Wow, the Metallica hate held out all the way until the first reply. Did you not notice that he said "Great Drummers of Bonnaroo 08", not "Another Thread to state you are unhappy with Metallica being at Bonnaroo 08". Shocking. On a positive note, I would like to add Kris from Umphrey's McGee. Very, very good drummer.
Wow, that was completely uncalled for guy. I actually dig Metallica. Not especially happy about them as a Roo-headliner, but think they're overall a good band and one I'm looking forward to finally seeing live. I just think that Lars is a hugely overrated drummer and by far the weak link of the band.
But did you honestly think it was called for to post a negative in a thread asking for GREAT Drummers? I can agree with you that Lars is highly overated, but I am excited to see Metallica again. I wasnt' stating that YOU specifically state all the Metallica comments, that came out wrong. It shouldn't have been directed at you, I just get tired of all the Metallica hate around here. It kinda goes against the Bonnaroo vibe with all the negativism. But I guess that is the purpose of message boards, for opinions. My apologies. Accept my karma.

That's cool. I accept your apology and apologize in turn for overreacting to your statement. More than anything, my original post was done in kind of a joking spirit, but I was in a bad mood when I read your response...I don't know. My original post really was meant as about 50% making fun of all the Metallica hate and 50% serious. But by the time your response came I'd forgotten about the 50% making fun.
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.
Since The Mars Volta WILL be added, I'll go ahead and say Thomas Pridgen. 24 years old and pounds the skins like he has a John Bonham for each arm.
i am listening to a show from Rams Head 1-18-08... and man, can that guy beat the hell out of his skins.... i've never heard anyone play harder for THAT long before. He just doesn't quit....

Does anyone know who drums for the Trucks/Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival? If it's Yonrico Scott, who plays with the Derek Trucks Band, he definitely belongs on the list. [edit: it's not. it's Derek's brother, who is probably another f-ing prodigy, but I'm not familiar with him]
So does John Molo, who plays with Phil Lesh (and Keller Williams and others).

death cab drummer jason mcgerr is awesome, he knows his stuff, its nothing crazy but he knows how to incorporate complex rhythms together to make some cool stuff. check it out
Karma for that, as a drummer and classes i did take,as far as lesson's I learned "New Year" ,and thats when i realized how great he is. I cant wait to hear the drummer of My morning Jacket,Patrick Hallahan's Gretsch Rock kit man it sounds good and I have bought Gretsch since I have seen them,in studio on their site recording Z.
matt cameron is one of the most under rated drummers of all time....listen to any and all Soundgarden .....he drums and sings on most songs....and had creative input.....he was also a major force in Temple of the Dog...now Pearl Jam....way ahead of the curve....if you have never heard the original version of Jesus Christ Pose....I will be happy to hook you up...it's incredible...
Wow. I didn't know it was Bozzio playing with them. He is a god. He uses like 96 different cymbals. More cymbals than anyone else mentioned in this thread.

Why limit this to only human artists? I submit the "Casio DG-20 from a pawn shop in the future". Any objections? I didn't think so. This really would have worked better when the Conchords were there but that's ok too.

I don't think he has been playing this tour, but he has before, so its possible he plays at Roo. Joe Travers, their regular drummer, is no slouch himself though. This thread reminded me of how sick Matt Abt's Moby weiner was last year, filthy! Kris is great too, you can pretty much mention any member of Umphrey's when you're talking about the best of an instrument.

Terry Bozzio is not human. Zappa wrote the Black Page with him in mind and having seen it it print, I've concluded that no mere mortal could perform it.
i've got to also throw props out to Pat Hallahan... if you're unfamiliar w/ him... why don't you search youtube for MMJ's Conan performance of One Big Holiday. sick.
the whigs haven't been added (yet) but Julian Dorio is just a fabulous FABULOUS drummer. he was the best of the best last year, along with Glenn Kotche and Nathan Followill.
and, while I've only seen Keltner twice, once w/ Neil and Friends & Family, once w/ T-Bone last year, I don't get all the praise for him. i find his drumming uninspiring.
