Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I saw the Hold Steady at the HiTone in Memphis last night. It was INCREDIBLE. Make sure to catch them at Roo if at all possible. You will not be disappointed.
On a side note, I have now felt the sting of being smited. Which would be one thing if I had posted something that someone disagreed with (like if I get smited now because someone hates the Hold Steady)...but I haven't posted in a couple of days...so I guess someone just has a general distaste for me. Oh well...sorry...I'll try to do better next time.
nice. glad to hear the memphis show was good. I missed it but I saw them over the weekend at Langerado. fUn fun band. definitely gonna see them again at the Roo.
Glad to hear that they were good at Langerado. They have a "bar band" reputation, so I wondered how they were in a festival setting. How was the crowd? I'm wondering where they will be at Bonnaroo. On one hand they are getting HUGE critical acclaim, on the other hand they played in a small venue here in Memphis, and I don't think it sold out (pathetic). So it is hard to gauge their popularity. I'm guessing they will be in a tent. Maybe in the Andrew Bird slot from last year? Who knows?
The Tent was fairly empty. Not a whole lot of people there. But alot of the shows that were early in the day were fairly empty. That's how it was at Langerado. Basically no crowd until 4 pm. The people who were there were having a good time. I enjoyed it. They dedicated a song to anyone who had a bad acid experience at a Grateful Dead show.
I'm amazed at the fact that they aren't drawing better with all the acclaim they have been getting for Boys and Girls in America...on the other hand, I would love it if it was a relatively small crowd at Roo...just to be up close and personal...
Langerado is pretty much a hippy festival. The crowds for MMW, moe., pgroove, etc etc were huge. For bands like Malkmus and the Hold Steady, they were really easy to walk right up to. I expect their crowd at Roo to be 5x as big, if only b/c Roo is 5x bigger than the Rado.

Yes, I was at the Hold Steady show at Langerado too, and the crowd was tiny. It was sort of dissappointing because I feel like their show is really a show the crowd needs to get involved in. They were good, but had some sound issues at the beginning (no mic for most of Stuck Between Stations for Craig), and continued to have balance issues throughout (not enough vocals, too much guitar if you can believe it). They are one of my favorite bands, so I won't be missing them at Bonnaroo, and I'll probably try to get up front, but I'm hoping that the sound folks at Bonnaroo have their act together before they start.
For the record, some of the indie shows blew my mind at Langerado. Explosions in the Sky, New Pornographers, Girl Talk (not really indie, but hey) and Malkmus (new drummer (ex-Sleater Kinney drummer) Janet Weiss gets a huge thumbs up) were all FIRST RATE. New Pornographers light show was tremendous, they sounded phenomenal, and I am deeply in love with Carl Newman's sister. Explosions in the Sky must play a late night at Bonnaroo. Must, no questions asked. Minds will be blown pronto style. Anyway, that was off topic but I just wanted to share.
Hold Steady were good, not great. But I don't think it was their fault. I'm thinking they'll bring it for Bonnaroo, and I'm psyched.
