I don't see Robert Randolph getting a late night spot, especially since he is not with the family band. The Revival is a bit more of a gospel type sound to it. Feels more right to me to be during the day. Just my two cents
Actually, his MySpace message states that the Family Band will be playing with him, along with a number of special guests. They are playing RRFB material (including new songs!) in addition to some Gospel standards. Also, I've been probing a member of his Management team for info, and all I've heard from him is "Trust me, it's going to be epic."
So, considering RR played late night in 2004, and that the show is supposed to be "epic" (which generally implies long), and in order to accommodate a lot of guests, I think it will be at night.
I am here to confirm that the late night '04 show from Randolph was indeed epic.
there are only a few scenarios I see with Umphreys and Disco. One they repeat the latenight in 06 and have a block schedule in the same tent. Or they make them both pre headliners on different days in a tent. So before Pearl Jam you get Umphreys in a pre-headliner tent on saturday like Ween was last year with an extended set and before metallica on friday you have disco biscuits in a pre headliner tent. Otherwise I doubt that Umphreys will get a latenight and Disco won't or vice versa it just wouldnt make much sense to me in the scheduling realm of bonnaroo when they are both great for what they both do. Which is why they toured together.
Bisco confirmed on their website that they're playing latenight. They did not imply another DUMB show.
perhaps this is listed somewhere else, but how long are the average daytime sets?
It depends on what time during the day. When shows start around noon, they're only about an hour long. Later on, around 4, the shows last between and hour and a half to two hours. The pre-headliners (starting between 6:30 and 7:00) get just under two hours.

It will be TREASON if they schedule MMJ and Sigur Ros on the same late night. TREASON I say because I couldn't think of a completely worse conflict then those two epic shows and they will be Epic so if MMJ is Friday like they were listed on Pollstar, and Sigur Ros is on saturday listed on their website I will be in bliss because I will sacrifice Phil n Friends and any other conflicts to see Sigur Ros but I will be outright violent leading up to the show time if MMJ and Sigur Ros are scheduled during the same time slot
karma, for not only being like minded, but showing decent evidence to not worry about this. these two shows are making my roo and i need both of them in totality.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't have UM conflict with MMJ late night the way it did in '06, UM is my band that i can't miss but I love MMJ and it was tough to miss them in '06. Biscuits have confirmed they're late night, maybe they'll play extra-late like 2-5am after a dj, or with a dj during a setbreak for them. I think UM can handle the preheadliner 2 hr. slot.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
From what I am understanding and reading everywhere,Thursday this year is going to be as full as a Friday or Saterday. With the exception of MAYBE a few hours late start. But there still listing 7:00 am Thursday morning for gates into Bonnaroo to be open and not before. If this is the case,One has to ask, just how long does 80K people take to get in,tents set up and so on? And by the same hand, those people driving all night to get there Thursday morning, well by the time they get in,and set up,BAM! Roo is already rocking full throttle! I'm not even going to ask, when will they get to sleep,or who there gonna miss out on seeing. So here is my idea to remedy this.First off, lets not cut Thursday back by any means, let them add all they want.Instead,Lets hold a patition post on the main page here for them to open the campgrounds up 7:00 am WENDSDAY morning.Give us a day to get in,set up,and a night to chill out and get to know thy neighbors.

There hasn't really been anything coming from bonnaroo saying that thursday is going to be any more than past years, except for people on this board speculating, which is the same that they were doing last year. Last year there were several bands that were listing on their own websites the thursday date as the tour date but that ended up just being a reference to the first day of the weekend. It will be more than a few hours later start the the rest of the days, more like a 7 or 8 oclock start as opposed to noon the rest of the weekend, there's just too many people still getting in to the site, hell people are still pulling in on friday morning.
Well since Kanye is doing a glow in the DARK show one would be able to assume that it would be in the Dark so you can chalk him up for a late night set, and since his show is suppose to be so big I also expect him to be on a stag and not in a tent like many of you expect because he is hip hop (what kind of lame reason is that?).
I also think the Disco Biscuits will be late night because of all the good things ive heard about there last performance late night. If RR is doing a gospel like many are saying it only makes sense to either be early sunday morning (late saturday night) or Sunday during the day. I could see Jack Johnson playing as the sun goes down, he just has a chill sound and Id like to think watching the sunset while listening to Jack Johnson would be both beautiful and peacful and would really start off a great night of music with a great tone. Wouldnt you think Metallica is going to play at night too? I dont know I cant get over how many people I want to see which is a good thing because I know that late night will not dissapoint because if your doing late night your going to do it good due to the amount of bands that could cammand a late night set. Chris Rock should do a Thursday night set to begin the night and pretty much begin the party. I have no sources on any of this but im just trying to think logically and what would make sense in my head.

I'm not looking forward to some of the night time conflicts I will surely be facing! I prefer full sets so I will have to dig deep into my soul and search for the answers to these tough questions Bonnaroo forces me to answer

This year's late nights shouldn't be much of a problem for me. I have no interest in Phil Lesh or MMJ, so that should free up my schedule considerably. Add to that that I'll probably skip any hip-hop or electronica tents, and I'll have 1 maybe two choices for late night (not counting cafe and jazz tent acts, which may very well be where I'll wind up).
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

Good call on Chris Rock for Thursday scalabrine. It would be perfect timing...because it would ease everyone into the fest, and help ease conflicts later on in the weekend. It would also work logistically because a comedian on the main stage wouldn't really require much set up as the musical acts whom need things such as lighting, spec. effects, intument set up etc. I would definitely be all for it. That would put my Thursday at C.Rock>Dark Star so far which is pretty awesome for a Thursday

I am thinking Chris Rock would be really good right before a headliner because of the no set up required for him. He could go on while they were setting up Metallica's stuff. It would make the wait time go much faster.
That's how I see it^. Chris Rock is either gonna be before a headliner, most likely PJ or Metallica, or maybe even before Kanye while they're getting all the sets set up.
