Do bands sound check the stage before playing? I imagine it would be hard to do as there are always acts rotating through...but just curious. If they do, can people listen in on the check? Sometimes it fun to get a glimpse of the type of set a band will be playing.
As is probably able to be assumed- I'm a first time Bonnaroo'er

Depends on how you define "soundcheck" . . . I mean every band has to go through a soundcheck to make sure everything sounds good, levels are correct etc. But this is generally done by roadies and such, not the band themselves. However, I've heard some rehearsal sound checks from the main stage on Thursday and in the early morning on some days. Always just a few songs, nothing all the way through . . . I distinctly remember waking up one morning and hearing Beck checking his levels-that was cool.

Yea, in '06 I was blessed with the campsite of a lifetime. I could hear the main stage clearly from my tent, I watched all of Phil and Friends from the roof of my car. I think I also heard moe. getting in tune on Sunday morning.

sometime around sunrise, although I got there almost the exact same time the next year and the line was already stacked up. I still got a good spot, but not as great. Unfortunately, where I camped in '06 has since become expanded VIP area, so I won't ever be camping that close again. (btw, I'm still mad about this appropriation of proletariat lands by the aristocracy.)
last year, before mute math, the roadies were doing they're sound check and one of them was testing the mic..."check one-two, check one-two"...the crowd proceeded to chant..."CHECK ONE TWO, CHECK ONE TWO!" haha

even though this is off topic...is it typically better to get to bonnaroo early on thursday or does it make little difference when all is said and done?
