What it would cost
I was curious how much it would cost me to actually go see all of these bands separately. I live in Brooklyn so whenever possible I’ve used the NYC ticket prices for bands currently on tour. When I couldn’t find a NY price I just went with some random other city.
The Police $254.50 Tool $55.00 Widespread Panic $40.00 The White Stripes $49.50 Ben Harper $50.00 Wilco $37.00 Flaming Lips $40.00 Manu Chao $30.00 String Cheese $42/50 Franz Ferdinand N/A Ornette Coleman N/A Ratdog $45.00 Damien Rice $54.50 Ween $26.00 Gov’t Mule N/A Ziggy Marley $27.00 The Decemberists $26.00 The Roots $37.00 Kings of Leon $27.00 Michael Franti $32.00 & Spearhead Wolfmother $30.00 Regina Spektor $23.00 The Black Keys $18.00 Galactic $20.00 DJ Shadow N/A Gillian Welch N/A Spoon $25.00 Keller Williams $27.50 WMD’s Sasha& John $25.00 Digweed STS9 $36.50 Old Crow Medicine $18.50 Show North Mississippi $20.00 Allstars The Hold Steady $18.00 Lily Allen $26.00 Fountains of Wayne $17.00 Hot Tuna $25.00 Feist $30.00 Hot Chip $22.50 John Butler Trio $25.00 El-P $20.00 Ralph Stanley& $35.00 the Clinch Mountain Boys Aesop Rock $22.00 Richard Thompson $28.00 Dierks Bentley $39.50 James Blood Ulmer N/A Xavier Rudd $18.00 David Bromberg $34.50 and his Angel Band Gogol Bordello N/A Junior Brown $25.00 Tortoise $23.00 T-Bone Burnett N/A Mavis Staples $57.50 Clutch $25.00 New Orleans N/A Klezmer All-Stars Cold War Kids $15.00 Dr. Dog $10.00 Paolo Nutini N/A Brazilian Girls $10.00 RX Bandits N/A Nightwatchman $16.00 The Slip $12.00 Girl Talk $15.00 Railroad Earth $15.00 Martha Wainwright N/A Yard Dogs $20.00 Roadshow Rodrigo y Gabriela $25.00 Annuals N/A Tea Leaf Green $25.00 Sam Roberts Band $34.95 The National $15.00 Elvis Perkins in N/A Deerland Charlie Louvin N/A Sonja Kitchell N/A Wild Magnolia N/A Mardi Gras Indians Mute Math $15.00 Apollo Sunshine $20.00 Uncle Earl N/A The Little Ones N/A Black Angels $12.00 Ryan Shaw N/A Favourite Sons $10.00
...for a whopping grand total of----- $$1,877.45 (service charges NOT included)
and this doesn't even include the 18 bands I've yet to find prices for, the cafe acts, the comedy tent, and the countless other entertainment opportunities
If anyone happens to have seen any of the bands I've listed as N/A in the last year or so, and you remember what you paid, feel free to add to the total and increase the Bonnavalue even more.
Basically, just in case anyone needed any more proof, here it is... Bonnaroo is the ultimate deal of the century Yeah, you gotta love the 'Roo!!!!

actually, no it does not include service charges... very good point. I would guess that it would be at least an average of another $10 per act (and that is me being conservative) So with 100 potential acts, tack on another $1000 right there WOW
Often the ticket price for, say, "The Decemberists" includes a couple other opening acts. Usually I see at least three bands per show.
So you could cut that total by a third, generally speaking.
You could however make the argument that all of these bands are main acts and therefore the cost of the show is more skewed towards seeing them, and that's why they receive a larger share of the profit. So it wouldn't be exactly cutting it by a third.

That is another way to look at it, but I didn't include a price for any bands who were listed as openers or only playing festivals... this is a headliner only list
It's funny how people that have never been there grumble about how much money it is, but then when you actually get there you realize it's a small, small price to pay.
i'm going where the sun keeps shining, thru' the pouring rain, going where the weather suits my clothes. backing off of the north east wind, sailing on summer breeze, and skipping over the ocean like a stone.

Yeah, I always think it sucks how ticket prices have steadily increased. Then I get to Roo and realize how trivial the extra $20 really is.
Now you need to find a way to see them all at Roo....
yea, but if you just cant the ones you see, it is still a big deal.
these are just the ones i plan to see full sets: mute math $20 clutch $25 nightwatchman $16 the roots $37 sci $50 tool $55 damien rice $54.50 ben harper $50 the police $254.50 flaming lips $40 wolfmother $30 white stripes $49.50
total $681.50 plus ticketbastard fees $120 total $801.50
now some of these bands may not play their normal full sets. but some have the oppurtunity to play even longer than their usual set. tool could play for 3 hr. if they wanted to and sci if they are late night can play as long as they want. so yea, it's definitely worth it. at least 4 times over.
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
