do yourself a favor and check these guys out! my rm and i happened to catch them on letterman and were hooked from the first 5 seconds! i bought their new album 2 weeks ago and have had to burn it over 10 times for friends who loved it. such a great roo addition.... totally fits the vibe -L
Yes, yes, yes, yes and YES. I picked up their LP last week and it's been stuck on my record player since. They're one of those bands that in 5 years you're going to wish you saw when they were less known.
well, I bet you thousands of dollars that most people who are in love with vampire weekend dont even know paul simon has solo albums at all. i was just trying to let some know about a great album they might otherwise have never known about.
understandable and not to demean the starters of this thread or anyone who likes em, cuz i love em. but it also gets old all the people fluffing this band like they are these amazing pioneers of music and no one has made songs like this before
This man came up to me just the other day, asked me I'd been born again. I told him, "I didn't think I had." That I had been rejected. But I think, Hell's got all the good bands anyway. And Bonnaroo.

These guys are on the cover of Spin this month, I had never heard of them before I saw it.
By the way, is everyone else still getting Spin in the mail? I'm guessing our free year subscription for buying roo tickets last year is about to run out.
I don't think many people have called Vampire Weekend music pioneers. They're good, but I think most people recognize they aren't doing anything extraordinarily new or revolutionary.
yes I recognize they are extraordinarily rocking my socks off! I am going to see them next week! I hope they are every bit as good live. The CD friggin rocks... it is starting the revolution in my CD player.

I'm going home in a couple weeks for spring break, so I hope there is an issue waiting

I never redeemed my free subscription to Spin because I grew tired of the crap they print almost two years ago and never wanted anything to do with them again. I'll stick with Rolling Stone, Relix, and Stopsmiling.
Anyway, VW was the first band that I started to check out from the line-up after someone on another message board recommended them to me. I bought their album a week ago and it has been in heavy rotation in my CD players. Definitely digging the whole thing and can't wait to see them this summer!
oh i forgot to mention before that they are awesome live!, i saw em at bowery in the end of jan and it was really really good, kinda short but they were so tight and on point it was very nice
I heard these guys on Sirius yesterday, and was surprised about their style of music. I have listened to more tracks and these are one of the guys that I will have to schedule.
Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.
Prose version: We're traveling home tomorrow after an eventful UK tour. We were very excited to start our North American tour on 3/6, but something has come up.
We have been invited to play on next Saturday's (3/8) SNL, and were honored to accept! Unfortunately, this means we'll have to postpone our appearances in Orlando and St. Augustine and cancel our set at the Langerado festival. The Walkmen will still be playing on those dates. We are looking forward to meeting up with them in Atlanta and continuing our regularly scheduled tour. We will be back in Orlando and St. Augustine on June 7 and 8.
This all happened very quickly, so there will be more information in the coming days.
Also, many of you may have read that I was involved in a hit and run accident last night in London. It's surreal that that currently qualifies as a "news" item, but I would sincerely like to thank everyone who lent me their support and good vibes. I feel incredibly lucky to have sustained only minor injuries, and would also like to thank the Royal London Hospital (Dr. Lewinsohn!) for taking care of me. I'm currently recuperating with a steady diet of Nando's chicken and Tom Petty, who, appropriately, pointed out that even walls fall down.
Really excited for next week and the tour to come. See you out there!
Oh, well -- I certainly don't blame them at all. A young band would be out of their mind to pass on a SNL appearance. Hell, I know Wilco had to axe a date or two for their appearance tonight.

damn i was REALLY looking foward to their langerado set. i guess i cant blame them for wanting to be on national tv...but they cant reschedule a festival date. so that really kinda sucks considering i just missed them when they came to ny
