Well, he's in Atlanta the 13th, and Florida the 15th and 16th, then New Orleans on the 17th. Unless he rushes over just to play on Thursday, I'd doubt it. He played Thursday in '05, but only to accompany Gabby La-La, Les didn't really play much, and I walked away about halfway through whatever that was.

yea i was bummed about missing that in 05, but after listening to it (and seeing gabby a few times since with the fancy band) i can't say i still dwell on it
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

I thoroughly enjoyed Gabby's set in 05. I remember waiting for her to go on and the crowd was chanting "Les! Les!" which I thought was a pretty sh!tty thing to do to someone (Gabby), shout someone elses name at her show. Then she came on by herself and did a few songs and all the Les fans who didn't know her started groaning and leaving. Then when les finally did come on everybody cheered and yelled, only to be further dissapointed by his fairly unremarkable bass lines and Gabby's shrill voice. I loved it.

It isn't always about "stellar" noodling. Her solo stuff certainly isn't boring, which is more than I can say for SCI. I do prefer the frog brigade to the Fancy Band w/ Gabby, but she's not bad. All a matter of taste.

Gabby LaLa is a great sitar player. Did you hear her in '05 when she played with Mike and the Duo? She was very good. I think she's a great musician, but her solo stuff isn't for me.

In my experiences with seeing Gabby play she's real hit or miss. There have been times when I wish she'd just walk off stage, and times when I wish everybody else would. In her defense though, the sitar isn't exactly the easiest of instruments to play.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!

i dont think its gonna happen. Les can skip Roo this year, but i bet HE wants to see THE POLICE play just as mush as everyone else. He is big fan. so that means that he will have to catch them on another date if he isn't at Roo.
atlanta isnt to far im making the drive right after his show on the 13th he could do it if he wants to
yea, i plan to do the same thing if i can. hopefully les follows us. if thur. is really going to be a full day or at least thur. late night shows would be a great idea, then he could play late night.

Whoever is going to the Les Claypool shows around the time of Roo should try to get an autograph, or do anything to just be able to talk to him in person, and ask about the possibility of him coming to Roo for that Thursday. The only thing is that would make him be playing for 5 straight days if does go to Roo for Thursday night.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

I'm going to see his show at Variety Playhouse, too. I think Oatmealschappz and Thelowend are as well. Let me know if you need help getting there once you're around the ATL area or if you want to meet up before the show and join the pre-game fun. Just PM me if you are interested.

it depends on our work schedules. i want to do that, but i may not be able to.
i figuered all of you claypool fans would be interested in the addition to the gathering of the vibes lineup. heres the email they sent out
Not to be outdone by the flowering blossoms outside, the Vibes lineup blooms even brighter with a new round of artist additions.
We're thrilled to announce that bass virtuoso Les Claypool will be back with us this year on Saturday night, immediately before Ratdog.
Those of you who were with us in 2000 at Bridgeport remember the fireworks last time Bobby and Les played back-to-back sets at the Vibes. We've also heard your requests for some reggae acts and are happy to oblige, with legendary roots rockers The Wailers and modern-day torch bearers John Brown's Body. Singer/songwriter extraordinaire Martin Sexton and organic progressive groovesters U-MELT are also on board.
and heres a link to that claypool/ratdog show they are talking about. you can download it or just listen to it off the site. its great stuff. www.archive.org/details/rd2000-06-24.flac16
