Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Stop hating Metallica, they’re good musicians. Their recent set lists are 95% classic material anyways. Diversity should be accepted, especially at Bonnaroo. We have a chance to see what they can bring musically and I’m sure most will not be disappointed!!

People hate them for napster and post Black Album. They know that the new stuff sucks, thats why they don't play it. They will probably play some new stuff off their 08' album, st. anger, and then old stuff. Hopefully we get Master of Puppets front to back. What really surprises me is the amount of people who use to be big Metallica fans and are saying they don't want them there. If you guys liked their old stuff, try and catch their show.
I think the bashing is justified to a certain degree. They've generally had an anti-hippie stigma and there policies on taping shows and passing on of their music is usually disimilar to most the acts you'd have at Bonnaroo. I'm a jam band fan mostly but I do like a lot of other acts. I'm also pumped to see Talib Kweli and Lupe Fiasco. As far as musical diversity: I'm really fine with the differing acts but I'm not paying $250 to be educated on what the masses listen to. Education in general is a personal perogative, not a cross for superfly to bear.
they will be at roo. if you are going you maybe need to have a good attitude like i did last year with the mediocre police. i lived through that and i think i enjoyed it MORE because i wasnt expecting as much. you may be surprised at how cool they are. i feel bad for them...their fans are dissing them and so are the roo folks. lets be accepting and give them a chance.
People are going to bitch and moan for a week or two, get it out of their system and then practically forget about it once the first additional round comes out (hopefully next week before tix go onsale).
I say let them moan and complain. This is not a unquestionably awesome choice of headliner. It's a very odd, questionable one.
i am. im pumped about seeing Metallica. a lot of people were hesitant about tool last year, including me, but they turned out to be my favorite show of the weekend. don't hate till u've seen someone live

I will be rocking the F|_|CK out for metallica!
Personally, I have quite diverse tastes in music. I can understand how this festival's trend towards different stuff could piss certain people off... but for people like me, it's awesome.
I am done with the bashing and am actually looking forward to it. I have accepted that they are there and if SF is ok with booking them, then I am ok with watching them. They have not done me wrong yet. I was also leary on Tool last year but they were my second favorite performance behind the Lips. I even saw Tool again a few weeks later just to relive some Bonnaroo memories.
I'm not at all happy about Metallica as a headliner, don't get me wrong. But they are a headliner. And I'm not missing Roo. So I might as well try to look forward to seeing a band who put our three or four 80's albums that I really like, and try to enjoy their set as much as I can when they get there. Sure, complaining about it makes us feel better now, but in the end...might as well just accept it and make the best of it.
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.
And as to whether or not they're the worst ever Roo headliner, I will all but guarantee you they'll put on a better show than the Police did last year. (Although that's not saying much.)

Sounds like alot of bands we like... alot of them don't allow SBD access any more because of livedownloads.com...
Metallica is taper-friendly Taping Specifics: Metallica DOES NOT allow soundboard access Metallica DOES NOT allow soundboard (SBD) access Metallica DOES NOT have a tapers section Metallica DOES NOT have a tapers section Metallica DOES NOT require a tapers ticket Metallica DOES NOT require a taper's ticket Metallica allows taping from seat Metallica allows taping from your seat Metallica allows front of soundboard (FOB) taping Metallica allows front of soundboard (FOB) taping Metallica DOES NOT allow onstage taping Metallica DOES NOT allow onstage taping Metallica DOES NOT allow videotaping Metallica DOES NOT allow videotaping Metallica DOES NOT allow photography Metallica DOES NOT allow photography (then there's this part, which basically says don't sell our bootlegs, turdface... which is what alot of bands are like...) Can I record concerts? Recording is prohibited at most venues and it is up to YOU to determine this before you record any concert. You may record concerts for your own personal use if the venue allows it, but we ask that you please not trade, donate, or barter the recordings in exchange for other goods or money. As a fan, you know that Metallica is very particular about the quality of their recordings and anything with their name on it. This standard of quality is lost when the band's name is used and recordings are distributed without their permission.
Can I offer Metallica's recordings to be downloaded by visitors to my website? No, we do not authorize any Metallica music to be downloaded, but please feel free to stream Metallica's music on your site (maximum streaming quality 28kb/sec) - just no downloading. Only official Metallica releases may be streamed, no recordings from concerts or any other source.
This will be my third year in a row and I havent looked foward to any of the Top 3 headliners more than I am looking foward to Metallica. Im pretty sure Ill dance more at that show than I ever have for a show at Roo.

I will say this. More people would be excited to see Iron Maiden as a headliner than Metallica.
Iron Maiden isn't half the draw of Metallica.
Thats a completely false statement. Maiden is way more popular worldwide. Metallica may edge them out in the states, but Maiden can and will sell out every one of their world tour dates coming up.

This post isn't aimed at any one person. It is my letter to the folks that every year whine about the line up. Feel free to smite I can't see who is doing it anyway.
I've seen Metallica before. If I'm at Roo I will be seeing them again. I don't understand the dislike for it. I don't like The Dead, Trey or Phish or Dave. So I just skip the show. Superfly and AC are trying to expand and get some bands that I would say a decent portion of the Bonnaroo "Base" want to hear. It's the same every year, "They don't have my perfect line up," Or "*insert band name* is the worst idea and will ruin\prison rape the ENTIRE festival." Yeah so what. When I first came to Roo in 03 I wasn't a jam kiddie. Noodling for hours isn't me. I knew the Dead, Panic (I dig some of there stuff now) and Neil Young (meh to me) were headlining. Didn't stop me from going. I stopped and watched a bit of each of those. When I realized it wasn't for me I went back to camp refilled the water and drank a few beers. Just because it wasn't for me it didn't make the fest suck.
You think Metallica is a bad idea, yeah and people said Radiohead, and Tool were going to wreck the "vibe". People hated it when Death Cab and Bright Eyes were there as well, cause the people that listen to them would wreck the "vibe." I though Jam band folks were open to new and different things. The same folks that are upset that *name a jamband* aren't there are a lot of the same folks that are upset that *name a band that isn't what I wanted at roo* is not there.
It's a Music Festival. It's about walking around and finding that jem of a band that you will go home and buy and love forever. It's about staying up all night dancing or whatever your into to a band that you like. There is plenty of music to be had. One band isn't going to ruin the "vibe" of the fest. The folks that walk around bitching about Metallica shouldn't be here are the one's that ruin the vibe. In 04 when Umphrey's did the Metallica covers I found out by tons of people going "Metallica's here and playing with Umphrey's," or some variation. The excitement in their voice was priceless. Some were kinda upset when they found out. Yeah that tells me Metallica isn't wanted at Bonnaroo.
Thats a completely false statement. Maiden is way more popular worldwide. Metallica may edge them out in the states, but Maiden can and will sell out every one of their world tour dates coming up.
True, but Bonnaroo is an American fest.
Yea, but hearing Hallowed Be Thy Name on The Farm would kickass.

Haha, funktopus, that reminds me of another thing that i don't get. How everyone loves metallica covers but don't want them to be there.... Good post, i think a lot of "jam band" fans can really be music snobs, but i suppose you can say that about most genres. And yes, i am a fan of the genre, listened to it almost exclusively at one point. I now prefer the prog jam bands, like Umphrey's, i'm 90% sure i'll be at their show, even though i've seen them several times.

Iron maiden > metallica > sharp stick in eye > kanye
i do think metallica and mastodon should just switch places in headliner status, but mtllca on main stage just meens i'll have more time to shake it down on shakedown for the late night!
other than a few bands it's looking to be another kick ass roo. I love it when they announce the lineup!!!the bonnaroo pre-season has begun!!!
