We saw these cats for my birthday this year and danced our butts off.
The sound is roughly James Brown with a female singer.. but that doesn't do them justice.. 3 piece horns and an awesome rhythm section.. They play behind Amy Winehouse on the "I'm no good" single, and I heard they backed her up on her US tour.
These guys are going to be great. they came here to nashville a little while back and for some reason i couldn't go so hopefully, if there are no conflicts in schedule, i will finally get to check them out.
I hope they play Thursday night! We saw Ryan Shaw last year on Thursday and he knocked us out. He is kind of similar. I love discovering new bands on Thursday night at the roo.
mark ronson uses the dap kings a ton [he produced most of amy winehouses' record] and has a great record where he got folks to remake songs that weren't quite as well known. Really great stuff. Plus he just won best producer for 'back to black' at the grammy's sunday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that ronson magically shows up. it'll never happen but i can dream.
but yeah. sharon jones is going to be so much fun.

I saw them here in Cincinatti at Bogarts (for those who know it) a moderately size venue, they came down and talked to everyone after the show and signed whatever we had-- they were very nice.
Bosco Mann, mentioned that they felt it was too big a venue for them since the stage was so high and normally Sharon likes to pull people up on the stage to dance with them. (They evidently were bumped from the Southgate House for those who know the Natti.)
