Actually it looked to me like that was an interview bonnaroo did that they posted on their site. The people they would be trying to get to accept them wouldn't be on Metallica's site.

I'm not even a huge Metallica fan, but I've heard nothing but good things about their live shows. I don't see the average "meathead get drunk and beat your wife" Metallica fan (not saying I believe the stereotype, but thats what it is) spending the money to camp for 4 days in the hot TN summer just to see one show, when they are probably going to do a summer tour.

yes. my friend is a die hard metal fan, metallica being the end all be all, and he's not willing to spend the money to come. the people who will be there (more likely than not) are people who just want to take in music, and by and large i think they'll be a good addition to 'roo, maybe teach some people a little something?
Ok...so while I will still probably rest up for late night instead of going to their show (because it's really not my thing...not because I'm a hater), I'm feeling better about them being there.
