I've seen the Flips in NYC and they gave out lasers there too, but this was way more amazing between the UFO and all. Definitely one of my favorite shows of the weekend.
soo i really think it was awesome they learned Moonlight Mile by the Rolling Stones it really made my night... Anyone else suprised by them playing this...
First I must say I am a huge Lips fan. I was very disappointed in the show. If I knew Wayne was going to be the electronic version of the Night Watchman I would have opted for the"Mule. It seemed like there was a diatribe between every song and it got old. I thought the Rant stage was the proper place for this stuff and hopefully Wayne will set that on his agenda if there is a next time. Musically they were great but left the show feeling very depressed and frustated esp. when my buddies who seen Mule had told me who guested. Richard Thompson's "Dad's going to kill me " put more into perspective about war than any other artist I witnessed at Roo. And he didn't rant before or after. War is bad and it takes multiple sides to make war. Maybe we can get the Flips to take the UFO to Iraq and convince the other side to make peace instead of just preaching/singing to the choir.

Wow, thanks for smiting me for my voicing my opinion. The show was a let down. The UFO thing was boring as hell. Wayne rambled and said the same nuts over and over, his voice sounded like crap, and yeah no one was into it because they would play a song, Wayne would ramble, and ramble and they would finally play another song. What he was saying may have been coherent, but it was stupid and trite. Does anyone really care what he thinks about the war???? No, because no one went to a political rally; people went to see them play music. There was a reason the show started out packed as hell and then there was tons of room to wander and it was not because of how late it was. The music did not go anywhere; any momentum they would have from playing a good song would be squashed from the long pauses between songs. The "sing a longs" that you mentioned did not exist. Wayne would cuss at people to sing, no one would sing, and then we would sit there and wait. I was incredibly excited about this show and was terribly let down. Smite away.
Personally, I thought it was great to hear somebody talking about the war. Made the show just that much better for me.

Yeah crazy right? I felt like noody around me even recognized the song. Wayne has great taste. I'll admit to being disappointed about a dearth of floyd covers at the roo (zeppelin was everywhere ths year presumably partially tnaks to JPJ presence) and i really thought the Flips might bust on out. But moonlight mile is really a beautiful song. And it s age from an album on whch almost everything else is insanely well -known, making it all the more cool.
"...well yeah the guitar is good accompaniment but you can't like compose with it; I mean you can't base a whole song around the guitar." -Bob Dylan 1965
I absolutely loved this show and would certainly classify it as a life-changing moment for me. Probably the most beautiful musical experience I've ever had.
After reading EVERYONE's posts on how great the show was I am totally sorry that I missed it this year. I'm watching now from the downloaded AT&T stuff that has been archived. Its such a great show.

The whole show was excellent. The high point was definitely "Sleeping on a Roof" during the encore. Came out of nowhere.
I will concede that some songs did sound a little stale, but "Sleeping on a Roof" was beautiful in every way. I still see that pulsating green eye in my dreams.
I was also quite moved by the Taps rendition. Made up for or at least gave some emotional backbone to his rants.

^^^^^^^ I don't think they played Sleeping on the Roof. Do you mean "The Observer?" (The instrumental after What is The Light). I was thrilled that they played both of these.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

Does anyone know ehre I could download the whole webcast rip of the show? I have found partial files in a few places, but I'm sure there has to be the full recording out there somewhere.
I'm sorry, but i have to disagree 100%. Wayne rambled way too much, musically it never got going, crowd was not into at all. I was terribly disappointed with what I saw and after the show I made my way over to the Mule and had a far better time.
I'm afraid I'll have to second that emotion. The music was fine, but it was so packed that I couldn't move, and boy did I need to move that night. I ran out of that show and sprinted to the Mule show. It was nuts

I loved it!!! One of my top Bonnaroo moments ever. I'm sad because I had to leave though. I have a bad back and standing in that crowd about killed me....I did get the experience though, which was enough for me

I didn't get to see the Lips, which bummed me out for days. They are my fav band and I've seen them twice, but my back was friggin' killing me and I had to sit down in order to see the show. With all of the people there, I couldn't find a spot to sit. We had to go back to our camp and listen to the show from there.
Why, oh why were they not on the What Stage???????

That is a question I wondered ever since I saw how huge of a crowd was there just to see their sound check. My only thought is that the Which Stage was more condusive to their set up with the UFO and whatnot, but who knows... i'm sure they could've made that work at the What Stage somehow

They should have the Lips and the White Stripes on the What Stage, not really sure what they were thinking when they planned either of those. The Which stage was pretty much full back to the bleachers well over an hour before both of their shows.
I thought the Lips show was a lot of fun, it dragged a bit a times but overall a great experience. It was not my favorite show I have seen of theirs though. I took some pretty sweet videos of the show and just uploaded them to youtube, check them out below:
