Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Look at Tom Petty's Myspace Page. There is a conspicuous absence of shows during his tour between the dates of June 12th-15th. Also, Bonnaroo made it to his top eight, something it hasn't done since he played in 2006. I bet my pretty little hat that Petty will be headlining again this year. Something I couldn't be happier about.
damnit. i sure hope not. i thought petty sucked. it was cool to see him and all but now ive been there and done that. his roo show was a pretty similar experience to us listening to him in the car on the way down. i hope he dosent eat up a headliner spot. the only positive thing i can think to say is that hopefully winwood will be there too. he fucking rocked!!!
maybe sting will guest with petty and they can combine the 2 worst headliners ive ever seen at a fest. it seems like something superfly would do. i say shitcan him and bring back radiohead!!! or even dave for that matter. and it would be a tragedy to have petty back after the show he put on when they havent had neil young back!!!!!!! i think mr young could go up there and fart for 3 hours and it would be better then hearing petty sing the same songs the same way AGAIN! ill get my fill of him from superbowl shitshows and muzack at applebees thankyou very much.
oh and i thought it worth mentioning that the thought of grace potter and neil young at the same fest gives me a warm fuzzy after cortez at allgood. of course grace always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling so that might not mean much
1. That's Eddie Vedder....I thought it was a homeless guy... 2. I said it before, I'll say it again....last time I saw Petty, I slept through most of it....no thank you. 3. I thought he was already listed in the NOT playing thread....isn't he in Boston/New York area during the Roo?
well, you ask me why i'm drunk all the time it levels my head and eases my mind i just walk along and stroll and sing i see better days and i do better things

I like bands that don't need special effects to supplement their music. Thus I like Petty. I've seen him 3 times in the past 4 years, never once fell asleep. I thought every show rocked.

for me the problem is he plays his hits the exact same way we have all heard them hundereds of times on the radio and greatest hits cds. i dont get into the special effects shows either. such as tool. but atleast they have an excuse to play the same setlist the same way every stop on the tour so their special effects can be spectacular. with petty its the same setlist played the same way every stop on the tour. whats his excuse? its not for the lasers. sure its good music. but its not a good show. and it sure aint a 2 time roo headliner experience in my view. people can say what they want about dave but he has tons of guests and mixes his shows up. he knows how to put on a headliner show. most of your festival bands put on amazing shows every stop of their tour. not the same thing over and over, year after year. what will petty do at roo that he didnt do before? ive never heard umphreys, sci, or moe play a song the way it sounds on an album, or even the way it sounded on any other stop on their tour. sure petty has some great songs but how many times can he play the the exact same greatest hits and have it be interesting. ill be generous and say once. but to each their own. ive come to the understanding that roo means a few good shows in the blazing heat and choking dust along with 2 latenights and sundays headliner that will be amazing. i guess i should quit complaining since i know thats how it is gonna be. its just so disappointing. its not that the music isnt good. but i would hesitate to call them great musicians. they are great studio artists. id rather see great musicians go up on stage and cover petty. lets have keller and the keels go out there and put on a petty show instead of petty.(damn i love allgood!) now that would be headliner worthy. its kinda like wwf wrestlers. are they athletes or actors? they put on a show. thats kinda how i feel about petty. hes an actor putting on the same play everynight. and its just not that interesting of a play. IMO of course. and for roo headliners its the same stage with the same lights for the most part. so the effects arent much of an issue. i didnt see much difference between daves lights and pettys. the difference was robert randolph, trey, warren, and extended versions and unexpected songs. thats what roo is about. not mainstream hits played note for note off the cd. (damn it felt good to say mainstream!!! its been a while. thank god for roo or id have no reason to use that word ;D )

I wouldn't get too excited just yet. He's playing on the 11th in CT, the 13th in Boston, and then the 17th in NY. He very well could travel all the way down to TN for the festival and then back to NY, but this seems a tad out of the way.

I'd guess it's a pretty easy flight, thats how the band travels
lol.... i decided against commenting on hair and legs at the same time cuz i was wondering the same thing if it counts for anything it dosent look like eddies legs are functioning at 100 percent.
BTW- dosent petty kinda have a willy wonka type look to him. especially with some of his wardrobe decisions.

I actually feel the exact opposite on pretty much all of those. I have zero interest in seeing Tom Petty and totally agree with dude. Give me Metallica any day of the week over Tom Petty. I'm not a huge DMB fan any longer, but if i had to choose between the two i rather have Dave back. I haven't heard any Coldplay in years, I honestly think i rather have Coldplay than Tom Petty. Smite away. ;D

it just comes down to if
Free fallin' and you dont know how it feels beats out Roxanne, creeping death, panama, or clocks (agagagaahah)imo.
But i love me some tom petty anytime/anyplace. But for varieties sake, the lineup would be pretty sick if it was a mix up of band headliners i havent seen
but think about this
the possiblility of petty headlining sunday, before him.
Thursday - Allman Brothers Friday - Pearl Jam Saturday - Neil Young Sunday - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
in my eyes, thats like ....amazing. even w/o Any one of those headliners. or switch one w/ DMB??
Just throw in some other young aces in the line up i.e. moe, bisco, sts9,q.o.t.s.a., les claypool in some form, and mmj
then you have who we already know will be there. b.b. king & willie nelson

Well, I enjoyed Petty's show, but honestly I wouldn't want to see him again. I have heard from several people that once you've seen one Petty show, you've seen them all. Now, I wouldn't mind seeing Mudcrutch or Petty and Winwood, but him alone doesn't really excite me. I do feel like he did pull out some cool stuff in 06...he jammed a pretty good bit, played some new songs and some covers, and of course Stevie Nicks was like the cherry on top of that night (seeing them play Stop Draggin' my Heart Around...wow...) but I don't know how good he will be again.
