...Is that none of the staples of most large summer fests (Flecktones, The Duo, MMW, ect.) are not listed at all. I mean WSP and SCI are there, but all of those folks have very large gaps in their posted tours in the middle of june, MMW's even playing at Wakarusa like 4 days beforehand. (Hmmm....)
I saw an awesome set with the Flecktones and DJ Logic (not Shadow, I guess this part doesn't really relate anymore) at the Bershire Fest like 6 years ago that was amazing. I've seeShadown MMW and the Flecktones a bunch in clubs and theatres around here but have always thought that both groups are WAY better outside with ass-tons of people around. And the Duo's just nasty.

the flecktones, mmw, and the duo (grab) were there last year. As far as I can tell they have not booked any bands that were there last year so I wouldn't count on them being added. but yeah, the duo's nasty

That doesn't surprise me at all. Roo is trying to keep from being obscured by all the other fests that have sprung up (or attracted a lot more attention) in the wake of Roo. Most of those festies' lineups look like a who's who of past Bonnaroo lineups. For diehard fans of bands who play a lot of fests Roo's lineup may look weak. But for Roo vets (like myself) who have seen all those bands many times at roo before, the massive infux of new blood is very exciting. Roo seems to be making a very concious effrot to minimize back-to-back repeat acts. A lot of people have been upset, saying "Roo won't be the same" w/out Trey or Les or MMJ. To me "being the same" is the antithesis of Bonnaroo. I don't want it to be the same every year. How boring would that be?
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

I'm so glad we get new bands and new oppurtunities to see diverent collaborations. Those "staple" bands have played roo multiple times and probably will in the future!
Having the same ten bands would not be fun for six years in a row. Not for them either!

Right on. This is how Bonnaroo sets itself apart, by continually being fresh and branching out. They take artists like MMJ and make them the prize of other festivals. And best of all is that they don't just look for what's new-- they are always willing to go back to what is tried and true. Which is why we can all expect to see all those names mentioned return to Bonnaroo in the coming years.

It always makes me happy to see people recognizing Bonnaroo's diversity as a plus not a minus!! Karma to both of you!!

I e-mailed management for The Duo and MMW. MMW said they wouldn't be playing, unfortunately, which leads me to believe they weren't asked to play. The Duo said it was very doubtful. What a bummer....
