Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I have not found a link to the article online but it basically states that there are 15 fests across the US and the organizers are having a hard time to book acts.
It also says that Bonnaroo, Cochella and Lollapalooza are the 3 biggest and they drew 434,000 last summer.
It also says Bonnaroo is broading its jam-band beginnings and booking acts like Metalica PJ amd Kanye.
Also it states the Vineland festival in New Jersey has been postponed because the Cochella promoters announced that the All Points West was the same weekend.
The article talks about how major acts don’t like to book fests more than 3 months before the show.
As for Bonnaroo, Jonathan Myers of Superfly says finding headliners is an “ongoing process”
Not much more was said. Perhaps the “ongoing process” quote is something that should be in the Led Zeppelin thread.
I have the issue of Rolling Stone and I took the "ongoing process" quote to mean that they're constantly working to build relationships for future headliners. Meaning that they have to do some legwork now to land headliners for 2009, 2010, etc.

I remember an interview with Jonathan Myers in 2006 where he said they were trying to book Radiohead from 2002 on and it took 4 years to put it together.

its kinda weird how it takes so long....
a) wouldn't a band want to play 'roo..maybe my logic is off or is just not as appealing?
b) I wonder if it is an "on-going process," then they have plenty of time for planning...and why would they share a headliner with coachella?
it doesn't make sense to me... I think the superfly/ac has plenty of cash, connections and time to have anyone headline they want..its not like there forced to settle on someone.

I don't think that's quite the case. For all their money, there's no Zeppelin, and I don't think that's Superfly's choosing. Plus I can't imagine anyone there was like, "OMG! Let's get JACK JOHNSON to headline!! That would be huuuuuuge!!!" If he does end up headlining, that sounds a clear case of "forced to settle on" to me.

^^^ I'm confused why people think Jack Johnson on Sunday isn't good. He's a house hold name. Really chill vibe. And he makes good music. I don't get it...

i think most people do not believe that his live show is good enough to deserve that slot.

I completely disagree about him being a household name. Sure he's a big performer, and I actually have no problem with him playing last because then i can split early, hopefully but jack johnson has what...one or two singles that people know? He is nowhere near in the vein of a pearl jam, a metallica, or a kanye west.

EXACTLY, someone finally said it. Superfly "settled for" him. Like Coachella did with almost all of their lineup.
I've heard the name Jack Johnson for many years, but still, could not name a single song of his or an album if you made me.
I heard about Jack Johnson because his music video always played before movies I would see at the theater. It was some video with spaghetti on the wall and it ran in reverse or something.
They would also play John Butler Trio's Zebra. LOVE JOHN BUTLER TRIO!
In the Rolling Stone issue with Radiohead on the cover, there's a picture of Thom Yorke at Bonnaroo and the caption says "Thom at Bonnaroo, one of his all-time favorite gigs". I thought that was cool.
