I'm at work listening to the radio and Black Dog comes on. Following the song, the radio DJ announces this, and I quote:
"John Paul Jones, the bassist of Led Zeppelin is scheduled to perform at this year's Bonnaroo music festival in Manchester, TN. He's expected to play with a bunch of unusual musicians including Ben Harper, the drummer from The Roots, as well as a hip hop artist of some sort and a few other surprise appearances. It seems like it should be a fun Bonnaroo for all those fans"
Is this just a radio DJ screw up or do you think it's possible that Aesop Rock or El P could guest appear with this group after their sets? I can't imagine what it would sound like, but the thought is pretty intriguing. I'm thinking it's more likely the DJ just messed up, but then again... it's Roo, so who knows!?

Black Thought is one of the more respected hip hop artists out right now, so that is definitely a good possibility for that happening. This is starting to get pretty exciting guys, we are so close.

Actually, shortly after this blurb on the radio station the DJ did go straight into mentioning that Morello was also performing, but I had assumed that was the Nightwatchman set, cause she also mentioned Tool and other bands playing the Roo. It is prettly likely that Morello jumps on stage though i think.
I've never heard this Black Thought fellow, I'm guessing it's worth checking out?
Black Thought is the lead singer/MC of The Roots. I see one of two possibilities here, he either confused the drummer from The Roots with the hip/hop guy, and he was really referring to the same person (i.e. ?uestlove), or there really is going to be an MC (which would be crazy)

Well if you have listened to any Roots albums you have heard him. Black Thought and Questlove are the founding members of The Roots. So if you like The Roots then you will like Black thought.

Well, if that's word-for-word, he might have assumed Ben Harper is the drummer from the Roots, and ?uestlove would be the "hip hop guy." Just maybe, but I still think it's very likely that Black Thought could be there, since obviously The Roots aren't touring...they couldn't play without ?uestlove.

I don't think most local radio jocks get much more info on things that can't be found out by the general public. He probably just does not know much about the Roots.
Actually saw a interesting post recently on the Okayplayer message boards (the Roots Web ste). ?uestlove made a post about a few shows they had with Black Thought missing (he had some sort of surgery on his throat) and he said that the band is formed in a way that they can still play if any member was missing, even BT or ?uest.

I was just using that as an example, but that's awesome. Did he specifically say that he himself could be replaced?
I guess a lot of people would be mad that you contradicted them, but I ain't with that...that's cool as hell, that he was saying anyone could guest with them if another person couldn't play.
Honestly, it gives me just as much hope for the superjam, since I know ?uest could play with just about anyone. BonnaROOOOO!!!

aint like niggas planned to dupe mofos out of a show.
we are THE most professional organization in hip hop.
PERIOD.
if it was me and kirk alone....
we'd make you forget the other 6 were missing.
im just saying there is a difference tween
false advertisement and not delivering.
i mean malik aint show up (a roots member) but you will still attest that some of THE BEST entertainment you EVER seen in you life came courtesy of this show correct?
i programmed this show so that NO ONe member of the roots can hold us hostage.
including
tariq AND me.
might be weird...
might be shakey....
but damn if we stop and mofos start booing cause we gypped them. I was just using that as an example, but that's awesome. Did he specifically say that he himself could be replaced?
Man I want to hear some rockin out. If JPJ starts up and they start rapping, I will look at it as him following Jimmy Page's step with Puffy Daddy, which I didn't enjoy.
