I think you are in for a pleasant surprise. Blue Veins was maybe 4 minutes on the album, they must have jammed it for at least 8 or so minutes both times I saw them. And they really blues-ified Store Bought Bones. Half way through the song Jack took over the keys and ripped a nice solo before launching back into the rockin' slide solo.
Definitely one of my most anticipated acts this year. Now I'm wondering when they'll play.

They will do some extension of their songs, but there were solos and things of that nature, but not on the level of "jam band" jamming. Then again, I saw them at Virgin two years ago and they only had an hour so perhaps with a longer time slot. But they did drop a few covers, and Jack let out some nasty riffs. It was a satisfying experience, I plan to see them again.
Speaking of those blusey jams, I"ve seen them pull out some Son House and Robert Johnson on a couple of occasions. Without a doubt this will be a good show and we will get to hear some new material.

i saw them at ACL in 06. their live performance is why i own their cd. i had never been a huge white stripes fan because meg just doesn't do it for me as a drummer.
Never, ever even listened to this group... I know Jack White's in it and it's getting allot of praise from people here, so I'll check it out later today. '
I'm not a big fan of their album, but this show is still a must see for me because of Jack White. I know he is going to tear it up regardless of what songs he is playing.
When I saw them, I can only remember that they didn't seem to have any new material and therefore played songs of their album more than once (which i thought was kind of odd - not bad necessarily) - however this was a while ago and now they have a new album coming out so I'm expecting it to be better. Plus the venue they were at was crap. Roo will be a much better environment
...which stage do you think they'll play (i'm hoping which, but they could be placed in one of the tents)
You guys should check out The Greenhornes, they were the band that pretty much became Racounters with Jack White. I've seen them several times and they are really good, so with Jack White I imagine it will be amazing.

but the raconteurs...i'll take them any day!
raconteurs will really have to step up. you can't mess with the synergy that jack and meg bring live... impossible.
Jack White's music background is blues. His garage stuff has bluesy riffs left and right and he always pays his dues to Son House and Robert Johnson in interviews. I've never seen the Raconteurs live but have sen him twice and heard some of their live stuff. You can't contain Jack, he'll do as he pleases and treat us all well. (p.s. I wouldn't miss this show unless your favorite or most anticipated show conflicts. They are going to have new stuff from their next album and are known to cover many great songs. ex. they covered "crazy" by Gnarls Barkley at Lollapalooza, a festival that Gnarls was headlining.)
there was an interview on our local classic rock station the other day with Ashely Capps and he was saying that the Racounteurs are one of the bands he's most excited to see and pumped them up...the way he explained it, they basically asked jack white how to get him back again this year because the stripes set last year killed so hard...

The Raconteurs are awesome live. If I gave the White Stripes a 7/10 live, and I'd give the Raconteurs at least 9.5 With the addition of Brendon Benson and a better drummer Jack White really lets it rip!
Don't miss these guys..you're in for a real treat!
I'm not going to Bonnaroo this year like I hoped, but if I were, this would be the band I'd see. They're the main band I was looking forward to seeing. I've heard them live before, and they are damn good. If you didn't like the CD, you'll love the live show for sure.

Yeah the album left me a little cold as well.. but I caught a little bit of them performing on some show on TV and the material really came alive..
The White Stripes have always been so much better live than what they record.. I am really excited to see what their songs have evolved into.
OK, the song to see in their live show (and I really, really hope they still play it) is their version of Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down). It is f***ing ridiculous. Jack sings and plays like a man possessed. For me that was what took their show from about a 7.5 to a solid 9. My only issue with their live shows is that, honestly, Brendan's just nowhere near as good a performer as Jack, so it's a little frustrating that he gets pretty much equal time as lead singer.
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.
The album is hard to warm up to but the live show is great. I saw them at Lolla 2 years ago and they were great. They played most of the album plus threw in a few covers. Gnarls' "Crazy", Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang (My Baby Shit Me Down)", and Bowie's "It Aint Easy"
I also saw the Greenhornes open for the Stripes in Detroit a few years back and they were solid. Their rhythm section and Jack together put on a great show.
I'm stoked to check these guys out. White Stripes didn't really do it for me live. I think I would prefer jack's mastery along with a full band rocking out.
