just fell in love with these guys last year (like hoodoo said, an acquired taste.) truly an amazing rock band...innovative and old school at the same time... only seen one live show at lollapalooza 07...but i'd give anything to see them again...

I have another live show available for everyone's enjoyment in the Sharing Music thread in the What Tent if anyone is interested. It's no Okonokos, but comes damn close
I got the Okonokos dvd... it held my interest for a little bit, but i suppose it's an aquired test.... if there was no one else i wanted to see playing at the same time, i would go see MMJ though...
I was a fan of theirs for a long time, then when I finally got a chance to see them live at the Electric Factory in 06, they immediately became my favorite band. I missed their epic show at Roo '06 cause of work and my friends didn't go see them despite me begging them too (they didn't even go to anything that night, which is insane in itself), and I think there's a little part of me missing that I won't ever get back. Luckily I caught them at Lollapalooza this year in probably another once in a lifetime show, short but sweet and the youth symphony was awesome, especially for Dance Floors and the Move On Up Cover. For anyone who doesn't know anything about them, I would go in reverse chronological order, starting at Okonokos then going down to Z, It Still Moves, At Dawn, then Tennesee Fire. Also listen to "Cobra" from Chocolate and Ice EP, probably their most epic song.
I am sure that drugs has a lot to do with it. I mean, music sounds so much better when you're stoned.
I like them, they remind me of another band from a while back but I just can't put my finger on it.
Anyway they're also from my town so it's nice to see local bands do well too.
LOL! This is so true. Though, most of the time when you listen to new music you might be trying to just jump into the music and trying to "love it." chrisaroo is right though, there are ways of focusing your attention to music.
i filled the cd player with all MMJ and been trying to improv with my new banjo and hand percussion.. man they really know how to jam out, by far my favorite group..
I saw them at Roo in '06. I was with a couple guys who wanted to check them out, so I was like, "I'll watch a couple songs, but then I'm heading over to Umphrey's." A couple songs turned into 1 1/2 sets. They blew me away. Anyone who hasn't seen them, should at least see them once.
i was introduced to mmj at roo 04 and after seeing them live a couple times i can honestly say they're my *second* favorite band (it's gonna hafta take one hell of a band to knock wilco out of first place for me)
well, you ask me why i'm drunk all the time it levels my head and eases my mind i just walk along and stroll and sing i see better days and i do better things

honestly at acl when they were plaing against each other i still went for jacket. tweedy solo could have interupted that but as of late the wilco flag has fallen to half mast. mmj is an effin religious experience.
To be so honest, the first time I heard MMJ, I couldn't believe why my hubby and his friends loved them so much. I thought they must have smoked something weird because I thought they were all nuts...... THAT BEING SAID, Then I listened to them, it only took several go overs of the cd and I was hooked. Now we got the DVD its my FAV thing to do when ummm I wanna go tripping! hahaha That of course and STS9. So I suggest as I have in the past about the Band Joseph Arthur. when I heard JA for the first time, I thought the guys again were taking too many non lisenced pharmaceuticals. Then JA grew on me too to the point where I'm in love now!!
"MMJ just finished recording its next studio album in New York with frontman Jim James and Joe Chiccarelli (the White Stripes, the Shins) co-producing. The band hopes for a June release, then will tour in the United States, as well as the United Kingdom and Europe.
The band will perform at this year's South by Southwest event in Austin, Texas, for the first time since 2002, and James will do an acoustic show in addition to the full-band set. Other U.S. dates are being booked.
On a panel at the Billboard Touring Conference last November, talent buyer Charles Attal of C3 Presents (Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits) named MMJ as a band that could break big in 2008. ''My Morning Jacket has just great songwriting, great hooks and an overall sound that translates live,'' Attal said. "

While it is almost an absolute given that MMJ will be supporting the release of this new album with an appearance at Roo '08, this article encourages me that SF/AC might go all wild and give Jim and the boys a headlining spot. They have certainly earned it.

Maybe, but only if they get Zep.
