen. not to step on any toes, just throwin my two scents in.
It's like, a few years ago, I was reading an interview between the band and fans about Aenima, and this one guy asked them "what is (x song) about?"
Well, Maynard answered, "What do you think it's about?"
The guy thought he was being a d*ck, but it was an honest question. To them, what they think the song is about should have nothing to do with what you think it's about. That's why they make themselves basically peripheral during the show. They want people to take the music for what it is, and not try to lead them down a certain path. They're not being douchebags, they really do just want you to get something personal out of it. (Something unique to you)

From what I heard about the Radiohead show last year (I have not been able to go to any roo's yet, just heard thousands of stories from my brother and his friends) that it was one of the best shows ever at Roo and I have a feeling that Tool will try to match this with one of their best sets in a long time. They really have the chance at Roo to update their set with a lot of their older songs along with newer songs to make it a 3 hour show. I think they are going to blow the lid off of bonnaroo and it will be a great show no matter what.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
yeah. another misconception about tool is that their just angry and heavy. but its alot deeper than that.
well, a lot of their music is angry, the problem is people confuse the anger with hate. Maynard has done an interview about this, I'll see if i can track it down.
