Where the Police will play..and how long will they play for? I am just wondering that if you did not have the time to sit hours ahead for a great seat..will you still be able to hear the band really good and see them...or will you be sooo far back they will just a spot on the horizon. When you see the overhead shots of the whole set-up it is almost overwhelming on what a HUGE event this is!

They will play the main (What) stage. Headliners usually play 2-3 hours (from roughly 8:30-11:30). Since they aren't really a jam band, I would figure their set will run no more than two and a half hours. The stage is massive, and there are relatively large screens on either side of the stage. People like to spread out all over the place, many people prefer to just be further back and chill out, have space to dance and be goofy. If you want to be in the first 10-20 rows of people, you should start waiting at the stage a little after 7, but even if you come late, you can still get a pretty good spot. Sound quality on the main stage is really good, you won't have problems hearing them.

You can seriously hear the headliners on that stage from the outskirts of the campground. If you are in the area of the stage you will have no problem with the sound.
You'll definitely be able to hear well no matter what time you show up, the sound is pretty consistant all over. You'll probably be able to get at least half way through the crowd at any time without crowding people (if you're by yourself) at just about any time. As far as seeing, the stage can be a good distance off, but in the past they've had two HUGE screens on either side of the stage that are easily visible from anywhere in the crowd. But there are a LOT of people, so if you really want a good spot, you'll have to wait.

I have posted this in other threads, so here goes again.
You do not need to wait to get a good spot. You need to wait to get a GREAT spot. See what you want to see throughout the day, and then go to the main stage later. If you come right after whatever band finishes on whatever other stage you were at, you should have no problem getting well in front of the soundboard, which I would say is equivalent to getting floor seats at an arena show. You may be like 40 rows back, but you will definately be pretty close.
That is one of my big draws to Bonnaroo this year. I will be able to be as close at the Bonnaroo Police show, as I would with the most expensive ticket to any other show on their tour. That right there almost pays for the Bonnaroo ticket.
greecianlover is right. Any spot in the entire Centeroo Main Stage area is a good spot as the sound equipment is everywhere for maximum listening value.
The GREAT spots are hard to come by, but for the Police this year, you better camp the day for a spot cause that one will be tricky.
I remember last year, I walked back to my camp in Ferris Bueller (about a 10 minute walk from Centeroo) about halfway through Phil Lesh. We were kind of on a hill, and the sound quality was surprisingly decent. I got on top of my vehicle and had a clear view of the whole What Stage. I couldn't really make out what was on the screens or anything, but the sound was good. Definitely one the most memorable moments of Bonnaroo I have, until the torrential downpoor started.

I listened to the whole Tom Petty show from about a mile away. Sound wasn't too great. . . but I WAS A MILE AWAY in my tent!
So yeah, if you are at the actual show, ANY spot sounds fine.
Me to. I was sitting there wondering who was playing Tom Petty at their campsite, when I realized it was his show I was hearing and we could hear each song pretty clearly all the way out in BFE.

Ha! That's funny. It was dead silent around our campsite because we were way out in the very corner of the campite that you have to take the boardwalk to get to. This year, we're in VIP, so I plan on hearing a lot more concerts, which makes me happy!

I could hear Tom Petty from my campsite last year too, just as clear as if I was right there. It was kinda cool, even if I'm not really into Tom Petty.
The main stage is loud, I was standing back probably a 1/4-mile from it while Oysterhead was on last year and it was still almost painfully loud.
Yeah, on Sunday, after Bonnie Raitt we went back to our site so we could get ready to leave (ended up leaving after 4 hours of waiting, our friend got f'd up and passed out at his Boston friend's tent) and while we were waiting, we could hear Phil Lesh pretty clearly. This was amazing, mostly because allot of people were leaving at this particular time, making it pretty loud in it's own.
The What stage is verrry loud and it's visible from the entrance of Centeroo. I remember last year we made sure we had good spots, so we stayed at the same spot for both nights. It was right under the right-side screen, if you're looking at the stage, beside the steps up the stage. Needless to say it was really loud, and I could've gone with staying a little farther back (more like near the end of the concessions there) but those side spots are great if you wanna see the band well. They didn't get too crowded either, and allot of people chilled near the fence, which is a great chill spot too.
Last year I just blew out during Phil Lesh and took off for camp during set break. We were in VIP and a dream of mine came true- crashing to the sound of live music while hearing the sound of rain... that was truly a moment of heaven.

I'd definitely go to sleep smiling with the sound of rain drizzling off my tent and live music in the background. Wow...gives me chills thinking about that.

I remember in 04 when the Dead play Sun night, there where people who were waiting at 1:00 PM or whenever they open the gates to the What Stage. The took off running as fast as they could to get right up on the railing for the Dead. They waited all day, through all of the other acts to be up front for the dead.
The question is how "Good" of a spot do you want?
In 05 my wife and I went up and waited to the side at the end of the Allman Bros and when the crowd filed out, we filed in for DMB. We got Great spots as in, about 8 or 9 rows back. We chilled there for like an hour and a half or two. We sat on a blanket and everyone around was cool.
