Yesterday I would have said Dieieieks Bentley was the artist I was LEAST LIKELY to see....BUT I do love some Sam Bush mandolin.
THIS is why I love Bonnaroo...
Sam Bush to join Dierks Bentley's Band as Special Guest
Dierks Bentley tells us that he has some special surprises for the Bonnaroo audience this year. He's being a little evasive about exactly what he has in mind, but we did learn that he's added mandolin madman Sam Bush to his Bonnaroo band, and that definitely means that some musical fireworks are in store. We're pumped to have Sam returning to Bonnaroo this year. Spread the word!
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

dierks bentley is actually a highly acclaimed guitarist and got a lot of his breaks because of his licks, so i'd say this will probably be one of the best shows at roo this year believe it or not. as soon as i saw sam bush added to his band, i gave him the ole' blue highlighter (i printed off the lineup and blue highlighted my "must sees" and pink highlighted my "maybe" bands)

I think this is the show that has the most "upside". Doesn't seem like much is expected out of Dierks Bentley, but this could be one that I'm sad I missed down the road.
Sam is the man. His set in the rain of 04 was the sh*t!
We came upon Sammy after his set was delayed by the power going out during one of the many storms that weekend. We got there expecting to see Doc Watson. Sam came back out after the power was turned back on and played 3 tunes that had us all dancing in the mud. His playing was so hot that his band was grinning ear to ear while he ripped it up. Don't miss Sam, he is amazing!
