Jack Johnson is listed as the third band on the list.
the only year bonnaroo has released a lineup without the first 3 bands on the initial artist list not being headliners, was in 2003, when they added Neil Young in Round 2.
Who is this "Jack Johnson" character and why is he in the top portion of the artist list......i think they should have lez zeppelin headline with robert plant doing vocals

Actually, 2006 many publications published Beck as the third headliner because nobody knows who Phil Lesh is.
And none of the press releases have mentioned Jack Johnson as a headliner whereas they have named Pearl Jam and Metallica as the headliners.
Personally I can't see Jack headlining, but that's simply my opinion. Why would Phil Lesh agree to come back and play, when he has headlined a day before, only to be pushed down on the bill? Doesn't make sense to me.
I think some of these sources got too much information, and it wasn't supposed to be released until after tickets went on sale. The bottom line is, they may print new articles saying Metallica is the headliner, but I've yet to see a single RETRACTION.
I Concur. !
...just found this thread, this whole time i've been hanging in the lineup thread posting my finds about this!
For the past week I have been thinking to myself, "Hmm, it's strange that they will be releasing the lineup on the same night as the Presidential Primary Election." It does seem like bad planning if they intended to get mass attention from the lineup release. It seems like the news would compete.
Any theories as to why? Besides the fact that they seem partial to wednesdays.
I think that maybe.... they are trying to limit the exposure of the possible Led Zep "leak" by NME- therefore giving fans an even better chance to get tickets before the scalpers do.
Then again, I could be totally misguided....don't know much about PR.
If this is a screw up... how the hell does something like this happen? And why Bonnaroo? THere're are dozens of other festivals? Why weren't they rumored for Coachella or Reading or Glastonburry or whatever?
anywho... yeah jack johnson seems really weird for a headliner. i think its another diversion! with the whole super tuesday & whatnot... here's to hoping!!!

If you go back to the beginning of the LZ/Metallica rumor it was stated by Bonnaroo press guy that the Mirror article was inaccurate and then Metallica stated that they would not be playing the Roo. Now Metallica is a go and LZ is being pulled from the press. Maybe all of these leaks were legit leaks with some damage control and they really are holding of the LZ announcement till after initial ticket sales. I don't know what to think at this point but some strange stuff has gone done with all of this.

Yes, there's a lot of explaining to be done about all this. Some strange things are going on. I've gotta believe, they are trying to keep LED Zep under wraps until sometime after tickets go on sale, that's the only way to explain all this.
i just read this whole thread while listening to soundgarden's jesus christ pose and i'm totally freaking!
i think what people are saying about LZ being announced AFTER tix go on sale is true. give joe average the chance to get a ticket before all the prick scalpers. why else would these sources have LZ playing, and then just pretend it never happened, if superfly didn't put the smackdown on them?

one source misread LEZ for led and printed it. then everyone else didnt want to be late so they all went with it too...no one took the time to research their info. they just didnt want to be late for the party....
we should all give up on LZ and maybe there will be a god.

No, there were at least three completely different articles that all hit their respective sites at the same time. NME, Billboard and Rolling Stone were ALL carrying releases that were very different from the very short AP one that appeared on Yahoo and the AP. The other releases looked like they had been prepared before hand, and loaded up at the approp. time.
Now, my REAL questions is: Metallica on Friday, PJ on Sat., and I would assume Allman Bro. on Sunday night, though that's just a guess. IF Zeppelin is still coming, where do they fit into the schedule?
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "
Not to be a complete buzzkill, but I think you guys are reading a little too much into the various articles about Zeppelin headlining the 'Roo. Think about it. News companies have to be quick to stay on top. In order to be quick, they often have prepared stories about likely or rumored events, just such as this. The whole first part of the AP article, the part that pertained to Zeppelin specifically, was detailed and almost certainly written well ahead of time. The rest of the article is basically cut and pasted names, with no real detail or substance. I'm sure the AP also had a story about the Patriots' Superbowl victory. They also, for the record, have Britney Spears' obituary ready and waiting, just in case.
All that being said, I will continue to hope that they do play Bonnaroo. I've also saved a copy of the AP story, to help me keep that hope alive.
I think CMJ and NME dropped the ball. Led Zepellin will be there. What Superfly did was not announce it initially because they wanted the Bonnaroo faithful to be able to snatch the tix first. You'll probably see Led Zeppelin in one of the biggest artist addition announcements ever.
Oh, for everyones records, here's a screen grab from NME last night...
If one source put Zep down and took it off I would think "yeah that was an error". But not when it was several news sources. I think Superfly asked them not to put it yet and some newbie screwed up.

I think it's more likely that it was a domino effect, probably started by the AP. A lot of unlikely places use the AP, as do most major news sources. Once they put up their prepared story, the rest put theirs up immediately, not wanting to be left out of the loop. That seems more likely to me than every one of these sites having the same attack of the newbs.
If LZ is going to be a late addition, I really don't think Superfly would leak it to this many sources this far ahead of time.

First off, many of the news sources had the line-up earlier in the day. The girl from the Tennessean had already seen the list in the early evening. Secondly, NME was reporting on their site from mid evening a suprise guest. None of the other outlets were touting a suprise guest. Who on the list is the suprise guest? I think LZ is going to show up in a month so that roo regulars get a chance. Still hoping.
NME was announcing 10 hours before the lineup annoucement. In the news biz, 10 hours is a long time to get your facts straight.
Yeah, I've taken some journalism courses in college, and one thing I actually do remember is that these sources have to check their facts first before printing (or posting) something like that.
For all of these different publications to announce Led Zeppelin independently of each other would be too big of a coincidence, since they had all had the lineup a while, and most listed Lez Zeppelin also, properly spelled.
I think this is 2008's version of the news leak. Instead of the whole lineup getting released, some of the media just slipped up and announced Zeppelin. The media sources who had actually kept the secret, seeing that others had announced it, didn't want to be beat to the punch with the news, and also announced it.
Then, Superfly went around twisting ears and bopping heads, and they all changed the lineup announcements, for now.
Although Capps has said they won't be there...it seems odd that so many sources would falsely claim Led Zeppelin.
