[quote author=freshcity board=music thread=1185947372 post=1186129780p.s. Their were some really nasty Rage fans at the show which would totally stick out at Roo in a bad way. [/quote]
Yeah. I hate to stereotype, but RATM fanatics tend to suck to be around at their live shows.
Consider this. There are RATM fans all over the USA, right? And there's more than just a few, right? On their current tour, how many gigs have they played that have been in the South-East? ZERO. I would not be suprised at all if a boatload of not a very nice person fans from all over the region of the country headed to Bonnaroo for the sole purpose of seeing Rage. It would definately happen if Rage played 'Roo.
However, the way it looks right now I wouldn't be shocked if they made up an actual schedule of venues to play around the states, in which case it wouldn't be that bad. But since RATM is booked for Vegoose, there is not a doubt in my mind that Superfly won't book them for 'Roo as well, being that they put a lot of effort into keeping the line up new and diverse.
Actually, Superfly does double-book 'Roo and 'Goose....just usually that they bring back acts from 'Roo to 'Goose, not the other way around....(TP last year etc) but I also think that doing back-to-back with Rage would be a big stretch. And Rage is playing VooDoo in New Orleans which I would consider a SE venue, so we'll see. I'll let ya know how obnoxious it gets
But yes, if you get to the front at a RATM show, you are asking for moshing and surfing.....no matter WHERE the concert is! It's just the music, hell I can't listen to rage without pumping my fists and wanting to jump around, that's why it's on all my workout lists ;D And I only put it on in the car when I'm on the interstate otherwise I'd be doing 90 through my neighborhood.... Then again, I almost got killed at the White Stripes at 'Roo this year from moshers and surfers....but that just happened to be where I was standing....wasn't bad everywhere. Didn't ruin my experience. I expected some of it. I think that's the key. I would LOVE to be right in front of Morello at VooDoo...but not in the middle of the mosh pit or crushed against the rails so I'll be in a safer zone where I can enjoy it and see it all (hopefully) on the screens. Try to be one of the sterotypical rage fanatics that doesn't sux too bad
I think it will be interesting to see what happens with Rage at Vegoose. I think that will make a bigger impact on whether Rage will ever play 'Roo than anything else.
I don't see the sterotypical Rage fan shelling out $200 for tix
Ahh....the tix for Rage last weekend were $100 and $250....and they sold more of em than Bonnaroo sells.
Also, compare them to Tool all you want....it's not the same...I PROMISE you that a few signs asking politely that Rage fans don't mosh aren't going to do a damn thing.
I know Superfly recently bought the site in order to make some permanent improvements...unless a hospital is one of those improvements....Rage is a really bad idea!
Rage at Bonnaroo...gimmie a break...who's on Which Stage that evening? Slayer?

It's not out of the realm of possibility, but considering Rage has headlined Coachella, Voodoo, and Vegoose all this year, I would think it's more likely that they do not retread that tire next year.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

if they did play it would have the same affect tool did "there gonna ruin roo" "there fans are assh0les" "mosh pits blah blah blah" then after the show "wow that was the best show this year"or "that was some funky sh!T i was so wrong". i dont see them playing both goose and roo
I just can't seem to get the point across that they are not the same as Tool...they're much bigger and attract a much dumber crowd.
Rage fits the Bonnaroo vibe about as much as a Bush/Cheney rally would...lots of people enjoy both...but neither fits Bonnaroo.
I do get your point. Rage is not Tool. I agree. Rage is bigger than Tool. Agreed. Rage attracts dumber fans...eh...I'll float you that one even (taking no offense as one of said "fans" )
My point: Bonnaroo is bigger than any single band that plays there. I personally don't believe that ANY band (or said band's fans) is(are) capable of RUINING Bonnaroo. You are saying the opposite, that Rage IS too big for Bonnaroo...there's a thread for that I think.....I just happen to disagree......

Oh, right. I forgot about Voodoo fest. Well, I'll bet a whole bunch of people will go just for them....even though I think there are better bands on that line up.

No offense to Morello, but at least 90% of the overflowing crowd at The Night Watchman wasn't there to hear his cliche take on retro folk music. I think the fact that the audience exploded when he riffed into Guerrilla Radio proves there's plenty of Bonnaroo-ers that'd love to see the full band playing the What stage after dark....

(forewarning mass Rage smiters) I am sorry guys Rage is not a bigger band than Tool IN MY HONEST OPINION. Tool is by far a better fit then rage would at bonnaroo (hell I do not even call Tool a metal band, for heavens sake they are progressive, psychadelic rock with an affinity for heavier riffs at times) If rage did not go away for 6-7 years they would not have the buzz they have right now. Do not get me wrong rage is good, but I would not give my right kidney to see them live. Now Pink Floyd or Zeppelin I might have to reconsider, but rage....nahhhhh. Now lets see how low my karma goes from this opinion.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
yea, i know i started a thread about will tool change the roo ... and some said it didnt, but some said , yes it did .. so things change ... we are going to see ratm at vegoose and we saw tool at bonnaroo, so should be interesting ... cr****

LOL! Now why would anyone smite you for that honest - and very reasonable - opinon? I'll give you karma for it and I am one of the biggest Rage fans on this board! ;D One of the best things about music - and Bonnaro IMHO - is that we all like something different and like to share it And ditto on the Floyd btw!

I think that was Bombtrack he riffed into, most of the crowd didn't recognize the acoustic Guerilla Radio till he went into the chorus - "turn that sh*t up!" LOL!
RATM aren't bigger than Tool. RATM are heavier and way more energetic though. I know most "tradidtional" Bonnarooers wouldnt think so, but I think Bonnaroo is evolving into an all-around music fest rather than a "jam band" fest, in which case, I think Rage Against the Machine would be GREAT for. In my opinion, Rage Against the Machine's music embodies everything that a good music festival stands for. Dynamic, energetic, intelligent, rebellious music.
I started this thread, but I never really expressed an opinion about it. I think it would be very cool to see Rage at the 'Roo. I don't think their fans are dumb, but they are definitely more hyperactive than Tool's or most anybody else's fans. I really believe they will do a full blown tour next summer. Audioslave being done and it being an election year. So It probably won't be a case of fans coming to 'Roo just for Rage.
And as for who is bigger Rage or Tool, I'd have to give a slight edge to Rage. No empirical evidence to back it up , but if anyone wanted to research, you could compare airplay, album sales, ticket sales and the like.
Back at ya Aly..... I won't comment on my supposed "cool", but I would point out that this whole "My band can kick your band's ass" thing is a bit silly.
Yeah, I love both Tool and RATM, bigger Rage fan than Tool, but still love them both....don't know how the whole competition thing started, it was just a "Tool is NOT Rage" somehow turned into "Tool is BETTER" then "No, Rage is BETTER".... ???
How bout we just have Wayne Newton headline Bonnaroo 2008 and call it quits? ;D No controversy there, Right???
