one of canada's biggest bands, in a hipster kind of way
being from canada, i could see BSS pretty much any month... a long with all other bands that are in relation (feist, metric, jason collett, final fansty etc.) actually jason collett is really good. check him out. but if there are no ther better bands playing i'd probably go and check em out. it'd be cool to see em in the durrty south.
I've got to be honest the Canadian Indie Music Scene is kind of killin' it right now, with Broken Social Scene and all their offshoots and amalgamations (Feist, Metric, The Stars, The Dears, Jason Collett, Final Fantasy) just owning Toronto and Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade (and their offshoots) holding down Montreal it looks to be nothing but green pastures for the future of our musical output. Lest we forget Black Mountain (and Ladyhawk) out west, or Buck 65 out east. Well sheeeeiiit, I'll just stop while I'm ahead, you get the idea

You forgot the best band Canada has to offer outside of Arcade Fire. Do Make Say Think. That band gets on stage, and the metaphorical gloves come right the fuc.k off!

40 bucks? Ouch i only payed 18 for the BSS Presents Kevin Drew'sSprit If..., i wonder if that means it really is a true BSS show, aka majority of the set focusing on BSS tunes, and also the traditional overblown BSS lineup...
I have never once paid to see a Broken Social Scene show. Bonnaroo will make it three in a row. My friend Amy works at the Michigan theater, where they played the last two times they came through Ann Arbor. This last time, Andrew Kenny bought corn off of me, in the green room, at the Michigan. It was pretty sweet!
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.

Broken Social Scene is in my top five to see this year. I love Stars, and I'm seeing them for the second time in March, and since I put them in a similar category, it's just going to get me so excited for BSS.
If Feist came, I think I'd probably piss myself. I saw her open with The Magic Numbers for Bright Eyes about a year and a half ago, and I had never really listened to her, and I was at that moment so amazed by her that I went out and bought the cd the next day.
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."

I can't wait to see BSS again. I saw them at Voodoo Fest a few years ago and was blown away. I've been listening to them ever since that show. Do you think it will be an exclusive BSS show, or is there a chance they'll play some of Kevin Drew's material? I'd love to hear some of his songs live.
As much as I would love to see the whole crew together again (yes, they were a highlight at Lolla 06), I can almost guarantee that this performance will be primarily to promote the second album of the "BSS Presents" series. The last one focused on Kevin Drew and this one will focus on Brendan Canning. It will be released a couple weeks before Bonnaroo, so I'm assuming that will be the emphasis. I wouldn't count on any of their "superstars" to be there.
On the other hand, it's a huge festival and anything is possible. *fingers crossed*

Yeah, but when they did a tour presenting Kevin Drew, all the press and the tickets I saw all said "Broken Social Scene Presents: Kevin Drew: Spirit If". Even ticketmaster.com had it listed as such. The press for this (up to this point at least) has not called it "Broken Social Scene Presents Brendan Canning", so I doubt it's going to be another BSS Presents show. Also, that wouldn't draw many people. They couldn't even sell out the Michigan Theater with the Kevin Drew show, but a year prior with BSS and Do Make Say Think, that place was sold out in two weeks. I think if they duped people like that, people would just walk away and find something that is worth seeing.
sooo BSS had a show tonight...errr last night...i mean like 12 hours ago...i really dont know the specifics of time in New Zealand, but the fact remains is they played their first show of the tour already... i've been searching the blogosphere on a review of the show (in terms of setlist and personel), havent found anything yet. I'll keep y'all posted!

it looks good for her to be there. I checked out the tour dates for most of the off shoots and they all are open around 'roo. This includes Feist and Emily Haines
soo i never heard of BSS untill reading this thread and i really dig this music. Its got a mellow sound to it and i really think this would be good stuff live.. Favorite song so far is cause=time..
!!!!! So they are offically back and running! (i mean this saying, they are BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE, not the average, Kevin Drew Presents...version. the real deal. )
they played more BSS stuff than Kevin Drew stuff (and the Kevin Drew stuff they played are the best tracks off his album no less). I mention this because there is a somewhat large difference between the two.
they played Laneway Festival over the weekend in Australia, and yeah they have everything you think of when you think of BSS, horns, violin (i think),Jason Whiteman (of Apostle of Hustle) and the famous girl vocalists! (Amy and Feist both played with them, albeit both were playing with their other bands at the festival).
here's the setlist.
uperconnected KC Accidental Stars And Sons Farewell to The Pressure Kids 7/4 (Shoreline) Fire Eye'd Boy Backed Out On The... Major Label Debut (Fast) quacked Up Kid Ibi Dreams Of Pavement (A Better Day)
KC Accidental Stars and Sons Farewell to the Pressure Kids (Kevin Drew song) Cause = Time Fucked up Kid (Kevin Drew song) Fire Eyed Boy 7/4 Shoreline Backed out On the...(Kevin Drew song) Looks like the song Frightening lives (Kevin Drew Song) Water in Hell (Brendan Canning song?) Tepesian (brendan canning song?) Superconnected Almost Crimes Major Label Debut (Fast) It's all gonna break.
no, but then again it was in Australia, (feist and Stars were playing the same fest, hence their appearances) but with 'Roo being in the heart of North America, you never know who'll drop by
