anyone else dealing with the Decemberists/Wilco/Feist conflict? everyone in my group is a little freaked about it. i mean, there's definitely some overlap time to allow for jumping around to see some of all of them, but still. how are you dealing with it? any suggestions on who to see the bulk of? i've never seen any of them live and am kind of just really getting into all three, though i love what ive heard across the board. i feel like they'd all be very good live for different reasons (though wilco is leaning towards the must-see of the group for me). anyone care to weigh in?

of those 3, wilco is my choice, the others aren't really for me.
whenever I come across overlaps that make me go crazy I just try to see a little of everything. looking at the set times you can pretty much catch about an hour of each, so as far as confilcts go this doesn't seem too bad.
once you get there everything will work itself out and if you miss something you wanted to see its usually because you can't tear yourself away from an incredible set that you won't regret watching anyway!
I don't know if it was an aberration, but I saw Wilco at Langerado last year, and while they played very well, and had a nice set list, it was just kinda flat. Very little crowd interaction or improvisation going on. Might as well listen to the cd.
And I'm I huge Wilco fan, so it pains me to say it.
I'll still catch the beginning of their set, and see where it goes from there. Maybe drift over to the Decembrists.
I don't think that Wilco is a very good outdoor festival band. They sound much better indoors.
The bigger conflict is Wilco/Feist/White Stripes for me. I don't have any interest in seeing the Decemberists. I'll probably catch the beginning of Wilco, go to most of Feist, and then head on over to the White Stripes.
Thanks for the input guys. and yeah, I realize that going with the flow is all part of the experience, I can't plan to the minute exactly how long I'll stay at each of them, just gotta see what happens. The schedule sure helps, but I'm getting the impression that the unpredicatability is just part of the beauty of the roo. Ahhhhicantwait!

I was at Langerado last year and loved Wilco's set, so I'm sorta perplexed by your calling it flat, maybe you weren't in the right mood? You may be right about the crowd, but I put that on them not the band. Let's hope for a great roo performance, and if not there's always Ornette & NMAS!!

sounds like a clutch decision (not the band Clutch) It depends on whether you can settle to see partial sets. If so, you could see half of two of those bands. If you want complete sets, you'll have to pick. I choose based on a lot of factors, generally if I've seen one of them, I'll go w/ the one I havent see. If I don't like it as much as I thought I would I fall back on the show I know I'll enjoy and head over there.
For that particular time, its no contest for me: Junior Brown and Ornette Coleman.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

i'll be seeing the entire wilco set, i started listening to them about 4 years ago and have never been able to see them live, something always comes up so i'm looking forward to finally see them. i'm really disappointed about missing Feist tho, she's awesome

Personally, I'm conflicted between Ralph Stanley and the Decemberists.... but now that I think of it, my plan of heading over to see Wilco a little after they start may be co-opted for getting a decent spot at the White Stripes... agh... I think I ought to not plan anything out too much... just do things as they come up.

i'm gonna catch an hour of the decemberists, then head over to wilco for their full set, then head over to the white stripes for their full set. what a way to end a GREAT weekend.

I've seen the Decemberists 4 times, and they don't disappoint, though I'm not going to be seeing them at the Roo because they don't change their set up very much. Don't get me wrong, they put on a great show, but the first time I saw them was probably the best because of all of the cool quirks and what not.
I don't care for Feist, though one of my good friends is obsessed with her. I'll be at at Wilco for a while, and then heading over to get a decent spot for the Stripes, which is going to kill (Jack will BRING IT!).

I'm gonna watch the entirety of The Decemberists then catch the rest of Wilco. I gotta catch the Decemberists end of their set, it's gonna be a blast I'm sure
Never been into Wilco at all. Feist will get my nod and then I'll depart a little early to get set up for White Stripes and then depart that early for WSP.
Wilco all the way I've heard that the Decemberists aren't that great live, plus they'll probably tour some more this summer so I'm sure I can catch them again...
I've already seen the decemberists in Boston. They were really really good, but I agree with a few posters who have heard that the performances are usually the same. Can't really beat screaming at a guy in a huge whale costume though.
I also agree that it is important, very important to be at wilco and preparing to get down with jack white.

Honestly, I've seen Wilco and the Decemberists both live before.
Wilco was great indoors, lackluster outdoors, but I love them so I'll probably see at least part of their show.
The Decemberists were outstanding live, and I wouldn't miss a second of their show. I honestly left that show overwhelmed with their musicianship. I think they will be one of the best sets of the weekend.

The entire magical Decemberists set then over to Wilco. Wilco isn't necessarly a band that you have to be close to to enjoy so showing up a half hour late and jamming in the back isn't so bad (these are bands #1 and #3 that I need to see, this conflict sucks, but could be worse)
I can't believe people are saying Wilco isn't a good live band anymore. They are one of the best live bands around. Nels Cline is an incredible guitarist. I might just park myself down in front of him and watch him play. He does things with the guitar that shouldn't even be possible.
Though the decemberists are one of my favorite bands, so I'll be trying to see whatever I can of their set. But Wilco's a priority (they are my favorite band.)
