I love these people that flat out say that they won't go to Roo because of ONE band being there that they don't want to see. Forget the other bands that will be there, because of the 2 hours of the headliner on ONE night you people are not going to go? Take a nap during their set and rest up for the late night set.

Well, you're assuming everyone doesn't live near a major festival already. With more festivals popping up every year, it's not like Bonnaroo is the only game in town.
Yes, the best thing about Roo is the format. But if the lineup and the crowd complexion change that drastically, I'm more than willing to put my festival dollars in ACL or Sasquatch or even wait until Vegoose. I think a festival where Zeppelin AND Metallica are headliners changes those two elements in a major, major way. And I'd probably skip it.

Look on the bright side...more tix for you.
Understandable in a way, but Roo is unlike any other festival in the states. Nothing compares. But A) it's Led f**king Zeppeling and B) Even if you don't think you like Metallica, seeing one of their live shows (especially a possible Legendary Bonnaroo set) is something to experience.
Unfortunately (kinda) I can not go to Roo this year because I am going to Glastonbury. I will somehow see Zeppelin though even if it is not at Roo. i doubt they will be at Glastonbury.

I really hope they don't try this again if they play Roo...
Cringe inducing...
My friend who is always trying to get me into 'new' Metallica gave me that concert on CD Listening to it was was beyond any other Metallica train wreck ever before... I would never do this to any music, but I actually got a strong urge to BURN it so I could watch it slowly melt into a pulp... my God, that CD is awful
Serioulsly, I LIKE the 1st 4 albums a lot, a solid part of my teen years, seen'em three times in the 90's they were always great, but at Roo? That's just plain weird I choose not to believe it

i told this before, but i have a special place for Metallica in my music shows from that one tour with G and R where like 25 of us won a contest and we were in the middle of the stage and the guys played the whole show running around us .. lars poured a beer down my gut during one song ... and this was in mile high stadium so there might have been 70k people there ... so i always like them because of that ... canx**

GADZOOKS!
Mettalica and Zepplin yikes cock rock to the extreme. I can understand Tool and Zepplin but Mettalica? Dear god.
Not even good Metal, terrible vibe at least Tool is psychedelic, metallica is just loud. Not to mention they are the equivalent of Nazi Rockers (does anyone rember Napster Vs Mettalica?)
I hope this doesn't happen. I'm all about going to a festival and not liking the headliners (especially if the festival in question is Bonnaroo) but this is not the direction I hope Bonnaroo is taking. Way too commercial (not that Zepplin, The Police, Radiohead, DMB and Neil Young weren't); its just not the right vibe for a festival like Bonnaroo.
Were talking about a band that has an album called Kill Em All lol (which oddly enough is sitting on my desk, on cassette, found in the garbage of a neighbor)

I love people that talk about the 'Napster' thing like they know what theyre talking about.
People hate Metallica because they were "against music sharing".
No, Metallica was NOT against general music sharing. This is a huge misconception. They had beef with Napster because they allowed UNRELEASED MUSIC (mainly unmastered and unfinished versions of what would eventually be St. Anger tracks) to be circulated. Their beef was that they didn't want their music that they were STILL WORKING ON to be released to the public. Metallica's suit had nothing to do with their pre-existing records or concert recordings, or anything other than unreleased versions of tracks. They didn't want their tracks to be released before they were finished, or ready.
But it's the reason everyone hates Metallica.
...that, and the train-wreck of an album that was St. Anger. But thats understandable.

I'm kinda scared to say this, the mad smiter might be here... But.. Ive heard that the New Metallica Album is supposed to go back to the "roots of metal" and they did get a new producer, or one that they used to have???... anybody else know anything?

I don't want to hijack the thread but correct me if I'm wrong.
Was it not the demo tracks circulating; so much so that they wound up on the radio that brought Napster to the attention of Mettalica? Once they got on Napster they saw the number of their albums being shared.
In turn they asked to be removed from the server. So much that they even gave usernames to block, because these users had Mettalica tracks.
So in this sense Mettalica had a problem with the whole peer to peer file sharing concept. No?

Rick Ruben has replaced Bob Rock (long time collaborator) as the producer for this new album. He basically in so many words told Metallica that it was time for them to make another "Master of Puppets". He basically meant it is time to do something as groundbreaking and as brilliant as that album.
St. Anger really didn't do much for me (or anyone else for that matter) but after listening to it again after some time I realized it actually is a pretty damn good Metal album. There really hasn't been anything done like that before or anything at the time at least that sounded like it. It's definatly not a drive in your car and rock album, but listen to it when you are working out and it'll get you going.

I have a feeling this next album being produced by Rubin will be fantastic, but with that said, I still never want them at Bonnaroo.
I think we're also burping on the idea of Metallica Headlining. If Pearl Jam and Zepp are there, Metallica will not be a headliner. I am certainly not ecstatic about Metallica being there if it's true, but then again I'm also not a fan of 1/4 of Roo's music. I won't not go to Roo over the presence of a band or nine. I'll GO to Roo because of a band or nine.
I take all of these rumors with a huge grain of salt. I mean when I looked at Roo's Wiki this time last year to see who may play for 2007, the line up was totally different when it was officially announced. Also I didn't understand why a lot of people were upset about the "wrong crowd" that Tool would attract. I mean, I know they have some crazy metal head and goth fans that could cause trouble at Bonnaroo, but Tool seems to attract more intellectual folk than . I can see how Metallica would attract unwanted people to Roo.
I will still attend but wont be catching Metallica, I'd rather catch someone more interesting and avoid the massive "penguin walk" back to my camp site.

Think about it. Do you really think Metallica is gonna do a 6:30 - 7:00 set for 2 hours and then Zep or PJ will come on after that? If all of these rumors are true you do Metallica on Friday, Zep on Sat, and PJ on Sun.
I can't think of a band more out of step with the Bonnaroo ethos than Metallica. If this happens, I really think it's a big step in the wrong direction for the fest.
here's my feeling on the metallica issue... Metallica has been in the soundtrack to alot of our lives. You at one time either listened to them because you liked them, listened to piss off your parents or just listened because they were on radio or something.
Bonnaroo is alot like the soundtrack to our lives. It's expansive and all together encompassing in most aspects. Unless you've pigeon-holed yourself into strictly jam-bands or strictly rock bands or strictly hip hop bands, then go to Bonnaroo and enjoy all of those bands. Maybe even throw a little techno in there too... then stop by an arcade, play some video games, eat some pizza... act like a kid again...
^ I love the diversity of music at Bonnaroo. I have no problem with them bringing in some metal bands, but I think there's a lot better metal out there than Metallica. Someone like Mastodon would be great. Personally, they were never a soundtrack to my life. I usually turned the station if they came on the radio...

someone i know who is privy to music industry rumors told me this weekend to expect alison krauss. one more thing to fuel the zeppelin rumor, i think if she's there zep will be there.
