Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I know that this poster really wanted info on bands that will be at Roo this year, but I must say that the all time greatest stage presentation/lightshow has to go, hands down, to Daft Punk. If you've seen them over the past 2 years, you'll have to agree with me that the spectacle they put on outshines even the Flaming Lips!
I have just gotten into them and haven't had the chance to see them. However, that is quite a strong statement you made about being better than the Lips, so I hope to see Daft Punk soon.
honestly, it's not even a fair comparison. but I dont know if Daft Punk is touring anymore - I don't think they are.
Imagine every Daft Punk song you know, all mixed together, while the most amazing light show you've ever seen plays out in front of you. Oh, and *everyone* is dancing.
I'd hate to be them - I mean, how can you top the pyramid tour???
I think as far as this year is concerned, Sigur Ros will be the best combo of music, lighting, and extras. Others to consider would be My Morning Jacket (who no doubt will put on an epic late night), Umphrey's/Bisco (if you really like the jam band thing), or Zappa Plays Zappa (if it's a late night).

Mothersky, MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT puts on one crazy show. NIN always has outstanding performances. However, Sigur Ros is quite visually stimulating, especially near the end of their set.

^Substance, that what was missing.
Substance = Musical talent. Good studio artists, but musically their live show just isn't up to snuff, especially at bonnaroo, and especially when they're up against Mule with a crapload of guests.
I have no regrets about staying for all of the FLips' show. One of the best shows all weekend IMHO, and I still got to catch the last hour of the Galactic hip-hop party afterwords. I honestly would have been bored to tears if I had been at Mule. But that's just me.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
I'm not saying that Flips' show was bad or anything, but for me and what I was wanting to hear and see, there was something right around the corner that compelled me even more. That's the beauty of Roo.
But, Flaming Lips showed me what everyone was talking about with their live show... something else, it surely was...

Based on past shows, here are my thoughts: --Pearl Jam puts on one HELL of a live show, and they always rise to the occasion. If the crowd gets into things early (which they will), then things really take off. Lots of sing-a-longs, and Ed lets the crowd take over the vocals on almost any song. Ed also has a habit of holding his guitar into the spotlight on extended jams to reflect the light back onto the crowd, and he will get down by the rail and run along and sing to the crowd. In terms of pure energy and crowd love, you can't beat PJ. (And they'll play for around 3 hours.) --In terms of flat out rocking and energy, My Morning Jacket is the best live act around. Long setlist, not as much banter, pure rock and roll. And for special occasions, they always have something wild up their sleeve. (I'm thinking they'll start out behind a screen like they do at bigger shows, crank up the intro song, and then drop the screen to the lights. It's an awesome sight.) --Drive-By Truckers always, always rock hard. Again, if the crowd gets into it, watch out. --Ghostland Observatory. I have never seen them put on a bad show. They sound much bigger than a two-man band. --Sigur Ros. Haven't seen them, but I think they're going to be top notch. --Kanye West is going to be great. Not my favorite act, but I'm thinking he'll go the extra mile for 'Roo. --I've heard the Avett Brothers put on a great, high-energy show. Am seeing them here in San Francisco in April, so I'll get a taste of what they're like then.

Listen, it all depends on what your into I've seen the NY philharmonic rock Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon with and wthout lazers. I've seen the late great Steve Ray Vaughn suck the meat stick due to the fact that he decided to do an all accoustic set by that I mean a snare drum and an accustic bass and him on an accustec sixstring half an hour was all I could take had to go. Pink Floyd rocked so well that my mom went to two shows on delicate sound of thounder with me Montreal, Orlando after that I sent her home thers only so much you can do with mom arround.

(Sorry dumb ass alert still trying to make two fingers get faster instead of learning to use whole hand yes girl friend can type flawlesly) Any way this year as we all know the politics will be with PJ the hard will be with $etalica all of us jambers will pop into and out of almost everything hopping to catch the very best part of the performances.
well if kanye's grammy performance is a prequel to anything, i think his set will be pretty awesome. i'm looking forward to seeing what shenanigans he comes up with.

unlike anyone else here, i've seen KISS several times. always a great visual show from them with heavy use of pyro and every kind of light trick you can imagine. the metal bands know how to bring the pyro! that leads to an interesting question... will Metallica use pyro at Roo? i don't think i've ever seen any pyro at Roo. so maybe its not allowed. i think it should be tho. at least on the what stage. as Beavis would say: FIRE!!!!
when i saw Metallica the first time in 1989 they had the stage show for "And Justice..." where there were statues and columns that fell during the show in a choreographed manner. it was a great use of props. i don't think i've seen any other band do that.
Iron Maiden deserves a mention for their great use several "Eddie's" in various forms. Dio had a metal dragon that shot lasers. for real. Rush also had a good light show. and of course TOOL always has good visuals. last year at Roo i was also impressed with the light show from STS9

Sigur Ros will be epic latenight. If you have not seen it yet, you need to check out their DVD Heima and watch their last performance on the first disc. If not here is a link on youtube. It has an awesome build and then goes nuts. Be patient when watching.
what the flips show was missing was a lead singer who could stay in key... sorry, but i was horribly underwhelmed by their actual music performance. would have been better to have the visual show and play the album tracks, which is sad. wayne let me down big time.

did anyone else get bored and leave the lips last year? Cause I went and saw mule and that was one of the best decisions I've made.
I did...the Lips were fun for a while, what with the lasers and all, but I ended up at Mule too. Which was a good choice, considering I got there just in time for John Paul Jones. Personally, I thought Tool's visuals were the best. Perhaps not the most bright and in-your-face, but they were earth-shattering and displayed that ability Tool has to integrate things really well with the overall sonic voyage taking place, so that you can't help but have a spiritual experience. This year I'm excited some Sigur Ros, I kind of feel like it will be along the same lines, although I doubt the ground will rumble as much...but that can be made up for at Mastodon.

2 comments about the lips live shows 1 they were so much better when they were sonically innovative i mean the used to hand out headphones and give the concert goers surround sound before they came up with this schtick they are doing now (the bubble with wayne in it walking on the crowd the confetti cannons) 2 i used to work at a club in the late 90s early 00s and i saw a flips show (amazing) until the sound guy said alot of what the perform is prerecorded
best live show visually tool or SCI but sigur ros is close (real soft light show) best live show musically phil and friends or medeski martin scofield and wood
TOOL has an amazing light show. I am going to see Radiohead in may and TMV in april (if the tabernacle is open by then), i have heard great things about both of those light shows.

I'd say Pearl Jam and MMJ are the two best live acts here. Not much in terms of trippy visuals, but who needs it when you have frontmen like Eddie Vedder and Jim James? Both bands just burst with energy.
