yea i figured everyone would be opposed. but you do have to give kanye some credit. while there are much better mc's out there i dont know if there are that many hip-hop producers as talented. if you listen to his songs you can really tell how much more time he puts into making them compared to all the other mainstream hip-hop artists. thats what i like about him.... but as far as other rap acts go i would enjoy mos def...
on a side note i just bought "graduation" the other day. i was reading the people he credited under "stronger" and Daft Punk is not mentioned once! ha ha

Kanye Who?
wu-tang, ratm and public enemy!
exactly.
Heck yes!
Wu-tang's new cd is AMAZING.
Hip hop at it's best... really.
I would be so stoked to see them at Roo.
Since they didn't show up for Voodoo 06.
I had heard from someone working the PS2 stage they were supposed to perform on that their management accidentaly double booked them, so they opted for the other show instead of freaking Voodoo.

I was crushed.
Im not sure if I could do WU w/o ODB I saw them in '97 with Rage...it just wouldn't be the same.
I think maybe a couple of members would be cool...but not all of the remaining ones.
Daft Punk can play and Kanye comes out during the set and they do Stronger together and then Kanye leaves. And maybe Jamie Foxx can be in the comedy tent and Kanye comes out, they do Golddigger and Jamie goes back to comedy and Kanye leaves.
maybe instead of Kanye we will get Madlib doing some Lord Quas with guests, imo Madlib is a much better producer and emcee than Kanye and I think his "from the street yet avant garde" sound would fit better at roo

I saw Kanye at Coachella. I would much rather have Atmosphere. Or MF Doom. Or MURS.
I would definitely rather have Atmosphere, MF Doom or MURS. I saw MURS this summer at Rock the Bells concert in Cali. I didn't get to see his whole set, but what I did see was good.
I like kanye's new cd. I almost wish I didn't because he as a person annoys the hell out of me. He is a good rapper and i'd most likely see him if he played, but there are other hip hop acts that can definitely fill his slot.

Nerdgrrl, Karma for mentioning a Fugees reunion. If'd I knew they'd actually play and L. Hill wouldn't get drunk, fall down, or go home I'd prefer that to a Led Zeppelin reunion.
A lot of music is a preference, but I prefer his flow and word play to most. The Def Jux guys, all of their songs just flow the same to me. But I thought Graduation was weak.
I love Kanye and I think he would be a great non-headlining act. I've seen him thrice and he's put on a great show every time. I have to agree that I would rather see Wu Tang(who I coincidentally saw last night in Mobile, AL), Common, or The Roots, or Wyclef but I would still like Mr. West to make an appearance at roo.
I love Kanye, think Graduation is a great album, and would love to see him on the Roo lineup. I'd prefer him to most of the acts that have been mentioned in this thread (PE would be the amazing, Snoop or Jay-Z would be cool, about on the same level as Kanye for me).
That said, I've never seen him live and wouldn't set my expectations too high if I got the chance (based on the extremely mixed results I've gotten from live rap/hip-hop over the years). I'd be very (pleasantly) surprised to see him in the line-up.
I'm still undecided on this one. There are ton more people I would rather have than him. Doom (eff .. the entire Stones Throw krew for that matter),Gza,Rza,Ghostface ... but if it came down to him or say... nevermind I just made my mind up. No. Give me Ghostface.
there you go. even if he does play roo, you don't have to go to his show cause i just played it for you.
uh huh, yea.
i'm sure i'll get smote for my opinion but i stand by it.
Personally I love kanye west, but his large EGO and some of his hits are quite mainstream. I have never seen him live, so I cannot speak of his live performance, but I am truly a fan of his albums. I would agrue some of his lesser popular material is good hip/hop and his lyrical content has its moments.
I cite the following lyrics as examples: Kanye West- All Falls Down "We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom We'll buy a lot of clothes when we don't really need em Things we buy to cover up what's inside" .......
"But I ain't even gon act holier than thou Cause fuck it, I went to Jacob with 25 thou Before I had a house and I'd do it again Cause I wanna be on 106 and Park pushing a Benz I wanna act ballerific like it's all terrific I got a couple past due bills, I won't get specific I got a problem with spending before I get it We all self conscious I'm just the first to admit it".. He is not completely full of himself
Kanye West- Roses "If Magic Johnson got a cure for A.I.D.'s And all the broke muthafuckers past away You tellin me if my grandma was in the N.B.A. Right now she'd be ok? " Song about his grandmother dying of aids... While I don't agree with his take on the matter, it does however show a deeper side then RIMS!!!
..... His "beats" or music on many songs I find to have something more to offer than just filler. See use of piano in "Homecoming" and "Gone" or the simplicity found on "Good Morning"....
Personally I would rather not see him at Bonnaroo, mainly because he would demand to "headline".... All I am saying his... He rocks my socks... To each their own.
I mean...yeah, his songs are catchy. His first two albums were great for mainstream hip/hop albums.
The last one was garbage, imo. He says nothing on most every song. His flow literally goes in circles. His beats are sometimes literally ripped off earlier songs and even other people's songs. It's the first time I thought maybe Kanye was less a genius and more the next P Diddy.
As for his lyrical flow, comparing him to any of the great MCs is like comparing Stephen King to William Faulkner. King is a great read and he'll always be more popular. But he has the subtlety of an elephant at a horse race. Kanye's the same way. He makes a lot of puns, says things that explicitly political without going into detail and lays down really catchy beats underneath. But he's not Jay-Z. He's not Lil' Wayne. He's not Talib Kweli or Mos Def. And he's definitely not on the level of Mad Lib, MF Doom or Gift of Gab.
I recently read an interview with him addressing the reasons he further simplified his already simplified flow. His point was general audiences can't follow normal flow. BUT look at someone like Eminem or Boots Riley. These are guys that dumb it down constantly for slower beats and audiences get it.
Bottom line, I think his flow is not where it needs to be for his status. And his beats have taken a hit from the quality they initially had on previous music he's produced. Hell, as much as I liked Late Registration, looking back it's hard not to ask how much he was helped by having guest producers come in and collab on several tracks. He needs to take a cue from Dr. Dre, take a backseat and let the beats and the guys with talent tell his story.

Please, no Kanye West in any shape or form. I saw him play at Dancin in the District a long time ago, and it was the worse set I have ever seen. He was more of a hype man than a rapper up there.
The hip hop I want this year is Outkast with The Roots providing the beats for a late night spectacular on the Which Stage. I can just imagine 30,000+ people chanting "HHHEEEYYYYYY YAAAAAA!!!" and "I'm sorry Ms. Jackson, WOOOOOO!!" That brings a smile to face just thinking of that Also, Andre 3000 could easily pull off his own set throughout the weekend (he did have Norah Jones guest with him on his album).
Speaking of Norah, I could see some people being happy with her coming back. Have not heard any mention of her in a long time, also of Tori Amos. What is she doing nowadays?
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

i say kanye at the house of blues. For the college drop out album. It was one of the greatest performance i have ever seen. he would be a good addition, if it was the same kind of performance. It would be cool if Lupa came too.
I hope Bonnaroo wouldn't promote anyone as shallow and materialistic as Kanye, he is the poster child for corporate rap. If they let him "perform" (and by that I mean lyrically masturbate on stage) they might as well open up McDonalds booths and have Wal-Mart sponser the general store.
