I can't imagine Mule will play 3 full sets. While there is enough time to do so, that would be a bonnaroo first (3 sets in one night by one band.)
I will agree that they will play much much longer than the Flaming Lips though (4 hours minimum for Mule 2.5 Hours MAXIMUM for Lips), so you have time to catch both.

Even if it is only a 2 set show, you will see most of the guests in the second set. Mule tends to be pretty straightforward with their first sets.

I agree. also, the list of guests will be endless, especially after all the apperances Warren has made at other people's sets during Roo, many people will return the favor. Mark Dave Schools down for sure.

Now that we know The Lips will be late-night, what are the chances they will be on the second stage like Trey in '05 or Primus in in '04?
You have two possibilities the way i see it. This theory is based on galactic being latenight as well mind you. The 2 options are as follows:
The Flaming Lips-->Sasha & Digweed Galactic Gov't Mule
All three shows in tents.
or...
The Flaming Lips Girl Talk-->Sasha & Digweed Galactic Gov't Mule
FLips on the second stage, with the other three shows in tents.
Let's hope the latter is the way Superfly goes with this. If so, then we should get the UFO, as they will have the whole time from the last band that plays that stage, all the way till midnight to set up. Sh*t they just may set it up the night before, and leave it there all day.

I had a terrible sh*tty week and this just made it all better. Thank god for good souls like Kliph and the FLips who actually care enough about their fans to inform them asap.

Great News, I have never sen FLips and I was hoping for a late night set...Bonnaroo Gods have granted me my wish...Praise Them

Don't hold your breathe for that one. They haven't played that in over a decade. I'd love to see them play some stuff off of Transmissions or Clouds Taste Metallic. Maybe bust out Pilot Can At The Queer Of God, but it seems the only old tracks they consistently play is She Don't Use Jelly.

So, it could logically follow that they may pull out more older tunes to fill another epic 2 hour set!
I'm hoping for it, but it's doubtful with them. They never really do any of their older, guitar heavy stuff since Ronald left. LSTP was a helluva surprise when they did it. I can almost guarantee that they'll do the amazing version of Pompeii that they unveiled during the free show in Florida recently.
Nonetheless, still an amazing set they did.

This is the best news a boy could have! What a birthday present for me...my closest friends and my favorite band in the best slot at the biggest party in America!
So we are still trying to organize the Zaireeka party but i think i'd like to do it BEFORE the LIPS show...in fact i was thinking friday night...it will only get people more psyched for the show that way. If anybody wants to participate...you don't have to bring a copy of the album or aboom box you can just come and listen please PM me.
Also we may be combining the Zaireeka party with a Bloomsday celebration...since Bllomsday is that weekend.....and since i figure there won't be a huge number of people who want to do either but there may be a non-trivial overlap between the groups. So if you have a copy of the Great Book feel free to bring it or again just come and listen.....
I'll make athread about this when we get a little closer...

For all of you worried about the Mule overlap...
When Mule plays these 3 set special shows, they usually tend to follow this formula:
1st Set Straight Mule, with maybe a guest for one song.
2nd and 3rd Sets This is where you will see all the craziness go down.
If I am right about this, it means that if you go to Lips, and then head over to Mule after that's over, you should only miss a little of the guests.
Yeah, but you get a lot of good covers in the first set. I also agree that Mule will play 3 sets, they always do for their "special" shows.
I think it could go one of two ways.
Three sets, the way I mentioned above, or two long ass sets.
If it is just two sets, you would probably see something like a normal Mule set for the first set right up until the end when they bust out a guest spot and play a cover with a really long jam. Then the second set would be balls to the wall crazy, with a very lengthy encore (at least 3 songs, which for Mule could be damn long).

If need be, yeah. I'm not a huge fan of the Flip's music, but i dont doubt they put on a sweet show, but come on, Mule doesnt say its a special show unless its really special. An example from their new years show first set, i would kill my self if i missed she said, she said to tomorrow never knows, to whiter shade of pale. Just me though, im sure the people who do end up skipping the begining of Mule if need be wont regret it either.

Fair enough. I really struggled with this decission, and have finally decided that I will do all of Lips and catch the last half of Mule. That is unless Mule announces something HUGE as far as guests go.

Sorry to be redundant but this is awesome news! Seeing The Flaming Lips was def going to be one of the highlights of the week. The thing I'm looking forward to most, however, is seeing Sasha and Digweed. Looks like I better rest up during the day cause it looks like I'm going to have a long night ahead of me!
Just got back from seeing the Flaming Lips playing a tiny festival at Brown Universtity and it was amazing!!!! Can't remember the setlist to well but it was almost the same as the previous one posted except for with more Mystics. The show was top notch though. Not as good as 03's Roo set. But they did play a rockin Pink Floyd like Pompeii!!!! It was the shit. Wayne kept rambling about Virginia Tech and the government and then they did a bugle salute to the US military which was sweet. I'll find the setlist soon and post it but it was a really good show. Wayne introduced himself at the beginning in a giant bubble and rolled around the crowd giving people high fives. Also, it was a day show and it was actually really cool but they definitely need it to be nightime for there lights and fog. Oh and there were SOOOOOO many balloons. It was amazing.
I'm glad to hear there playing late night. I'm willing to bet they bust out the UFO on the which stage. And I also wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't guest artists considering Wayne's good friends with Jack White. Anyway, Saturday is hopefully looking like OCMS->Ben Harper->FLips->Govt Mule->DJ Sasha and John Digweed. Wow what a day that would be. Hopefully no conflicts!

I feel like I'm the only person on the board who is thrilled that the FLips are (probably) going up against Mule. Let it be said that I have nothing against them, and will do everything in my power to catch some of their set. I'm just thrilled that the crowd for the FLips will be reduced greatly.
