Is anyone else looking forward to Willie Nelson as much as I am? I wouldn't consider myself a country fan by any means, but it doesn't get much better than an outdoor Willie Nelson show. I really hope they have him playing around sundown. Last year at Coachella, they had him playing around 7:00 and it was absolutely perfect. Nothing is more relaxing than lying in a field after an incredibly hot and tiring day while Willie plays and the temperature starts to drop.
With the lack of reggae at Roo this year I hope Willie plays some songs from 'Countryman'. I wasn't expecting much when I bought it, but I was pleasantly surprised by it.

I don't think I am familiar with any of his music, and I hate country music of all kinds, BUT I will probably try to get to see him just because he is Willie Nelson

I was very disappointed when Willie had to drop out in 04 I was really looking forward to seeing him. He was replaced by Steve Winwood. As it turned out Winwood played in a driving rainstorm with insane lightning. Winwood ended up being one of my favorite shows that year. Listening to Low Spark of High Heeled Boys with lightning every where is one of my favorite roo memories. I just don't think Willie would have been very good in this atmosphere. I am glad we get another shot at seeing a legend this year.
I grew up with willie. It has so much personal meaning for me. He was always my father's favorite artist (other then Patsy...what is the deal with 60 year old men and Patsy Cline....) and everytime I hear him it just takes me back to being a kid and camping with my father.

Just yesterday I dug out a bunch of my mom's willie lps and now really look forward to his set. Willie and Family Live would probably be a good place to start for the unfamiliar. It was for me. And I think he's one of those people who have more songs you are familiar with than you realize...
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."
"I want you to notice When I'm not around You're so fücking special I wish I was special But I'm a creep I'm a weirdo What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here" -Radiohead

Karma to that!! Can't Find My Way Home is the one I remember the most from that show. I'm surprised I remember anything from that night and kudos to everyone that stayed for the shows because it damned sure stormed like a beotch that night!!
It is already confirmed to be one of the best acts of the festival. Now only if Merle can get to the 'Roo and they do a sick version of Pancho and Lefty.
Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.
I won't say I'm exactly a fan of the man, but once he was confirmed before the lineup even leaked I got super-excited to see him. Saw him performing live on TV years ago and gained an actual appreciation for REAL country music. Not that mainstream garbage they have out there these days.

thats more or less how I felt going into his show last year and it turned out to be one of my favourite memories of Coachella. You should be in for a surprise
I used to DJ our parties in college and at about 4 am Id always put on "Turn out the lights, the parties over, you know that all good things must end..." I would always think it was hilarious when I was all quacked up.
I saw Willie and Bob Dylan in Nashville a few years back, and then I saw Willie again this year. He is a true showman. Also, I'm willing to put down cash money that he opens with "Whiskey River".

Was that during their tour of minor league baseball parks? I wanted to catch that in SAV, but couldn't make it. But I've seen both separetly since.
