Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.

I just got Dirt Farmer, it is great. I skipped over his name the first time I saw the lineup, but when I clicked on his name to read the artist description at bonnaroo.com I realized that he was the drummer for The Band, and then immediately got Dirt Farmer. Now he is one of the artists that I'm most excited about.
Does anyone know if he plays any songs by The Band when he plays with Ramble on the Road? I will be at this show either way, but I would love to hear them play I Shall Be Released or Rag Mama Rag.
When I saw Levon at the Ryman the only Band songs he played were... Ophelia, I don't Want to put up my R'N'R shoes (a cover, but the Band covered it as well), Goin' Back to Memphis (cover that the Band did also), The Weight, Chest Fever, Evangeilne w/ Emmylou, and Jimmy Vivino sang "Tears of Rage". EDIT: I'm pretty sure he did Rag Mama Rag, too
They also did Atlantic City, Sittin' on Top of the World, It takes a train to cry...., I shall be released and a bunch more that I can't remember off the top of my head. Either way this show is going to be sick and I can't wait. I'll also bet that his daughter's band Ollabelle will be an addition, because they always show up where he is.
Warren, MMW, Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint, Emmylou, Hubert Sumlin, Gillian Welch, Donald fagen, Danny Louis, Jimmy Vivino and Larry Campbell (they are his guitarist when he tours and I'll be they are his guitarist for roo), Dr. John, GARTH HUDSON, Sean Costello, etc.

If I make it back to the farm this year, this will be the reason why. I was very excited to see the Ramble was gonna be at Merlefest, and had a remote hope that Roo would snag it too. The style of the ramble is SOOO Bonnaroo that it is basically SuperJam. These rambles often have the vibe of snake wavin' revivals !
Levon has gotten his voice back after a long stint with throat cancer. If his new album is any clue, the Roo is in for a treat. His voice is so velvety lush that it seared into my soul the gothic funky country passion it is steeped in.

I have been looking for a reason to go to Merlefest, besides the fact that I don't live too far from where it is. Now that I know that Levon will be there, I am seriously considering going.
^^ Just becareful with that. Dont walk in with the "Partaaaa!!!" attitude. Merlefest doesn't allow drinking on the festival site and if you smoke ... you know ... cigarettes, then you basically have to go to the street to do that. The site is on a community college campus. I aint saying it aint fun. But those rules they post are for real. I've seen people get kicked out before. That said. Can you imagine the sickness that will be the sit ins there?
also this is pretty cool. If y'all are wondering what songs Levon sings (or plays drums or Mandolin or bass etc) from The Band's discography this is the place to look!
Great resource! I just moved all of the appropriate The Band songs onto my Bonnaroo '08 playlist. Between that and picking up Dirt Farmer today based on this thread, I am getting excited for the Ramble!
levon's coming to philly next friday and i'm going!! i'm going even though i hate the electric factory (they stole corn from me once and from my friend another time!!) but i'll take the risk because i love levon!!
Congrats to Levon for being honored twice last night at the Grammys, one as a member of The Band (Life Time Achievement Award), and another for winning Best Traditional Folk Album for Dirt Farmer!!

did you guys notice that on the website for the band that he has the entire festival listed as tour dates? does this mean hes doing more than one show? would be cool!

Probably not more than one show, but maybe a lot of guest appearances.
