I'll just toss in an agreement on how much better they are live. I'm a huge Stripes fan, so got the Rac's album the day it came out and was tremendously disappointed. Some of the sounds just seemed trite and, except for Steady As She Goes, the rockers didn't rock out hard enough. Live, completely different story, with crazy solos and wild vocals. Though the slow songs are still just bad.
My sentiments have pretty much already been adressed in all the other posts. The Raconteurs album is good, but seeing it performed live just brings it to a whole 'nother Level Plus, by the time Bonnaroo swings around they will have another album to draw from as well as all the ridiculously sweet covers they've played. It's great that Jack White can really let loose in The Raconteurs, as he himself has stated he likes to create within a certain set of boundries with the stripes.
And kudos to The3Penguins for that sly Tom Waits pic. I remember before the line up was announced last year there was a lot of fervor around Inforoo about Tom Waits playing.... too bad that never panned out. Although maybe he could appear on this year's additions........ that'd be just the kind of sweetness I need to offset some of the sour from the original line up.
I saw their set at Virgin which was as awesome as an hr long set could be... Their 1st album was only 33mins long or so so they filled up the hr with extended solo's, a cover of bang bang, and a few unreleased tracks. At first jack and Brendan shared front man duties while still working well with each other, but as the show progressed it was clear who the nasty ass rock star was.... Benson brings an understated pop sensibility while Jack brings dirty riffs and dynamic vocals that completely overwhelmed me at the time...
Jack and Brendan sound awesome together and Patrick Keeler is a pleasure to watch working the kit... The Raconteurs are really bringing back guitar rock....
To me, live "Blue Veins" sounds like a song Joplin would have done, God rest her soul. It almost has a "Ball and Chain" vibe, with the bluesy riff, the slow beat and the screaming guitar solo's.
I would like to see them cover "Ball and Chain" I think they would do it justice.
Jack White floored me last year..he plays with so much passion and intensity and just wails so hard it is mind-blowing. I had sort of lost interest in the White Stripes over the years, but that show reminded me why I loved them so much in the first place. I'll be psyched to see the Raconteurs.

I just put up a live show at the Sharing Music thread over in The Which Stage that really showcases how great these guys are (featuring their incredible cover of Bang Bang).
I saw them at Vegoose 06. It was a much better set than Bonnaroo 07 White Stripes, imo.
Well, that may be, in my opinion Roo was easily the worst of the three Stripes shows I've seen. With the ridiculous heat and humidity, Jack could NOT keep his guitar in tune for even one whole song it seemed, which led to them just not sounding nearly as tight as usual. It just sounded kind of sloppy. Still a good set, but not brilliant like the other two times I've seen them.
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.

Karma for that. Their performance of Bang Bang when I saw them was one of the greatest single live songs I've ever seen live.

They cover "The Seeker" sometimes, too... I really want to see that!
Do you all think Jack White will be invited to superjam this year? I really think he would be a great addition...
he would be a great addition! the white stripes last year was one of the most insane shows i have ever seen. they played icky thump and since i hadnt heard it before i was convinced they were jamming or something but i am definately hoping for some super jam with jack white. maybe lars will play with him...

Agreed. It was a good show but they are much better in a regular setting. A month prior to Bonnaroo, I saw the Stripes at a small venue (second row!) in Nashville and it was fucking amazing. For those of you who liked the White Stripes at Roo, you should see them when they are playing a regular show. Wow. Just wow.
Anyhoo, to get back on topic, I'm quite anxious to see Jack do his thing with the Raconteurs. This is easily the show I'm most excited about.
