As some of you guys may know, Blind Melon is in the process of a comeback with a new singer. He's no Shannon, of course, but he sounds good. Over at the Melon forums, I posted a question about the possibility of Melon being at Bonnaroo, and Rogers Stevens, One of the Melon guitarists, wrote a response that some of you guys might be interested in.
------------- Hey Rogers, I don't know what ya'll thought about playing at Woodstock, but would you ever consider playing another festival? Such as... Bonnaroo? The music featured at the festival has expanded to the point where Melon would be a fitting addition. Not to mention, people at the Bonnaroo forums have been surprisingly talking about Melon quite a bit. The festival is in mid-June, so that's probably a little early, but if it's a possibility then you guys should look into it. I might get a heart attack if it happens though.
"we want to do Bonarroo, but are probably too late to get on the bill this year. They book those things way in advance....We will be doing other festivals this year, though. Calls are being made...arms are being twisted...puppies are being held hostage. There will be an effort to do it next year for sure, unless some miracle happens this year." « Last Edit: Apr 15, 2007, 10:09am by rogersstevens » ------------
So it looks like the Melons are more than likely not going to be there this year, but it sounds like they may be there next year! What an awesome artist addition that would be this year, though. It would totally make up for the lack.
Alright, it's waaaaay to early for the "who is big enough to headline" forum for next year! I'm still dizzy from the argument against Pearl Jam being big enough and now you're tossing in a Blind Melon reunion?!?!!? Let's table that argument until July!
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

Love Blind Melon. It's so different without dearly departed Shannon Hoon, but i still listen to the posthumously released material, like Abandon Jalopy and Unified Theory.
Cool you caught Rogers' attention and got a reply. I love the Extra Virgin album.

I don't know where I ever mentioned them headlining... If they show up next year, they obviously wouldn't be headlining. The truth is that most people haven't thought about Blind Melon in about 10 years. So I dunno where all this headlining stuff came from.
As for the new stuff, I think we should wait until the new CD comes out before anyone starts making any judgments. The three new songs are nothing special, but I've only listened to them once or twice. I recall it taking me a little while to get into Soup, and now it's one of my favorite albums.
As for the tour, they are definitely gonna bust out the old stuff. I'm just as curious as anyone else to hear how it will sound. Hopefully good.

While, i do agree... we shouldnt make judgements before the album is released. i must still stand up for my BM. Im not saying that the album is going to be junk, im just disappointed that they are going to assume the same band name and therefore noteriety that goes along with the name. a name whose music was heavily transcended through hoon (lyrics, voice, soul).
as i am certain this happens numerous times with many other bands who have a member who passes on (although i cant think of any particular example at this moment) i am strong believer in definitley carrying on the music, but modifying the identity. which involves something as petty as yes, a name change.

not to drag it out ... but...
Well said, and I agree 100%. It really left a sour taste in my mouth when I heard this news last year.
Alice In Chains did their reunion tour last year and received a great response from fans. They however were just being an AIC jukebox. Not a single new tune was written. Their new singer also sounded great, and was pretty dead on with his Layne impressions. I'd still be pissed if they assumed the same name and tried to put out new material. It just comes off a disrespectful to me. Taking something that actually meant something at one point and turning it into a cash cow.

I love Blind Melon....but they should have did like the rest of Sublime and made their music under a different name. Long Beach Dub Allstars rocks... but if they would have come back as Sublime i would have been disapointed.
Rest In Peace~Shannon Hoon~Bradley Nowell
.... i will buy the new album though and hopefully it will be good. I love all those guys.
One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. So hit me with music. Hit me with music, now, yeah. Hit me with music. Brutalize me with music.
