Also I don't know if anyone caught Electric Eel Shock last year, I thought it was so bad. I couldn't stop laughing at those Japanese fools. They were jumping up and down and trying to rock out so hardcore, but they're Japanese and they could barely speak any English whatsoever, I couldn't take them seriously. I laughed for about 20 minutes at them, then left.
Actually, I don't think you were supposed to take them seriously...and I think they're also supposed to look like fools. The drummer plays naked with two drumsticks in each hand, for god's sake.
Trey in 05 sucked, OCMS didn't suck, but I didn't enjoy their set that well.....liked the album just didn't sound that great to me then , but I'd check um out again.
Beck sucked last year, but its like other people said what you hate someone else will love.
Talk about the minority.... I absolutely LOVED Petty last year and I walked away from Radiohead thinking it wasn't as good a show as the first time I saw them two years previous in Atlanta. It was the first time I had seen Petty, so maybe its just seeing someone for the first time that does it for me....which is why I can't wait to see the Police.
^ can i boo him because he sold his soul to the dark side? hes a mockery to his sport, im not gonna hate though i understand where he's comming from, RPW (real pro wrestling) aint exactly the NFL in terms of signing bonuses and stuff, but still. he shoulda got a job coaching and ran a summer camp or two like all the other respectable olympic wrestlers.

except i just plain thought it was stupid... puppets? c'mon if i wanted to see nuts like that i'd buy your damn dvd
The puppets were funny. and in case you didn't notice, the puppetteers were ON STAGE w/ Beck and the boys, mimicing their whole show. It was entertaining. It made me laugh. The movie was cheesy, but who cares. It was a unique part of the show (he did a different short film in every town on his tour). It was just a good fun set. I really don;t know what everybody was expecting. I had a good time, and so did all my friends. Ah. to each his own I guess. selah.

I thought the puppets were hilarious!
A lot of Beck's sound is in the production, he uses a lot of effects, and its not exactly the kind of thing you can recreate live. Nothing he played blew me away, but he supplemented with real performance. That dinner-table jam was amusing, the puppets were creative, it was cool to hear Beck do some acoustic stuff. It wasn't a great show or anything, but I thought it was damn entertaining.
Also, the audio was really bad during his show, which is suprising for the main stage, I'm not sure if that's the fault of his crew, or Bonnaroo.
During Beck I think they mostly showed the puppets on the big screens. That must have sucked for people watching far away. Being closer I was able to see all the sh*t going on stage. It sucks when a band just plays and does not give a performance.
Beck was definitely underwhelming--I'm kicking myself for missing Cypress Hill, but I wanted a good spot for Radiohead. His whole set seemed to be a little tongue-in-cheek, "I don't really care about putting on a killer show" kind of show. I mean, what was with the bear-suit wrestling and the bogus puppets dancing to 'Loser'?
Saul Williams--he sucked; only sat through him to get to The Mars Volta. But I've heard others say that Saul Williams was their favorite performer at roo 05. Go figure b/c I thought he sucked big.
On the other hand, I pretty much hate DMB, but his 05 show was actually decent w/ Warren and Robert Randolph sitting in. Same deal w/ Tom Petty; I'm not a big fan but his show was fun. When Stevie Nicks came out we couldn't stop laughing. I mean, we laughed until we cried, making goat sounds and bleeting like a sheep. I'm sure the people around us thought we were nuts.

He did both these things on every stop of that tour. I think the puppet/Loser thing was a chance to let the puppetters take center stage. People bitch about it, but it was more entertaining than sitting in silence waiting for an encore. The bear suit was a bit silly, but it did give us a preview of a new [at that time] song (1,000 BPM).

Let's be scientific here people. Music is a subjective experience. And "sucking" isn't exactly quantitative. Whether or how much you enjoy a particular artist's performance depends on any number of factors, many of which the artist has no control over. These include your familiarity with the artist, your familiarity with the style of music, the sound quality, any distractions around you (like that guy singing along), your mood, the crowd around you, your level of fatigue, the weather, the chemicals swirling around your brain, etc. So the fact that someone didn't like a performance, doesn't necessarily mean the performer sucked. Do some performers have off days? Clearly. But you've got a smorgasboard of music to choose from and if you love live music, the odds are very good that you will have a great time and want to come back again and again.
Yeah, what's with the people that feel the need to sing along? It is so damn distracting. During Modest Mouse in '05 these two loud, obnoxious girls sang along really loudly and very poorly to almost 30 minutes of their set (along with such classic between-song-commentary as "Ohh, Isaac is sooo hot...blah...blah..") before being distracted by something shiny and finally wandering off. It really sucked. I would've just moved, but I had a great spot. I mean it's cool if the whole crowd is getting into it and singing along and the band is encouraging it, but if you're the only one around you doing it, you should just stop. BONNNNNAROOOOOOO!

One of them is a professional fisherman btw.
And you pretty racists in this post too. Japan puts out some awesome music. In fact there is a lot of good music thats not sung in english.
Thou I think they did call us Round Eyes at some point, lol.

Trey sucked a fat wang in 05. I was bored as hell... my friend ended up collapsing during the set (silly sigh bin) so we ended up leaving... but i wouldnt have lasted much longer anyways...
I was let down by bob dylans set... kinda sleepy.
I truely enjoyed Modest Mouse (mind you they are one of my favorite bands...) despite the fact some drunk frat boy in front of me sang along out of tune to the popular songs... he kept almost burning himself on my cigarrettes, so I told him to watch his step, and he thought i was offering him one. douche.
I like Beck, but it was too hot. I wish it would have been a night time set. I liked the set list, but i was too far away, couldnt hear very well... and in the middle of the set i discovered a quarter sized scab on my scalp from getting sunburned which kinda bugged me out.
Widespread playing two nights in a row kind of sucked too. I really wish they had another headliner that year... Im sort of being forced to see them this year since they are closing out the fest, but it should be a good set seeing how it is the last band playing.
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio." -Hunter S. Thompson
Beck was pretty bad last year and I consider myself a pretty big fan of his. It was a weak performance. Luckily, Radiohead tore it up immediately after.

Dude...you're not supposed to take them seriously. That's part of their schtick. I suppose it might be lost in translation if you've never seen a Japanese Metal/Punk show before, but that's pretty much the genre. It's all about jumping around, acting crazy, playing loud and having fun.
I was underwhelmed by Saul Williams, Bob Dylan and - gasp - The Mars Volta. Fell asleep during all three sets. They just didn't connect with me. Clearly, I was in the minority with Williams and TMV but whatever -- I saw plenty of other stuff that rose above. No ill-will towards any of them and they definitely didn't "suck" in my book.
I think Beck last year was pretty weak, but it may have been just that my expectations were so high.
And I though he was great because my expectations were so low. Different perspectives I guess. Now Gomez on the Sonic Stage- IMHO that sucked. Stuck it out for moe!
