the really funny thing is he's listed as playing on Friday...on the What Stage...he's the second biggest headliner of the day...which can mean only one thing...he's opening for Metallica!
Can't wait!
Ha.. All you non-Metallica fans are screwed! You're gonna be exposed to the mania of Metallica one way or another! LOL
maybe this is their response to all the negative metallica feedback...hmmmm touche bonnaroo touche...haha
I'm surprised how many people seemed to be disappointed at first, but became excited when it became known that this was a special performance on the main stage. I like Chris Rock ok, but that makes me more disappointed. I don't like the idea of any time that could be given to music on the main stages and tent are instead given to comedians. Rock is good, and of course he's too big for the comedy tent, but that doesn't make this ok. That's my take-- don't diminish our opportunity to see what we are really coming for: the MUSIC!
I'm willing to bet there will still be music going on on the which stage, the three main tents, the troo music lounge, the sonic stage, the jazz tent, the four guys blaring DMB out of their pickup in camp doctor zhivago, and the tripped out guy behind the port-o-john's singing "my dingaling" for three hours straight.
Besides, music is overrated. Didn't you read the article on pitchfork?

I didn't read the whole thread....or really any of it (12th beer leave me alone)....HE CAN'T BE IN THE COMEDY TENT....the line would reach Kentucky...the line for Lewis Black was huge and he plays 500 person comedy clubs....Chris Rock sells out the Garden....
I'm there regardless...and I promised myself no waiting in line for anything this year.
don't worry no waiting in line he's on the what stage

These are my thoughts as well. karma
If they're putting hiim up there in between acts, as like a warm up... I'd say it's a GREAT idea... but if he's an individual act on the What Stage, I more than likely won't see it.... I was just assuming it was to fill the gap between preheadliner and headliner.
I can understand that people would like to see bands added, but realistically, there's a certain number of bands that will be added and a certain number of comedians. They just happened to announce a comedian first. I wouldn't worry people, the bands are coming. On top of that, the only equipment a comedian needs is a microphone, so Rock could hit the stage much quicker than a band and get off much quicker, so he really isn't taking that much time away from the What Stage bands.
Yeah, but Chris Rock doesn't "fill gaps." He's major news. I'm really liking this. It sounds like it's going to be the closest we get to a huge movie screen on the What Stage!

this could be the largest crowd for a comedian ever, that is definitly cool.
ps. Moe how have you lost karma today? all these damn Moe haters.
Hey I'm pretty hammered...so I reserve the right to change my mind....but...this is the best news I've heard all day (it is after midnight right? new day, new news )

From Comedy Central (2004):
TOP 10 COMEDIANS OF U.S. AUDIENCES
1 Richard Pryor 2 George Carlin 3 Lenny Bruce 4 Woody Allen 5 Chris Rock 6 Steve Martin 7 Rodney Dangerfield 8 Bill Cosby 9 Roseanne Barr 10 Eddie Murphy
1 Richard Pryor 2 George Carlin 3 Lenny Bruce 4 Woody Allen 5 Chris Rock 6 Steve Martin 7 Rodney Dangerfield 8 Bill Cosby 9 Roseanne Barr 10 Eddie Murphy
That seems like one of those lists where they feel the need to put in somebody "new" in order to seem relevant. I like Chris Rock a lot, but even Bring the Pain has nothing on Bill Cosby's Himself or Eddie Murphy's Raw or Delirious.
1 Richard Pryor 2 George Carlin 3 Lenny Bruce 4 Woody Allen 5 Chris Rock 6 Steve Martin 7 Rodney Dangerfield 8 Bill Cosby 9 Roseanne Barr 10 Eddie Murphy
Just out of curiosity, how did Bill Hicks rank in this?
Honestly...I'm a Dallas Mavericks fan (I know, my life sucks), and today went from being awesome to sucking total and complete ass. And then I got this news, and I'm happy again...

With as "special" as they are making it seem on the site, I can imagine his 1 hour time slot is just meant to entertain the dedicated few for that night's headliner while they set up the stage.
I can't say definitely, but I don't really ever see myself skipping music for comedy. Even if I've never heard of any of the bands playing during Rock's time slot I will likely go check them out first. If they disappoint, I could very well end up at Chris Rock.
But hey... if there's no music against him I might as well check it out, right? I just can't imagine it being the case... Who knows, until the schedule comes out.
