^I like metallica as much as the next person. I just think they should have booked megadeth too
Haha, serious? I don't think Mustaine would play a fest that Metallica was headlining. That would be sweet, but i think just as likely as him coming out and playing with them.

Meh... Atleast I was proven wrong. I thought 10 might have been too easy of a number a while after posting, but asking for more just seemed monotonous.
Eventually, I will try to get everyone who named 10 karma

You're not wrong, if you think Kirk rules, then to you he does. I just dont happen to think he is a good musician, different strokes for different folks....
There were bands I didn't like playing Bonnaroo last year. You know what? I didn't go watch them. So, this year will be much the same. I personally don't like Metallica, so I'll find something else to do while they're playing....like get some beers and jockey for position at one of the shows that follow Metallica
People hate them for napster and post Black Album. They know that the new stuff sucks, thats why they don't play it. They will probably play some new stuff off their 08' album, st. anger, and then old stuff. Hopefully we get Master of Puppets front to back. What really surprises me is the amount of people who use to be big Metallica fans and are saying they don't want them there. If you guys liked their old stuff, try and catch their show.
saw them in 2004 at Nassau Coliseum and they were great. I understand the viewpoint that they are not that fitting for the festival, but I for one am excited to see them again. They put on a great show last time and hope they don't dissapoint this time.
I admit I wasn't thrilled when I saw Metallica as a headliner.
But I mean, the guys are metal legends. I think its going to be cool to see such icons perform. I'm actually looking forward to it somewhat. I think it'll be interesting.

It's pretty irritating to see some posts on other message boards where there are posts urging folks to write to the Manchester city council to get them to ban Metallica from the city. This is opening a can of worms that is not desirable in any way.
I am also tired of reading posts with the subject line "BLAH BLAH I WENT TO EVERY ROO AND NOT THIS ONE METALLICA TEH SUXX0R!!!1!" because who gives a fuck if this person is not going to be at Bonnaroo. Maybe I'll get to camp one tent closer to Centeroo this year.
Also I don't actually read those posts, but I am tired of the bitching.

I think it's appropriate that Metallica should play an old album in its entirety (Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightening, Kill'em All) Put it this way....they have no new material to get excited about and everyone at Roo would be so stoked!!!!!! They have to, theres no way around it!!!

I hope noone goes to see Metallica, so I can be right up front. Metallica's not my favorite band but I can't wait to see them.
If someone should be bashed, it should be Kanye West. What's next? Gangsta Rap at Roo? But I digress, While Mr. West does his thing I'll be watching someone else oblivious to his presence.
Im tired of telling my friends im going to bonnaroo and when they ask whose headlining this year I tell them metallica and they say metallica sucks. I wish I could make them truly understand that bonnaroo is about more than just whose headlining and that Metallica does not suck!
To each thier own on the bashing. I listened to a lot of Metallica when i was first getting into music(thanks to the older brother). I saw them open the Black album tour in Peoria, it was an great show. They are good musicians, to me Metallica is all about stamina. They can play pretty damned fast, Lars may be a tool but he is all over that drum kit with a quickness. I believe they have a new album due out this year so this show will feature some new tunes. I will check them out, not sure if will stick around for the whole set though.
Just like the police last year, I have no doubt that the Metallica slot will allow me the perfect opportunity to grab a great spot for some late-night action. Nothing against them, just not my cup of tea.
Ill probably get smited for this but, somebodys gotta say it. First off let me start by sayin again that since 2006 BONNAROO IS NOT A JAMBAND FESTIVAL ANYMORE. 1 Someone once said that Bonnaroo was a place where music fans go to see people PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS.(to me thats why they belong there more than a lot of the hip hop and rap acts) 2 Metallica has been around for 25 years, they were just kids when theystarted. 3 They mighthave the most MTV airtime of anyband at Bonnaroo, but they were on there back when MTVwas actually into music, big diference from what you see on MTV today(mostly teenager appealling reality shows, a lot of rap and crappy trendy indie bands). 4 Metallica can play their instrument better that MOST(not all)bands at Bonnaroo. 5 I am a Dead Head the Dead is what brought me to Bonnaroo Where I found lots of other good bands RRFB UM NMAS etc My Top 3 favorite bans are 1 Grateful Dead2 Pantera3 Black Sabbath. Idont like Radiohead or Tool that much, but I didnt bash them on the boards. However I am psyched for this show and many others. Most hippies I know like heavy music too. But there are always the "Super Hippies"(you know the type " all my favorite bands youve never heard of")and its a fad to them to not like Metallica or any other kind of popular music. Most people that are bashing them have probably never listened to them or know anything about the band and its history. I aint gonna mention any names or bands but I have seen a lot of people on here bash Metallica and give props to a crappy band(which there have been plenty of at Roo) Metallica is still pretty good even though they are in their 40's.
Metallica has always had fans there since the first Roo

Mad Karma for that post .Cypress Hill was good for Roo and they put on a damn good show, Snoop Dog would be good for the roo crowd. But seriously Kanye West Who are they gonna have next year, Puff Daddy.

I'm tired of the bashing of the Metallica bashing. Let me hate Metallica. There are plenty of other bands on the lineup that I don't like (Death Cab, Ozomatli, M.I.A., etc.) but I am more frustrated by Metallica because more of my money is going to them than the aforementioned, because they will be the only ones playing at their particular time slot, and because they are a headliner. Is that understandable?
So go ahead, tell me not to go to Roo so you can get a better seat. But I've already bought my tickets, and I will be loving every minute I'm there, and my hatred for Metallica will not ruin any vibes or affect anyone but ME, so what do you care?
Also, on the Kanye question...I worked security at one of his concerts, and he brings in VERY talented musicians to back him up, and puts on an enjoyable show. I don't like some of his music, but the guy has talent, and I will be checking him out. I'm also excited to see Talib and Lupe Fiasco, even though they, like Kanye, seem out of place to me.

I have quite a story with Metallica. When I was a kid, the "One" video freaked me out so bad that I couldn't go near 'em. By the time I was in high school, they were my favorite metal band, even though that video still creeps me out as an adult (so did the book, though it was great: HEAVY stuff!). I got really pissed off over the Napster thing, though I could kind of see their point. I had the post-Black Album syndrome too. Will I see them? Still haven't decided. But I want to see so many others that it makes the ticket cost, trip, and everything else well worth it. With skyrocketing ticket prices these days, Bonnaroo is almost worth it even if you just want to see a handful of bands. I've also never skipped a headline show; it might be kinda cool to go back to camp early and just listen from there. Bonnie Raitt sure sounded good from camp in '06. Then too, I might just get screwed into Austin Powers again this year (please, Gods, no! lol)
