Anyone else excited for these bands? I know that pitchfork is hyping both beyond belief, but I'm actually really looking forwards to Black Kids (LOVE their EP). I actually haven't heard Vampire Weekend yet....

I have a link that will let me DL the Black Kids EP for free, but I just haven't gotten around to getting it yet. I like the four songs that I have heard from Vampire Weekend enough to warrant buying the album. It should be arriving in the next few days. Right now, VW is on my tentative Bonnaroo agenda.
I like Black kids, although I wish their ep wasn't so lo-fi. I've only heard one Vampire Weekend song (Bryn), but I like it a lot. If their are no conflicts with their sets, I'll probably check both out.
I have that black kids link too. I haven't gotten it yet either, but I will when I get home. I'll post it here when I have a chance. I'm VERY VERY excited for vampire weekend. their album is great, really.
Just saw VW in Cinci and the show was underwhelming, but mainly because of the venue and crowd. I think they will be much better at Roo in the summer atmosphere and with a crowd that is much more willing to dance (the Cincinnati crowds can be a bit drab sometimes, particularly at hipster-friendly shows/venues). They had good energy on stage, though at times it seemed a bit forced. I think with better sound in a Bonnaroo tent, a more lively crowd, and 4 more months of touring under their belts (they're only 23! and have only been a band for a year and half or so), we'll see a good show from the boys.

From listening to their album an unreasonable amount I can definitely see Vampire Weekend being an awesome energetic happy bouncing dancing summer act. I'm really excited about them :]
I was at VW Vday show. Alot of the crowd left about half way in to the set. I liked them, my gf hated them live, and shes the one who turned me on to VW.

I've seen several different videos of VW's live performances and they've all been pretty boring. Not a lot of movement or emotion coming from the band. That won't stop me from seeing them if they don't conflict with anyone.

VW is one of the bands that I am trying to contact so I can have an interview at Roo. Hopefully they come through and, if so, one of my questions will definitely deal with how comfortable they are getting with playing live shows.

I know nothing about Black Kids (maybe I'll have to check them out?) but I am SO SO SO SO excited for Vampire Weekend! I've only heard a handful of their songs (like 4 or something) but I really love them and can't wait to see them at Roo.
I don't know a thing about Black Kids, but I have been listening to Vampire Weekend for like, the last two weeks. I'm not sure what kind of a live show they would put on, but their album is such an easy listen. For those of you who are looking for a couple songs to get your feet wet, my favorite is M79, followed by Oxford Comma. My buddy is partial to Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa.
Again I'm not sure if I'm gonna go see them, but I love their album.

not just pitchfork but the entire blogosphere [yeah i just used that term] was obsessing over vw. somehow, they have actually put out a few good tunes, even with all the hype, too. i'm not sure how their record sales have been as of yet, but i do know that mtv was hyping them so that means that someone's really made it to the front lines...
i've seen some videos of instore performances and they look ok, but you can't tell much from 6 feet of space for 5 folks in a record store... personally i've found their songs somewhat hard to get into, but once it gets in my head i can't get it out...we'll see how the live show goes. i'm really hoping they do live up to the hype or atleast have enough steam to not be played out come june...

i'm looking forward to both. they aren't NEED to sees, because as up-and-coming bands I'm sure i'll be able to see them at some point either way, but i definitely think they'll be better at bonnaroo.
well, you ask me why i'm drunk all the time it levels my head and eases my mind i just walk along and stroll and sing i see better days and i do better things
Vampire Weekend sounds like The Strokes visiting a Wes Anderson movie. I'm not a huge fan, personally. I view them as this year's Peter, Bjorn & John.
As for Black Kids, it's hard to say anything about a band that's only released an EP. What I've heard isn't so hot. It's by no means bad, it just seems like Pitchfork might be stretching a bit to hype these guys up before they actually release anything.
I don't know. I'm guessing both these acts play early sets. I will probably be at neither. They're more SXSW than Bonnaroo at this point to me...

Just a coupla things if I could disagree(politely)... For me, Vampire Weekend brings elements of Devo, Madness and English Beat. No doubt the Strokes took some influence from these groups as well... VW also has a very danceable afrobeat influence that would translate well to Roo.
I thought PB&J made a brilliant album in Writer's Block, which inspired me to check out Falling Out from 05 which is also solid.
Without a North American record label, The Black Kids have played shows in support of Futureheads, Kate Nash and Simian Mobile Disco on the strength of, what I hear, is a fun/danceable show.
I am looking forward to each show, but both bands seem to be finding their strides as performers.

karma for that one. you totally put your finger on it...it's still pretty good music, just gets so much hype and people get tired of it, due to being played out [atleast that's what i did with pbj last spring/summer].

If you've heard four of their songs and love them, you will definitely love the entire album. Every song is good. Check it out!
