anyone have any ideas on how to get a big helium balloon to roo and have it last all weekend? i know you can get balloons for birthday parties and such at the grocery store, but i don't think it would last all weekend. then there's the problem of transport... who has room for a big balloon in their van?

I've personally never taken a balloon with me b/c of that same problem. I just use my neighbors balloons as landmarks. I have seen and heard other people talking about bringing helium tanks with them. I think that would take up a lot of room though and you know it would be hell convincing the security people that its not nitrous. I don't know but that's the only thing I've heard that actually sounds like it would work and to tell the truth, even if you bring a balloon(unless it's really big) you won't be able to see it until you get right up on it anyway. I think it's best to use a flag or something instead. Good luck and have fun! ;D

For what it's worth, you CAN buy little 'disposable' helium tanks at a party supply shop that are supposed to be good for 25 or 30 regular balloons. It should run you around $20 or so and be about half the size of the 20-pounder full of propane that you would hook up to your grill. It even comes in a nice little box saying what it is and everything. Doesn't look a thing like those other tanks they're looking for.
Now how can make your balloons stay afloat for three days in the sun is a whole 'nuther story...I know the mylar balloons are supposed to last better, and I HAVE seen some pretty big ones (for about $7 or $8) I think...
Check out the vending thread (it may be way down, I don't think anybody has posted on it for awhile). Someone was asking if people would buy mylar balloons if he was selling them at 'roo.
Also, I think that usually helium comes in orange tanks and nitrous comes in blue tanks.
