IMO. Its a draw. These bands are far to different to compare. Yet so much alike at the same time. This is like comparing The Beatles to Led Zeppelin. No debate from me, i hate the who's better than who BS.
I've always related Tool and Radiohead. Not sure why. I actually knew Tool first (my dad got Aenima when it came out), but when I got the internet in 2000, I quickly discovered Radiohead. I now like Radiohead much more (especially Jonny Greenwood). Tool's new album was a little "meh" for me, although it has it's moments. I'm not too excited about seeing them live, but I'll probably end up right at the front of the stage (since I'm seeing the 2 bands before them on the main stage), and I'll probably be blown away. For Radiohead I was quite far away. But really, something about their music seems very similar to me. I relate it like: Pablo Honey = Undertow (both fairly mainstream with nice moments), OK Computer/Kid A = Aenima (Masterpieces), Amnesiac = Lateralus (an ok follow up), and Hail to the Thief = 10,000 Days (a little bit of a let down with some good moments). I guess with that The Bends = Opiate EP. Or something Anyways, they just feel really similar when I listen to them even though I guess in their sound and structure they're quite different. I'm not the only one who's thought this though, I've met others who thought the same thing, and I know many people who are Radiohead and Tool fans. I just think Maynard is a bit more of a wanker than Thom (and I say this knowing people who were good friends with Maynard when he lived in my town).

Both bands should become friends and just join into one super uber awesome band...they could be called Radiotool...or Toolhead. I think I like Toolhead better.
But seriously, they're both amazing...however.....I could listen to Radiohead everyday for the rest of my life and not tire of it. Radiohead is the ultimate, they're what every band should strive to be in terms of performance, composition, etc.
I like both bands, but am a bigger fan of Radiohead. My wife is a bigger Tool fan. I was looking forward to Radiohead last year more than I am to Tool this year, but both were my primary reason for going each year.
Tool and Radiohead are my #1 and #4 favorite bands, respectfully.
QWE, I think you compared their albums well. But I disagree with your conclusions on them. I guess it's a matter of taste, but I think both of their last albums are also their best.
I have the same birthday as thom yorke. oh yeah!! haha, but I think they are too different to compare. You might be able to relate them but finding differences is just that...differences. You can't day one does something better when they are doing two different things. But having said that....radiohead is just not comparable to anyone, for me at least.

I am a HUGE Tool fan but the 1 time I got to see Radiohead it blew me away. Still my favorite show I have seen (besides Dave Matthews & Friends in 2003).
comparing them. . . radiohead is my favorite band (last year at roo was the best musical performance in human history, imo), while tool used to be in my top three (10 years ago: radiohead, tool, weezer: summed up my musical taste). my taste has moved more to the soft psychedelic side, and i really can't get into 10,000 days. it feels awkward to me. if they had kept the aenima thing going, they would probably still be one of my favorites.
i feel that tool is more overtly spiritual, while thom from radiohead is the far superior song writer. i don't know. i just feel like tool kind of lost "it" after aenima, while radiohead has kept moving in the right direction.
the thing is -- they're both bands that grab you by the testes and don't let go. you don't need to think about the music -- the music is your thought -- that is, if you have the volume turned up enough.
