How about Wolfmother? Sounds like classic rock to me (does it have to be old to be classic???).
IMO, you have to put Wolfmother in the same catagory as Kings of Leon, because I think they're too similar to each other to do otherwise. I personally wouldnt put them in the classic rock catagory, but I don't really like the idea of listing "classic rock" as a genre in general, because it more denotes reference to time than sound. But thats just me. *shrug* Personally I'd just put them both in the alternative rock catagory.

Definately some sort of rock category. Whenever I listen to them, I always hear a little bit of old Black Sabbath in there somewhere. (ozzy, not dio)

The white strips are blues, punkish (early work), and rock. Yeah this is a pretty hard list to make if you were wanting to go into great detail. I hope everyone is liking this idea for a list!
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

jam bands and psychedelic go hand in hand... wilco is indie
Jam and psych do not go exactly hand in hand, i know genres are open to a bit of interpretation but Tool is not a Psychedelic rock band and no jam bands are. There is however a strong connection between "jamming" when it comes to both genres. At this point the Black Angels are the only band I would lump into psych band group.
"Indie" is not a genre. The White Stripes are on a Major label, they are not indie rock.
indie used to mean not on a major label, well technically it still does, but it has become more than that...it is a scene and a sound, although a very very broad one

Alternative rock: Sam Roberts Band (saw 'em tonight, pretty good!)
Bluegrass: Charlie Louvin Uncle Earl
I've seen Hot Tuna several times, should be under jam bands Rodrigo y Gabriela may play acoustic, but the first thing you think is (gawd damn good) latin

I love the list.... even if it (and all the discussion) shows how great it is that you can't completely classify them. It's interesting to see how people's definitions vary.

I would put Xavier Rudd under Folk-Rock...unless you have a category for someone who plays a didgeridoo (coolest instrument ever)
I was introduced to the didgeridoo(sp) during the early "Rave" days. It's one of the most disticntly trippy instruments ever. It blew many of our minds back then and it will always hold a special place in my heart/mind. Anyone who can properly utilize an instrument like this is cool with me.

Is it just me or does the proportion of jam bands in relation to the other genres seem to be dropping? Troubling in my opinion/tastes... also, I would love to see more "jamgrass" related bands and reggae, very enjoyable for outdoor shows. BAnds like the White Stripes just dont do anything for me... Not trying to offend others tastes, just feel like it is going in a different direction, which I guess why this will be my first 'roo in 3 years.

I would classify Hot Chip as either Brit Pop or Electronica. Yes they are on an indie label but there are many genres on indie labels. Electronica and Brit Pop are a more descriptive catagory for those who want to attend a band based on what kind of music they play.
Thank You very much for working on this list. I will be printing it out and taking it with me as the we get closer to the festival.

EOTO is Michael and Jason from String Cheese, they are some type of electronic/percussive duo, i'd classify them as electronic/jam or something, i don't think galactic fits only into jambands, they have electronica, a little hip hop as i saw from vegoose's webcast last year, my guess is EOTO may play latenight, they're listed saturday, so maybe sat. latenight in the same tent as sasha, maybe girl talk too

I've sent in my application to the Real World. So I'm hoping to hear back from that. I'm putting A LOT of my eggs into that basket, the MTV basket. I'm also thinking about getting a gun, and dealing crack. Being a crack dealer. Not like a mean crack dealer, but like... like a nice one. Kinda friendly like, "hey, what's up guys? Want some crack?"

I could be wrong, but I thought the announcement that EOTO would be there mentioned it was a Sonic Stage apperance. I don't think they'll be playing a tent set as well, more like the Futureman/String quartet Sonic Stage exclusive we had last year.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
