I have mentioned on here prior about a lack of jamgrass type bands at 'Roo (perfect outdoor/afternoon entertainment)...now I see that two of those bands Old Crow Med Show and Railroad Earth ar scheduled opposite of each other. I love Roo, but that just seems an obvious scheduling mishap to me.

that does kinda suck, but maybe it has to do with the bands other tour dates? im sure making the schedule is no easy task. all i know is ill be at Old Crow
I have alot of Old Crow that I listen too, but do not think I have ever seen them live. I have seen RRE many times and have actually talked with them after a very intimate show in NC...they are top notch folks. Very excited and grateful to be making music for a living. I actually am pretty excited that they do not have a larger following.
ok so i just found out railroad earth is playing on monday in my hometown.. Now i dunno if i should chance missing them to see ocms and then miss them when i get back because im horrible at time managing. So what u yall think go to railroad earth and hear some good ole bluegrass or go to ocms and hear some more county type blugrass and try to catch the railroad earth show at home when i get back that night..

It's not the worst schedule clusterfuck Roo has ever given us. mMy vte for that would have to go to Sat 2004 latenite. Primus, ween, Tokyo Ska and Robert Randolph and I'm supposed to choose one? Luckilly the rain delayed Primus and we actually got to see most of Primus and all of Ween.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
"Wagon Wheel" is a Bob Dylan song. I haven't heard the original, but the Old Crow version is fucking awesome.
I'm very excited for their show. I would have liked to have seen Dr. Dog or Railroad, but OCMS wasn't a hard choice at all. I'm actually pleased they aren't more conflicted.

Dylan wrote the chorus and chord progression, all the verses OCMS sing are written by them.

Actually, in the minds of superfly it was great scheduling I'm sure because it'll spread fans out a bit more
I totally agree with that. This really helps maintain crowds among the festival grounds. Plus, these are the "pre-headliner" bands, that are generally cosidered too big to play earlier, but are not big enough to headline, so it's no wonder why they do this. It's a pain in the ass, but what can you do.

I can't imagine the headache of trying to schedule all of these bands into one weekend.....if it were any more than a four day festival, I would never be able to get the time off from work....a big thanks to superfly and all the others who make it happen for everyone year after year, I certainly wouldn't want that responsibility (even though starting my own festival would be hella cool... )
I have no conflicts this year, none. I guess the next toughest is Lips vs Galactic, but the Lips are a must see for me, so that's where I'll be. Must sees are: Gillian Welch, Manu Chao, Tool, SCI, Crow/RRE, WEEN, The Police, The Lips, White Stripes. Sooooooo......where's my conflict?
Thank God Old Crow is playing Norfolk the Wednesday after Roo. I'll be at RRE. This would have been the biggest conflict for me all weekend.
Really?
I mean, I dig OCMS, and I'm not knocking anyone's taste in music...but OCMS/RRE would have been the biggest conflict for you? That's incredible.
what does taste in music have to do with conflicts?
you do sound like you are knocking on his taste b/c he really doesn't have any conflicts with the scheduling of his MUST SEE'S. roolacksreality is right. he is one of the fortunate ones. i mean, i have a few conflicts myself and boy do i wish i had it as easy as riggin does.
someone sounds like they have a "headier than thou" complex.

I'm having the same problem with The Roots and Lily Allen...been a fan of the Roots for a long time but never seen them live and am a new fan of Lily Allen and would love to see her as well....oh well...I'll just try to do both i guess...
I haven't heard much of either but I also need to choose one. Both are bluegrass, but in what ways are they different? Is one more upbeat than the other? Is one more traditional? Are the crowds/atmospheres any different? Someone throw me a bone here, it is a tough decision because I've never seen either band...
For some this is not a conflict b/c this may not suit their tastes, but if you like the blugrass/jamgrass scene then these two are all you get at 'roo and to schedule them at the same time is very odd. I think that roo needs more of these types of bands, just great outdoor, summer, barefoot dancin' music. I am certainly not bashing those that put the sched together, b/c there are BOUND to be conflicts, but scheduling these two at the same time seems to be a rather obvious oversight. I forget who was playing at the same time SCI is, but that will be a conflict for me too. But hey, I am going to have a blast anyways!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
