Pearl Jam plays a lot of "smaller" venues.
By smaller I mean like 10,000 seats - often times much less.
You can still buy Pearl Jam tickets for $30. Again not sure what a TOOL ticket cost in - lets say - Cleveland - but I paid $30 to see Pearl Jam play there last year. Pearl Jam also gives thousands of the best tickets at each venue they play to thier fan club for something like $10 each. If they wanted they could sell the front row tickets for $500 like Metallica does - but they don't...
It would be nice to see them tour theaters around the country...but that hasn't happened since their early years...they've been playing arenas and ampitheaters for a long time now...the only small venue shows they have played in the last 15 years were either benefit shows, fanclub shows, or during the canadian tour in 05 where they played small cities that had no big arenas to play in
fan club tickets have generally been around $50 or so for the last few tours...I could pull out my ticket stubs but no way they are that cheap fanclub or otherwise
Well...
One of my buddies who is perhaps the biggest Pearl Jam fan alive and has been a member of the "Ten Club" for many years has told me Pearl Jam's fan club tickets work like this:
When the tour is announced - each fan club member can purchase 2 tickets to 2 different shows - which are guaranteed to be in the first 5 rows - weeks before they go on sale to the general public - for $10 plus whatever nominal fee the venue charges for will-call.
Also - you guys know Kanye West is playing on Thursday night at the WHAT STAGE right? - a lot of your posts sounded like you had no idea...

where did you hear about Kanye playing thursday at the What Stage? and will it be a late night performance? or is he just thursday nights headliner? (if so, kind of crushes hopes on Zeppelin cause if Zep is there, Jack would be thursday, Metal friday, and PJ saturday)

Those were the rules (somewhat) regarding tickets around 95/96, but they have changed. No one can get a ticket for $10 through the 10 Club now. I believe they are about the same price as any orderec through ticketmaster, it's just that 10 Club gets the better seats at the arena for their members. Tickets are always picked up at will call to avoid scalping.
I've been a 10 Club member for some time, and members are also no longer limited to how many shows they can get tickets too. If you are a member, you can go to as many show as you are able to order through their website (which often crashes when high demand tickets go on sale).

"The what stage is closed on thursday.. if i'm not mistaken as is the which stage.. tents only on thursday. "
Here is the link to Kanye West's website. His tour schedule has him preforming at Bonnaroo on Thursday the 12th:
Presumably an act like Kanye West would demand WHAT STAGE or WHICH STAGE at the very least.
It was kind of interesting to find this out considering that less than half, maybe a third of 'rooers show up before Friday - and he is billed as a headliner.
Obviosuly they have never opened WHAT or WHICH on Thursday before - but - 1st times for everything.
I was initally pissed off about Kanye being there - because I could care less about seeing him live - but now that he wont' be conflicting with other acts - so - who cares.

yeah, exactly
unlimited shows and usually a good percentage of the arena is reserved for the fan club...for example, the two boston shows in 06 had at least the first 40 rows on the floor reserved, as well as the first few sections on the side
Chris Rock can't be too cheap, so I imagine that's also where allot of the extra cost is coming from... It makes sense to me... this year truly does seem more expensive, due to there being allot of "big" acts, as opposed to there being a few "big" acts and a "huge" one, last year.
