I'm listening to The Greatest, Cat Power's new cd. Wow, what a great album and she has a very cool voice - reminds me a little of Mazzy Star. Excellent songwriting too.

So my question is, has anyone seen her live show?
I just saw her a couple of weeks ago. I thought the show was really solid. She interacted with the crowd. Seemed like she was having a good time and once they turned up her mic she sounded great.
She's got a very quirky and hot stage prescence. So if quirky does it for you I say go.
My one complaint was that it was an awfully short set with no encore at a sold out show. But encores dont really get to happen at fests.
Oh yeah and I was standing next to annoying people that didnt know what the music was like and complained the whole time. that wasnt too fun either.
2nd Edit: OH and Jukebox is the newest CD most of her performance material is coming off of that. Its covers but some good stuff.
I saw her at Roo 06 having never heard of her before that. While it wasn't the most exciting show - it was really good and kept my attention. I enjoyed it!

Actually, Jukebox is her newest album. It was released on January 22, 2008. I suggest you pick this up as there will be a good portion of songs played live.
Also, I definitely plan on seeing Cat Power, she's simply amazing! A nice mid-afternoon set similar to Regina Spektor would be lovely.
Cat Power has disappointed me live. I didn't think much of her '06 Roo performance (I left that early - so maybe it got better). Then I saw her at Echo Project back in October and was let down again. Almost her entire set consisted of songs from Jukebox. So, if you like her covers, then you're golden. Personally I'd prefer to hear "Moon Pix" and "You Are Free" era Cat Power with a bit of "The Greatest" thrown in.

cat power live is always unpredictable. she used to have huge stage fright. and would actually end shows early without an explanation. shes very self conscious. its kinda weird. i saw her a long time ago, can't even remember what year, i was young though, and the whole show just seemed a mess. songs would blend together or she'd just stop in the middle of a song.
i saw her about a year ago? maybe a little longer and i thought it was amazing. she really stepped it up.
if i had to recommend my favorite album, i would say moon pix.

She used to have the rep for having a pretty awful live show (this being due to the fact that she had really awful stage fright) but I think she's turned a corner. I saw her at ACL in '06, and though she came out late, she put on one HELL of a show, especially for a festival. She was really dancing and shakin' it (full of mock boxer moves) and really working the crowd. I'm super stoked for her at Bonnaroo. She's incorporated a much bluesier sound over the last few albums, and there's always the chance that Eddie Vedder will join her.
I saw her in November in Austin. She was sick and having a really tough time hearing due to a busted eardrum. Apparently she is quite camera shy as security told us all we were allowed to take one photo only -- no flash -- and they enforced that rule.
She's quirky alright, but I'm hoping for a better show in June.

Yeah, same thing at Echo Project. You'd see someone whip out a camera and then here comes security dude to have a stern talkin' to with them. It was weird. I know she has had trouble with anxiety and whatnot and like was mentioned earlier she'd often breakdown in the middle of a show. At least she's gotten past that part of it.

I saw her at the 06 Roo and liked her a lot, so I got more into her music.
Then maybe a year ago I saw her live at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. It was a really small show and the acoustics were amazing. I had heard all those rumor about how she could be a mess on stage and didn't like people watching her, but I found her to be really personable. She joked around with the audience and even quoted Arrested Development (the tv show, not the band) a few times. It was pretty cool overall.

I've seen her twice. The first time was at a small place in Atlanta, the second was at the Echo Project in Atlanta. I loved the first show, but didn't really like the Echo project show. But I do love her music. For some oldies but goodies check this out: Cross Bones Style:
Lived in Bars
(I enjoy the Braves hat in this one. I'd prefer it was a Hawks hat, but still nice. Way to represent the A baby.)

I saw her whole show at Roo '06, which I thought was great. Then I saw her, with the Memphis Rhythm Band, like at Roo on 9/12/06 at the Variety Playhouse in ATL. That show would have been great too, if not for the constant feeling of deja vu. It seemed like the exact same show from Roo. Every "ad lib" seemed exactly the same as at Roo. It was kind of creepy. This probably had to do with her trying to deal with her insecuity and nervousness. I am really excited to have a chance to see her again this year, with a new album out. But I don't think I'll make a 400 mile round trip to see her again on the same tour again.
Its gonna take me alot to wanna see her again. I paid like $30 for one of the worst shows ever in Charlottesville a few years ago. She played a few songs and just wasn't having fun at all. Then mumbled something about the Klan was out to get her and walked off stage. That was it. I always love the records. But have a hard time swallowing seeing her.

Personally I think her shows are nothing to go home about. She doesn't even play her best material (early records like What Would The Community Think, Moon Pix, or even You are Free,) most of the set are covers and The Greatest, and while i did like the greatest I think its a shame those other songs have been put away.
